Imperial Navy High Command Personal File Summary
Rayko Hauck, 1st rate Commander Imperial Navy. Missing in action, presumed deceased. Born on the 2nd April 2934 on Terra, 13th district, central Europe. Caucasian white male with germanic and scandinavian roots. Third son to Friedrich Hauck – also an imperial officer - and Runa Hauck.
He visited the imperial school but only archived average grades. Showed military qualities during the first inspection at age 13 and was drafted to the ‘Imperial Naval War Academy’ as a cadet. After basic training Hauck qualified for the advanced ship operations and tactics track, which he completed top of his class. His extracurricular activity included extensive hand to hand and weapons training as well as engineering classes.
Joining the Imperial Navy as an active soldier at the age of 21 his first assignment was as a weapon Ensing on board of the interdictor cruiser INS Ghost on which he took part in the third federation war. His promotion to Lieutenant followed and he saw the end of the war on board the Battleship INS Großer Tod serving as the third officer.
With his promotion to Major he acquired his first command. The INS Cobalt was a heavy gunship. With the Cobalt Hauck served in the first corp-imperial war. Hauck gained renown for leading the INS Cobalt far behind enemy liens, often without support, and disrupting supply lines as well as hitting weak targets. A trait most likely learned on board the interdictor INS Ghost.
His greatest deed during these times is considered to be the boarding of the cruiser Amplification. Hauck and the Cobalt saw action during the battle of Sleems where the Cobalt was destroyed. Hauck survived the destruction and served as interim Colonel and first officer on board the Battleship INS Kerberos after the former first officer was killed during the same battle.
After the war he was recalled to Terra for additional large ship command training. When the INS Gift – a new class of super frigates - left wharf in 2964 Hauck was chosen and promoted to 1st rate Commander, making him one of the youngest 1st rate Commander at the age of 30.

He choose the ships name himself as it is tradition. It is unclear wether Hauck intended to name the ship after the english word for present (gift) or the german words for poison and venom (gift) as he spoke both languages. It is unclear if the name of the INS Gift had a deeper meaning to him.
2965 he left on an expedition mission together with the Second Imperial Expedition Fleet with whom he vanished. He left behind a wive and two children.
Rayko Hauk was regarded as a calm and reserved commander who preferred the offensive. He wasn’t notable as a great tactician or thinker. He saw little value in excessive planing and preferred to go head on into the battle seizing the opportunities as they emerged. A style that allowed for great adaptability during action but was always a hindrance during larger fleet actions and often earned him the displeasure of his admirals when he decided to ignore orders in favor of abusing an opportunity.
It is reported that he showed almost excessive loyalty to his crew – even after they left his command – and ship but demanded the same of his subordinates. The same loyalty extended over to the empire as a form of honor and duty to the realm. Isolated reports showed displeasure with the recent happenings in the higher levels of the imperial government.
Routine medical checkups revealed the onset of psychical problems, probably as a consequence of events during action. The problems were categorized as not obstructive to his duty and he remained in active service. The lack of experienced officers after the recent years of war was probably an important factor in this decision.
