Publisher's note
The events that immediately prefaced what the modern scientific community describes as a "spontaneous mass obliteration event," or what has colloquially been referred to as The Cull (case ref: SJ09-3R-62) are already documented. Many texts provide thorough documentation and analysis of the sequence of events that led to the disappearance of roughly 140,000,000 people across the globe. We recommend Helen Ensphere's excellent Whatever Is Left for a thorough, measured compilation of global accounts to better understand the documented events leading to and culminating on March 3, 1998.
This particular publication does not intend to add to the volumes of journalism concerning already well-established facts. There is little need to. Rather, it offers a unique and exclusive view into the person(s) directly involved in The Cull, in their own words, via a series of personal correspondence. We cannot yet divulge how these crucial pieces of evidence of one of mankind's most heinous atrocities came into our possession, but their authenticity has been verified by numerous expert panels, government agencies, and by the identifiable correspondents themselves. As has already been made public, we continue to secure additional correspondence. As the various letters arrive, they continue to be analyzed by global experts for authenticity and for any indication of the whereabouts of those responsible for 3/3.

According to the most recent carbon record analysis, all correspondence ended several years after The Cull took place. What we do not yet know, and what this collection hopes to help achieve, is a more complete understanding of the conditions that led to our shared calamity. It is our hope that by publishing these documents, we will contribute to a growing body of knowledge whose only sensible design is to prevent such events from recurring.
