“Tell me, can gods die?“
A large and muscular figure stood tall in his scrawny friend's study. Although, it seems he had been quite tired from the antics and did not return the same enthusiasm. Languidly, and without the shift of gaze he replied:
“I do not know.“
He sat behind his desk with his gaze and most of his attention fixated on a book before him. It was clear, whatever his friend had done, he will not invest the energy required to mitigate the consequences. Of course, providing, it does not affect him negatively.
“Is that all you have? You are not going to ask me what I done this time?“ He said with a playful tone.
“I am exhausted from work and you, I no longer have the physical and mental fuel to address your circumstances and or actions.“ His friend answered swiftly.
“I was gone for months! You didn't look for me?“
The tired man sighed, and slumped his shoulders. He did not want to talk, but that would only elongate the conversation if he did not answer. After a a few seconds, he spoke:
“I am well-aware of your capabilities, I highly doubt that you would perish out there.“
“Hahahaha!“ He laughs heartily at his cold reply and treated it as a complement. “Indeed! It's hard to find any competition out there anymore!“
The reading man finally looks at him, and he was met with an overly muscular man clad in an ill-fitting robe and pantaloon. He looked for his face, and saw grinning visage. Unpleasant, but familiar.
“So that's why,” He continued. “I search for a good rival to my strength.“
The tired man closed the book on hand, leaned back on his chair and focused his attention to his friend. Although, he did not like implications of his first sentence.
“So... what happened while you were on your journey?“
Unlike before, his tone of voice became stern. “I killed Geleth.“
“...What?“
He was in shock, although he expressed little of that. But still, it was a large bombshell that he was not sure how to process. His emotions quickly became mixed and his stoic demeanour had cracked slightly.
“I had killed him. The God of Death is no more.“
He announced proudly with a grin. As for his friend, well, needless to say, it was a large pill to swallow. Part os his mind believed his claim, but the other had great doubts regarding it.
Killing gods... Utterly ridiculous.
He had no reaction to the news, simply because he did not know how. It was an inconceivable feat. He did not even know how how he achieved what he did. He could not believe it. But then again, he did not even know if gods could truly be slain by a mortal — albeit a long lived one.
“Tell me, how did you do it?“ He said as he stood frozen.
“As usual, I had killed him with sword in hand.“
“Do you have proof of this?“
“I'm glad you asked!“ He said with jubilance.
“I was intending to show you this too!“
The large man beckoned his friend to follow him to the outside of his home. It was a respectable house, but not too large and quickly reached the main door.
“Behold! Your god of death!“
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
As if it was some sort of freak show beholding an audience to a person of disability. But instead, of a disabled man, he was met with a lifeless and unrecognizable carcass. There was no body part that he could name within the mountain of flesh and bone.
He expected the body of man, or at least, similar to it. Yet, he was met with an indescribable mesh of organic matter that do not resemble any animal.
“Is that him?“ The scrawny bookworm looked to his friend withal confused look.
As for the other, he was amused at his expression. It was a rare sight that he could not help but laugh.
“Hahaha! I know I have the same look too when I saw this thing!“
“Are you for certain that this is the god of death?“
“Yes, we all always assumed that he passed the body of a man, but apparently we were wrong.“ He grinned.
“I see... though I still do not believe you.“
“What!? What do you mean, the evidence is right there in front of you!“ He said with a hint exasperation and rage.
“Well, I have to study your evidence to know whether or not it is authentic.“ He said coolly.
In response, his friend smiled brightly confident at the result of the analysis.
“Also, tell me first. Why did you decide you wanted to kill Geleth?“
His expression shifts as he tried to recall his previous steps while he caressed his chin with his fingers.
“That is by incident. I wanted to see Geleth's face, since I was passing by, why not pay him a visit? Though, along the way I accidentally killed two of his Death Knights which kinda pissed him off.“
“Ugh...“ Ignoring the idiotic reasoning, he rubbed his eyes. “You were forced into a fight?“
“Yep. I thought that would be my last fight, but turns out, he's not as strong as we thought he was.“ He said in a somewhat proud tone.
“You do realise we do not know what happens when a god dies.“
“Indeed, but I was fighting for my life.“
“It was a fight you could've easily avoided if you did not act upon your impulse.“
“Well, there's not much we can do now can we?“
“True. But you should realise that every action like this has it's consequences.“
“Liks what?“
“Like his soul and spirit. What happened to it?“
“Ah, I do remember seeing break into pieces shotting up to the sky when I killed him.“
“What? And you did not attempt to capture any of them.“
“I don't know how.“
His annoyance towards his friend mounted as he uncovered more. If his account was true, it was disastrous.
“You do know what one's soul contain?“
“Of course, it's basic knowledge.“
“Since you said it shot to the sky, the soul fragments might have been scattered across the world.“
“So it's likely these souls would be in the hands of many different people now?“
“Indeed, so we must find them, but first I had to clear all my doubts first, and I still have questions for you.“
“But why?“
His friend steps closer.
“Why? You are asking 'Why?' It is the soul of a god you killed!“ He raised his voice.
“So? All that'll do I give them the powers of the thing I just killed. I could just kill them if they costs us trouble.“
He was speechless abd frankly he did not know how to respond to his brutish thinking.
It doesn't matter it belongs to the one you killed. If it laid on the hands of someone who could use it far more effectively, all that meant was trouble for us.
“Listen, I am confident in your abilities, but we should not assume. This is a large world, anything is possible, including someone surpassing you.“
“Why do you want his soul anyway?“
“Are you daft? Have you forgotten what I have been pursuing for most of my life?“
“Oh yeah! Immortality! That was thing you were researching, right?“
“If I could acquire the soul of the one who rules death, then you know what that implies.“
“Yeah, I get It now.“ He smiles as he realises what he meant.
“Wait a minute, I thought you don't believe me?“
“I do. But I my suspicions that you might be telling the truth. But I had to make sure that you have the real body.“
“Nobody knows what he even looks like, how would you know that?“
“I'll show you.“
“So, you'll believe me soon then?“ Strangely, he sounded gleeful.
“We will see.“
