Soul Sage - Chapter 0: Prologue

A large dense light falling in the darkness.

Suddenly, his consciousness wakes up

'What..what is this place'

He was just a ball of light falling in the void, although it was dark, he could see other countless of lights falling the same way. Like a river of light flowing in the night sky.

As he fell, pieces of himself starts to fall off. Each piece that fell off, he felt as if he forgot something. Something important to him, but now it was just a feeling. Like a shadowless memory, he could not remember.

He tried to speak but he had no mouth. He noticed he had no eyes, no nose, no ears. He couldn't even see his body. He didn't need to turn to see what was behind him, he could see everything around him all at once.

He felt a sense of peace as he fell, but that feeling of loss grew.

A sense of crisis emerged from his mind

'I have to get out of here!”

Although he became panicked he could not move himself. He could only fall..

After some time, within the darkness he saw black rocks, each containing different holes.

One after the other, the lights that were further bellow entered into one of these holes.

At the very bottom, a huge crater like hole which was 100 times larger than the rest. It sucked up most of the other lights. He could faintly see that the lights shake and shrunk as they entered it.

The sense of crisis he had been feeling peaked.

His mind focused, thinking of a way to escape that huge bottomless crater.

An epiphany!

'The more I forget the more pieces falls off, but as the pieces fell, the trajectory of my fall change a tiny bit'

A memory of his job

-Poof-

A large piece fell off

A memory of his friends

-Poof-

Another chunk fell off

Forcefully releasing each memory from his mind, one by one, each memory disappeared

He struggled to remove all other unimportant memories, but it was still not enough

A memory of his parents and siblings..

-Poof-

A memory of his wife..

-Poof-

The huge ball of light that was him shrunk down into a tiny ball but thankfully his trajectory changed

He was bound to land in a tiny hole, that sparkled unlike the others

A feeling of success grew within him, but quickly after, he sensed that he had forgotten many important things.. He forgot everything about himself except for one thing…

His name

'I… I am Rallen… Rallen..'

As he fell down the sparkling hole he chanting his name over and over again…

It was all he had right now..

....

Fires burned everything to the ground. The stench of blood surrounded the area. Screams of everyone in the caravan echoed in his ears.

Bandits surrounded their path to escape, a girl shivering with him and an old man protecting both of them. Three figures, two men and a woman, holding weapons as they fought off the incoming bandits.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

A large bandit with a scarred face across his left cheek raise his sword and slashed downwards towards one of the man

“FATHER!!!”

His voice echoed within his mind.

He found himself in a dark room.

Sweat covered his face and back.

'It's the same dream again'

Tears started pouring out of his eyes. He laid back down on the pile of straw and covered himself with a small dirty blanket with many holes.

His eyes staring at the old shed's ceiling.

'Father..'

He closes his eyes and went back to sleep.

The night was cold in an old shed at the back.

....

Early in the morning, the sky was still dark

The smell of dew covered grass spread into the old shed

"Brat get out of here, we are leaving now!"

A fat grumpy middle aged man kicked open the shed door.

A young man was suddenly awoken. He hasn't slept well since that incident.

"Let's go, I can't take care of you any more, but I'll drop you off somewhere where you can survive"

The middle aged man was not cruel, but he was no saint either. He had to take care of his family, and had no room to raise someone else's child he had no relation with.

The old man sighed as he looked at the young man. He knew what had happened to the kid

"If that old man did not ask me to take care of you, I would have thrown you away from the start. Don't think too badly of me. This is just how the world is"

....

Both of them traveled for 2 days to the closest city.

The trip was quiet, sometimes the middle aged man would start talking, but the youth remained quiet.

They arrived at a large courtyard in the outer area of the city.

"We're here, this is the place"

They approach the entrance and a guard who was standing near it saw them approach.

"Hm? Whats your business here?" the guard asks

The guard work a bronze helmet and leather armor. On his hand was a large spear and on his waist was a sheathed sword.

The middle aged man placed his hands together in respect and smiled

"This young man would like to enlist"

The guard heard the middle aged man and looked at the young lad.

"Mister, dumping your son here?" the guard asked

"Oh, no. He isn't my son. Someone just asked me to take care of him, but... The times are getting hard, I can't take care of him" the middle aged man explained

The guard understood the middle aged man's predicament. There were many kids enlisted to become soldiers because families could no longer afford to feed them.

"Okay, Kid, whats you're name?"

The guard looked at the kid waiting for him to respond but the kid would not answer

The old man immediately interrupted "Oh sir, this young child's name is 'Ray'. He does not talk, he is mute"

"A mute?"
