Chapter 1.2.1: An Unexpected Encounter... For the Third Time...?

“Mom, I’m home!” Miwa exclaimed, “Picked up some snacks for you on the way back!” She added, setting down a bag of snacks next to her as she took off her shoes.

“Sorry I’m a little late, I was with a friend so I got held up for a little bit!” She called out again, “I’ll start up on dinner though!”

Miwa grabbed the bag of snacks, put her slippers on, and wandered into the kitchen. She placed the bag down on the table. She turned on the stove.

Miwa grabbed a few ingredients, some rice, green onions, a couple eggs, oil and the like. It was time to show her amazing cooking skills!

“I’m gonna be such a great wife one day!” Miwa giggled to herself, “Mom, I’m making some omurice, do you want some?”

Miwa heard a groan before her mother’s voice was heard down the hall, “I’ll have some, thank you!”

Miwa hummed a tune to herself as she cooked. She finished pretty quickly and tossed the rice on a plate, then added the egg on top. She cut into the egg and it splooshed all over the rice in a very satisfying way. She giggled to herself about it before then making a second plate. She grabbed both plates of omurice and wandered down the hallway towards her mother.

Miwa kicked the door lightly, “Mom, dinner’s ready! You eating in here or at the table?” She asked.

“I’ll eat at the table, give me a little bit, I just woke up,” Her mother said.

“Okay! I’ll wait at the table for you! But I’ll probably start eating before you get there, it smells too good to resist!” Miwa joked.

Miwa trotted back to the kitchen, set the plates down on the table, and then sat down. She quickly began to wolf down her omurice. It was delicious! Eggs perfectly runny and ketchup made a perfect addition!

Soon, Miwa’s mother joined her at the table. Her mother yawned, “Did you have a good first day?” She asked.

“Yeah! I had a lot of fun too! I even made a friend!” Miwa exclaimed.

“Ohhh?” Her mother chimed, “Who’s this friend? Ah, wait let me guess! It was just like those shoujo anime, you were running through campus late for class, you didn’t pay attention to where you were running, and smacked right into him, he helped you pick up your things and you both accidentally touched hands, then pulled your hands back and looked away in embarrassment!”

“Well, that’s kinda how it happened, I guess,” Miwa said, “Except it was a girl and I’m not a lesbian,” She giggled.

Miwa’s mother shrugged and munched on her omurice, “Ooooh, this is really good! Thank you!” She giggled, “But tell me about this friend! I must know more! What’s her name? What’s she studying?”

“Ah– Her name’s Furukawa Asako…” She murmured, “I think she’s been in university a while… But I don’t know what she’s studying…”

“Oooh, I see,” Her mother said, “How about Asako-san, is she gay?” Her mother teased.

“Eh??” Miwa exclaimed, “Mom, why would you ask that!”

“It’s a legitimate question!” Her mother said, “I have to know if this Asako-san will be sweeping my darling daughter off of her feet,” She gushed.

“Your fantasies are going to your head mom… You need to get back to bed,” Miwa said, “I’ll clean up after you,”

“Ah fiiiiiine,” Miwa’s mother said, “I’ll only take a small nap though, I have chores to do you know!”

Miwa’s mother started off to her room, “Also- stop worrying about coming home so much… Go spend some time at your dorm room, you haven’t even seen it yet and haven’t even introduced yourself to your roommate, a bit rude if you ask me,” Miwa’s mother giggled.

Miwa groaned, “Mmmnn, I’ll… Go in the morning and get situated then… I just hate meeting new people,”

“Didn’t stop you with your new friend at school,” Miwa’s mother teased, “Now, get some rest, I’ll be in my room if you need anything,”

Asako yawned and scratched at her neck again. Seemed like a routine she did every morning at this point. She really should do something about that, it kinda sucks.

“Mornin’ Asako, have another eventful night last night?” Azumi teased, “Is this one finally the one for you?”

“Psssht, as if,” Asako said, “I’m not ready for all that commitment yet, you know that!”

“Ooooh,” Azumi cood, “Are you playing the part of a heartbreaker now? Taking women home and never calling them back again,” She said in the most overly dramatic fashion she could muster.

“That’s-” Asako started before getting distracted by a very frantic Miwa running past, and running into Asako once again, dropping all of her belongings. It really was starting to seem like a morning routine…

“We’ve got to stop meeting like this, Miwa,” Asako joked, “I get that I’m hot and sexy, but there’s better ways to get my attention,”

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

“Ah! I’m sorry, Furukawa-san!” Miwa rushed out apologies faster than her brain could keep up with, “I get so scatterbrained whenever I’m rushing and I always end up running into something… Or someone…”

Miwa quickly grabbed everything she dropped, “Class is starting in three minutes… I knew I should’ve left home earlier…” She huffed, “I’ll see you later, Furukawa-san! We can text each other later!”

