Space has become a big business once more.
With the formation of the Earth Core United government, corporations have once again risen in the ranks within the hierarchy and claimed a stake in the, “New Frontier”. The Allied Mining Guild Of Earth managed to obtain full outer solar system rights from Earth Core United; They were to begin various operations on outlying prospects around and beyond the Oort Cloud.
With that authorization, corporations could now reap the benefits and financial means to expand their already increasing empires. The ECU kept a greater portion of all incoming profits from the AMGOE, the inner system dominated by their authority, and kept the corporations on a tight leash for nearly two centuries. But with this new agreement and legal contract, the many businesses could now flourish, and reap profit margins like never before.
Specifically, it made sure that various operations prospects (in system and/or around), fell under their jurisdiction, that included anything the ECU claimed in the Oort Cloud and beyond. Interstellar mining was now officially in its infancy, corporations could reap the benefits and financial means to expand their already increasing empires.
As part of the agreement, Earth Core United was entitled to a greater portion of all incoming profits from the AMGOE, this was to make sure it kept the corporations on a tight leash, and not repeat the financial chaos that led to the devastating wars, terrorism, and the collapse of human society.
Two centuries later, Earth has rebuilt itself with the formation of this new government and regulates the business conglomerates with an ever-watchful eye. Now that space exploration and mining prospects continue to flourish, the corporations are reaping profit margins like never before. There was unlimited potential as they sought new ventures. They ranged from, Biohazard waste moons, too deep space exploration survey missions, and even scientific research facilities.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
It began a new golden era in interstellar commerce. The Mining Guild boldly grouped and reclassified many of its departments, to tighten their holdings and ensuring organization of all the operation sectors. The diversity of those new elements, metals and water sources were now limitless. The evolution into specialized mining organizations was inevitable. The Allied Mining Guild comprised three distinct corporate entities, each one specializing in various operations of their specific trade.
Davenport Industries dealt with comet and ice extractions, known as, Ice Pickers. They collected, purified, and generated new sources of water for the ECU and their future colonies. A highly prized commodity that came with some controversy, as their brand of water was much more expensive than that made on Mars or Earth. But if you wanted the freshest water possible, theirs was the only alternative.
The Takshimi/Walker Corporation dealt with the mining gas, often labeled as Juicers (or Gassers), their refineries would extract the plasma and gas from Jovian worlds and nebulas. Earth’s increasing need for future propulsion and energy made this company a must have if they were to continue exploring and colonizing other worlds. The off-shoot subsidiary, AirSurge Incorporated, handled oxygen harvesting, processing and distribution to all Earth Core United spaceships, enclosed colonies, orbital stations, and facilities.
And then, there was the Aeon/Thornbolt Corporation. They were the asteroid miners––refining plentiful ores, processing nutrient rich soil, and any carbon deposits. Independent contracts and prospecting rights were given to the mining vessel operators. Aeon/Thornbolt offered higher wages, hazard pay and benefits galore. They were considered the backbone of the AMGOE. The corporation was the first to venture out into space, bringing non-stop precious metals and rare ore that boosted the solar system’s economy.
By outsourcing jobs to independent contractors, a competitive atmosphere was created where every discovery could lead to a big payout, and the entire team could retire early. Some in the guild mockingly called them ‘dirt diggers’, they (however) preferred to call themselves–Space Rockers.
