When the curtain opens on a scene, everything is different. It adjusts to what is new, adds hidden or obvious elements to what is "seen", it readies the stage for the acting protagonists or gives villains a chance to shine. It is motion, but a quiet still motion.
I think it best represents time.
You can stay stuck in that moment, enjoy it or hate it to your heart's content, but once the novelty wears off you're begging for what's next.
I was at this moment feeling quite stuck in my personal scene.
I was lonely. Not to be dramatic here, but the world as I knew it was dark.
I understood something about me made me stand out just enough to make people want to actively avoid me.
Maybe it was my wild curly hair or more likely, it was my strange demeanor that seemed to put people on edge.
I don't really want to go too far back with this. So I will just say, I had no friends, and my future was looking pretty bleak.
Something bright loomed on the Horizon, though.
I stared hard at my perpetual darkness and noticed the moon was crowning the edge of that night sky.
I wasn't prepared for that and couldn't make much sense of it, so I put the thought in the back of my mind.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
I distracted myself with other things.
For example, I was going to a summer camp soon. I wondered what that might be like, but defaulted to my dreary expectations that I would simply be ignored.
I couldn't even really blame anyone for pretending I didn't exist. That was the hardest part. I was boring, dumb, lame. The only thing I appreciated about myself was my interest in the paranormal, and video games and those were considered useless to society.
To make it in this world you need some kind of practical skill that can be valued by others.
I knew that, but I was so distraught by my circumstances I hardly cared.
Future? What future could there be for the likes of a loser such as myself?
So the day I got dropped off at summer camp brought down those curtains of my former scene, and readied a new one for me.
A guy I knew was there. He was short and cute, but his personality was lacking because as I sat there minding my own business as usual, he's mocking my name.
It's not an abnormal event and he just comes across as obnoxious so I just ignore it.
A girl is sitting not too far from where I am, and she stands up for me.
I think this may be a first.
I'm happy, but feeling it's a bit unnecessary.
She draws my attention when I notice her drawing, though.
It's anime-style.
I compliment her art, and mention that I like anime too.
She didn't know it was anime, so I explain it to her.
From there, we became friends. We spent our time at that camp together.
Her name was Selene.
She had a great sense of humor, was the best artist I had ever met, creative in every way. Flirty and outgoing where I was shy and reserved.
We came up with stories together, shared our dreams, watched anime and made art.
She would later turn out to be a distant relative, and we'd become inseperable bff's.
Not just self-described as twins, but often confused by others that knew us best.
She turned the tides of my life and introduced me to other people that would help unlock the doors of my destiny.
