Movement and defence were Leon’s biggest weaknesses. If Luna had landed one hit, Leon would’ve lost the fight, even though he might’ve won without her touching him.
Leon paid for the items and sold his old gear for only 20 copper. It was pretty beat up. Slipping on the new equipment, he felt a surge of confidence as he checked his character sheet for the first time in a while.

Leon was glad with the upgrades to his equipment. With these, I’m not just a glass cannon anymore. I can actually defend myself.
Leon suddenly remembered he had got a title from bonding with Beans. It’s a significant effect! It thrilled him. +1 stat point per level would help immensely
All of his equipment was green or above. He still had 70 copper coins and some healing items left. Including the Ring of Shadows. It was all he had left. Time to finish up my business here. Leon moved through town.
It was another hour later and Jack was back at his house; he had just come back from a meeting with the high-ranking gang members. “Hm?” He opened the door only to find a thick folded piece of paper there.
Jack didn’t pick it up yet as he went up first to see if the children were fine, which they were. After looking around and not finding anything out of place, he picked up the piece of paper.
Isn’t this? He opened it and noticed it was the map he had given the kid. Another piece of paper also fell out. He picked it up and noticed it was a letter.
“Dear Mr Jack, I’ll be leaving the village today to explore the world. Thank you and Mr Moe for everything. Please give the map to another ‘kid down on their luck’ like you did for me. Kind regards, Tempest. PS: I’ve added some notes to the map.”
Jack couldn’t help but smile at the letter. “This kid, I never asked for his name, did I?” In just two days, Leon had gone from a kid who couldn’t even hold a dagger correctly to an apprentice magician.
Upon closer inspection of the map, Jack noticed some small notes scribbled on the back. They were notes about the nearby monsters. How they attacked to what skills the Elites had. He also noticed a massive crossed-out section where he had written the strongest monster in the forest.
“Well, I’ll be, but if you think this is goodbye, then think again.” Jack said, as he knew this wouldn’t be the last time he would see Leon. At the same time as Jack read his letter, Alvin found another letter in the Wizard’s tower. It was a little different from the one he sent Jack.
Alvin stroked his beard while reading the letter. “Ho ho ho, the kid’s already got a familiar? Perhaps I should start teaching people?” Teaching fresh blood recently has shown him it was quite fun.
Meanwhile, Leon was completely unaware his actions set forth changes to the mainland that he would only see once he was there. For now, he left the village again, as he wanted to do one last thing.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
Leon walked back to Beans’s cave as it was the most secluded spot and he cast an Arcane Missile at one tree. [Arcane Missile Spell Completion 78%, Tutorial bonus 5%, 92% of the skill’s power displayed. Mastery +2.]
He read the message and focused on the feeling of the spell. More importantly, he felt for the ‘invisible hand’ that guided him. It was a training tool that was only there during the tutorial. Once he moved to the mainland, it would be gone.
Leon remembered the feeling and got ready for another cast. After 5 casts, his completion rate hit 80%. He was slowly improving. He wanted to see how far this invisible hand could go.
Leon spent dozens of casts practising his spell and muscle memory, and eventually, he hit a peak. [Arcane Missile Spell Completion 85%, Tutorial bonus +5%, 100% of the skill’s power displayed. Mastery +3.]
Finally, but this is not the end, is it? He could still feel the hand guiding him as he kept going. Slowly the tutorial bonus was going down, but his Spell completion stayed at 85%. Leon realised he was becoming less reliant on the guide.
He fired a lot of Arcane Missiles as a new message popped up [Arcane Missile spell mastery reached 100. Upgrading spell.] Leon looked with curiosity at the newly upgraded spell.
Arcane Missile: Active Spell. Requirement: 20 Intelligence. Condense a mass of mana into a missile to fire at the opponent for an additional 25% more damage. Cost 15 mana. Cooldown 2 seconds. Skill Level: 2 (Mastery 0/200)
The cost has gone up, and the damage is no longer a flat number, plus the cooldown went down. In return, the mastery requirement has gone up. Leon quickly noted all the changes and nodded. Overall, it was a massive upgrade in terms of DPS.
He gave a glance at the stab skill. I doubt I’m ever going to use it again. Hopefully, I’ll come across that item in the future. Leon remembered a specific item shown in the novel that could help him with the stab skill.
Leon kept practising until the spell was completely skill-based. It didn’t take long as the newly upgraded spell handled much better than the previous spell. Was the first level something Alvin made for practice? And this was the true first level? Leon guessed why the spell felt easier to handle now.
He could ask the man, but Leon had already delivered the letter, and going back now would only be awkward. With a sigh, Leon pushed the thoughts out of his head. He looked at the still-sleeping beans on his shoulders.
“Time to make the jump Beans, sorry but you’ve got to go to the familiar space for a moment,” Leon said to Beans, who stirred from his sleep and disappeared from his shoulders.
Leon opened his menu and selected the ‘Go to mainland’ button. That button wouldn’t be available if he hadn’t done the requirements.
He could see his body turning opaque, but he felt nothing, which he was thankful for. Getting transported while his sensory issues were going haywire was not something Leon wanted to experience.
Soon, his vision changed from the cave to a bustling street. The village earlier couldn’t even compare to how busy this was. As a result, rising anxiety immediately assaulted Leon. I take it back. This is awful. Leon grumbled internally.
He got a ton of messages, but checked on them in a quieter place. He looked around a little frantically as he tried to slip through the heavy crowd. Leon probably bumped into at least 3 people as he finally reached a less crowded space in an alleyway.
Leon gave a sigh of relief. Phew, it felt like I was packed in a can of sardines. He looked back and noticed the crowd seemed to leave the centre of the road empty, making way for something. Getting curious, he stayed to look for a moment.
