The world used to be a much darker place. It has changed, unrecognizable from the chaos that ran rampant a few millennia ago. The world was consumed with hatred, crime, and suffering, it was shared between all races in the world. Whether you were an elf, a dwarf, a troll or a goblin, chances were the darkness in your heart outweighed the light. This was especially true for the humans, whose evil deeds surmounted all else. Bringing war to the soil of others, as well as their own, taking another's essence or vitality for their own foolish reasons. The need to substantiate nothing more than their own gain. And from the hearts of evil men, a true malevolent one was born, in the form of the demonic king, Balore, whose only aim was to create what was capable of destruction.
Building an army of demons he laid siege to the land in an attempt to control it entirely, to be the one true ruler over everything, and for a short time, he was successful. But from the ashes of destruction and decay, rose a symbol of peace. From the hearts of those in the world that did not give into immorality, those who didn't turn wicked, The first being endowed with the crest of the planet, a tree shaped marking that grew out from the chest and down her arms, was born. This being became known as the Earth’s Spirit, a being that possesses the power to manipulate that which cannot be seen, the spirit realm and the spirits that reside within it. Although the reaches of the demonic king's power seemed limitless, the Earth's Spirit usurped Balore and brought the world into a time of prosperity and peace.

The Earth's Spirit created four keys used to seal Balore in his eternal tomb, Racht, Muun, Aga, and Achar. They later became known as the spiritual keys, whose power was known to none other than the Earth's Spirit. Before her time was up, she fully attuned to her abilities and communed with those who are not of this world, with the spirits who guide it. Before her death and passing into legend, Gwendolyn, the Earth's Spirit recorded that if a time where the great demon's power started to grow once more, the Earth's Spirit would rise once more to face him in battle and keep the world at peace. To those like elves who can live for hundreds of years, it seemed like a relatively short period of peace before the great warrior of the world was needed once more.
