Part XX - Bonus Story #1

Against All Odds

On one of my many travels in my 3rd century of life I encountered another vampire, I thought this encounter to be impossible for I had planned to keep track of anyone who I had allowed to consume my blood. Upon drawing near them for the first time my symbiote sensed the presence of a subject hosting our own genetic resonance. This indicated that they had been infected by me, and by me directly. The resonance was pure; No other vampires had sired this host.

I had no choice but to locate this individual so I carefully stalked the presence until I had an opportunity to reveal myself. Before too long the presence began to approach a small settlement, to feed no doubt. I felt this was my best opportunity to confront the subject, so I made my move. I started by sprinting across the sprawling midnight farmlands, making a direct line for my target.

Upon encountering my mark I was astonished to see that it was a woman, and she had the appearance of Eve; The woman who had carried Lilith’s soul to this realm from the now long lost demonic pocket space. She seemed to spring back in preparation for an attack but something stopped her. Suddenly a very familiar sensation washed over me. My symbiote had dominated this poor woman’s will. I attempted to free her from his hold, but sensed an intense soul link between her symbiote and my own.

I attempted to peer into the nature of the energies shared between the two strange creatures but it was completely alien to me. So I did what I could to project a calming aura around Eve’s spirit to try to help her feel at ease.

Once the soul link between our vamp hearts came to a conclusion I lost control of myself and sank my teeth into Eve’s neck. When the strange bloodlust came to an end I began receiving updates from junior about what Eve had been up to over the years as he was able to assimilate the genetic memories stored within eggs in her blood. It seemed she lived into old age and passed away peacefully, but returned as a vampire. She resisted the nagging hunger for human blood and had been feeding on the blood of farm animals and spending many months, sometimes years at a time in a deep slumber, torpor. In this time she would communicate with her symbiote, learning and cultivating her latent abilities.

When it seemed apparent that she was not a threat and she had infected any others. I convinced Jr. to relinquish control of her body. My symbiote seemed more concerned with containing its offspring then I did at the time. Part of the reason Junior was able to dominate Eve so easily was because her symbiote had descended from him. Secondarily, she did not seem to try to resist.

I didn’t spend much time trying to figure out how this woman had become infected before deciding there were more ways of exchanging bodily fluids than simply drinking blood alone; Especially considering my first encounter with Lilith had also included Eve’s body. I apologised for our previous encounter and explained the symbiote had been inadvertently, or unwittingly to myself, using pheromones to attract females that I found attractive.

Eve was very understanding and somewhat sympathetic to my whole situation. She had a deep connection to me having inherited genetic memories from the time before infecting her. She even inherited memories from before I had been infected with vampirism myself.

Eve and I decided to keep in touch and made arrangements to meet from time to time. Eve originally wished to find a cure to her affliction but over the following decades she altered the very nature of her symbiote. She no longer craved the blood of her kin, but instead developed an impartial taste for animal marrow. Her symbiote described it as a slow burning fuel, much more suited for sleeping, or hibernation.

After many years, at one of our arranged meetings we came to the obvious realisation that she should be sleeping in my pocket dimension, so we found an entrance. We already had a dedicated saferoom for longterm sleeping (thanks to our dragonic patron(s)).