Suddenly, he heard a carriage being drawn with horses in the front. The crowd got very rowdy as the carriage approached. “Can you see him?” “I wonder what he looks like?” “He’s got to be handsome. His siblings were also amazing looking!”
They seem to talk about someone, a prince? Leon could notice faint whispers of the name ‘Third Prince’ that should be approaching. Soon enough, the carriage came in plain sight, with it being drawn by two massive horses.
Those are no normal horses. Leon didn’t dare to assess them. Assess would alert powerful creatures and he didn’t want to cause a mess now. “Look! There he is!” A voice sounded, catching Leon’s attention.
Leon’s eyes narrowed as he spotted the blonde-haired young man inside, head bowed, lost in thought. An odd, instinctual feeling gnawed at Leon, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint why. Why does he seem so... familiar?
Leon felt he was missing something but as he tried to come up with what, the carriage was already gone. Leon tried to come up with a reason, but try as he might, he couldn’t figure it out. Shaking his head and putting it away for now, he focused on the messages.
[Welcome to the mainland! The teleportation has randomly taken you to the Capital of the Kingdom of Gurhl, known for its powerful military and local gold mines!]
Kingdom of Gurhl huh, gold mines that I will not act upon. Leon thought. The message was both a hint and a warning.
Gold mines were a literal trove of money, but a famed military would guard this one. There was no way the Kingdom would ignore the mines. Leon looked around and noticed that the people nicely, architecture wise. It was very similar to a Victorian England setting he’d seen in his past life.
A bustling economy. No doubt to the gold mines, people seem happy as well. Leon noticed a lot of smiling people as they passed on the streets and many people talked happily with each other. Leon also noticed a fair amount of Players walking around.
He continued to look at the other messages he had got.. [Hidden Extreme Storyline Quest Accepted: The Snake’s Uprising!] Quest Detail: In the faraway Kingdom of Rashia the people suffer every day because of their corrupt leaders, it’s time for a revolt! Because of your good relationship with the Snake gang, they have allowed you to assist them with their revolt if you wish to do so. Objective: Meet with Moe Highman in Rashia.
That’s…quite the surprise. Leon didn’t quite know what to feel from this quest. It was nice to get a hidden storyline quest, but Leon knew he was far from prepared for it. I also don’t remember a revolt happening in the novel. Leon knew he could change canon. He didn’t know he would do so in such a drastic way.
Ignoring it for now, Leon focused on the next message. [Normal Class Quest Accepted: Summoner’s Trials.] Quest Detail: There are a lot of pathways for Summoners. Now is not the time to choose yet for the basics need to be mastered first. Objective: Get to level 25.
I already know my path tough, still, the basics are important. He would focus on creating a solid basis for his future path. After reading the messages, Leon felt a little lost.
What to do now? There was so much to do that it felt overwhelming. He calmed down and focused on what he lacked. Soon, a big hole in his character screen became obvious. I lack souls. Souls were a big part of the game. Leon only had his class soul, and that already gave a big power boost.
Players could gain souls from any monster at a minuscule rate, or they could buy them for a ton of gold. And finally, some quests would give them out as rewards. Those quests were infamously difficult.
First things first, I need information on the Kingdom. Leon suddenly realised the massive help Jack’s map was. With the map, he would know exactly where to go. So it was off to the store to find a map with some details of the Kingdom.
With the parade over, the people started moving again; the streets got less full and people dispersed. With fewer people in the streets, Leon moved through it.
As he moved through the bustling streets of the capital, Leon’s anxiety rose. The crowd pressed in around him, voices blending into an overwhelming hum.
Stay calm, just like you remember. He donned his mental mask to dull the sensory overload. Beans had got back to his sleeping place on Leon’s shoulders in his robes at some point.
Leon found a general store and bought a map for 50 copper coins. It was pretty expensive considering a normal map of the tutorial village was 10 copper, but this one was far bigger than the one in the tutorial.
Looking at the map, Leon decided on his next course of action. As I suspected, there are many Guilds around the Capital. Guilds were places where people gathered for either their profession or for something else.
Players could also erect guilds to build up an entire faction of power, guilds would become a massive part of the novel that Leon had read. His sister would also start one and build an entire faction around her.
Leon didn’t know if he would join Rose’s guild. On one hand, it was his sister. It would be almost criminal if he didn’t support her. However, he didn’t like to be in one. Leon liked to be alone or with a tiny group of people. I’ll think about that later. He ignored the issue for now.
First off, let’s get that Profession Soul. Leon looked at the map and moved. Players could obtain professions as sub-classes. Players utilised those classes to create items or equipment.
The professions were: Blacksmith, Tailor, Alchemist, Cook, Fisher and Carpenter. There were also special gathering skills like the skinning skill Leon had got in the tutorial.
Leon had no interest in blacksmithing, cooking, or carpentry, these professions wouldn’t help his class. Fisher was a bit of an odd one. A player would fish in a body of water and could obtain random items or even special monsters worth a lot of meat, materials, and even experience.
Leon didn’t feel averse to fishing. The opposite could even be true, as fishing was about stillness and being calm. He had never tried fishing in his past life, though. Alchemist and Tailor were remaining. Alchemists would make potions and transmute different magical objects. Tailors made lightweight armour like the robes Leon was wearing.
Unfortunately, a player could only choose one profession. So he had to make a choice. In the end, Leon decided to for Alchemist as his profession. Creating potions and magical objects held a lot of value to him, not to mention it also opened a few doors for his future path in summoning.
As a result, Leon was now standing in front of a massive building. Leon noticed banners on the outside, displaying a potion bottle, and observed many people walking inside and outside. The Alchemists’ Guild, time for another test. Leon felt some déjà vu. Didn’t he feel this way about magic as well?