“I don’t even have your number…” Asako watched Miwa run off and just laughed to herself. She picked up a pen that Miwa had failed to grab, tossed it in the air a few times, and wandered off, “What an interesting girl,”

“Ooooo, you catching some feelings over there?” Azumi cooed, “I can see it now… Three years time when you’ve gone and graduated… Kobayashi Miwa and you are in the kitchen, fixing up lunch, kissing each other on your way out, and working hard to support each other in the future,”

“Ehhh… What…? I don’t think I followed anything you just said…” Asako said, “Besides… I’m not ready for that kinda commitment, not again…”

“Oooo, look at you gettin’ all dark and gloomy, don’t worry, I was just teasing you,” Azumi said, “It was hard enough consoling you from one heartbreak, don’t need you going through another one,”

“Wanna hang out in my dorm room? Don’t got classes for a little while, so we have some time to kill,” Asako said.

“Did you even have to ask?” Azumi giggled.

“Well Azumi, I’ll see you later then,” Asako said, seeing Azumi off.

“See ya tomorrow, don’t slip on a banana peel and break your back!” Azumi said.

“Eh what…?”

“And when life gives you lemons-”

Asako closed the door in Azumi’s face and sat down at her desk. She furrowed her brows and heaved a sigh, this story wasn’t going to write itself, and she had no motivation to continue writing. However, her current work-in-progress seemed to stare deep into her soul, judging her for procrastinating for so long.

“Why does writing suck so bad…” Asako said, “Wish I had something to just write all my stories for me… Make this so much easier…”

Surprisingly, as Asako was having this dilemma, she heard her door unlocking. At first expecting the worst, Asako grabbed the closest thing she could find, which in this case was a raw potato. It was firm enough to hurt someone if thrown hard enough!

Asako was just getting ready to throw the potato as hard as she could before the door creaked open and Miwa popped into the room!

“Oh, hi Furukawa-san!” Miwa beamed, “I didn’t expect to see you here!”

“Err… Yeah… What are you doing here?” Asako asked.

“Oh! This is the room that was assigned to me… I think… The key worked so it must be…” She murmured to herself, “Also why do you have a potato?”

Asako put the potato down onto her desk, “That’s… Not important, but it’s nice to see you again!”

Miwa just stood in the doorway awkwardly for a few moments. She glanced around the room a few times before taking a giant step into the room.

“You okay over there?” Asako chuckled, “Just paused and didn’t do anything for a second there,”

“Yeah… I’m okay,” Miwa murmured, “I just feel like my heart’s gonna beat out of my chest and I don’t know why…”

Asako stood up and wandered over to Miwa. Asako patted Miwa’s head, “Don’t let my good looks and charm get you riled up,” She teased, “Anyway, feel free to unpack your things, your bed is the top bunk,”

“Right!” Miwa exclaimed, quickly moving away from Asako. Her heart was beating super fast but she didn’t know why!

Furukawa-san’s really nice! And she smells nice… Miwa thought to herself. She shook her head, those kinds of thoughts were kinda weird!

Miwa unpacked her things, which mostly consisted of her laptop, a few notebooks, and a binder. Miwa slapped her cheeks a few times before turning to face Asako again, who had buried herself in her laptop. Asako had a hand clenching a part of her hair and her other hand tapping her nails on the desk.

Miwa stared at Asako for an uncomfortable amount of time. Asako typed on her laptop, erased everything she had worked on, restarted it, erased everything again, cursed under her breath, and restarted again all in the span of a few minutes.

Eventually, Miwa mustered up the courage to walk up to Asako and tap on her shoulder, “What are you working on?” Miwa asked.

“Ooh!” Asako yelped, “Startled me… I’m working on some stupid novel I’ve been trying to write for the past few years now…”

“Oh! That sounds super fun! I could draw stuff for your novel too!” Miwa said, “We could make it into a manga!”

Asako chuckled, “I couldn’t ask you to do that, not for free, at least,”

“It’d be good practice for me! What’s your story about anyway? I’m invested in it now!” Miwa exclaimed.

“Ah, it’s just some stupid romance novel…” Asako murmured, “It’s nothing special or anything, I just have writers block…”

“I love romance novels!” Miwa squealed, “I’d love to draw something for you sometime!”

“Pffft, you’re adorable, Miwa,” Asako said.

Asako got a few text notifications on her phone and a call started to come through from an unknown number.

“Ah- sorry Miwa, I gotta take this, I’ll be back in a sec,”

Asako ran out of the room and answered the call. Miwa on the other hand, sat down in Asako’s chair and began to read through the novel she had been writing. There was a good amount written already! And it seemed like she had a pretty good plot going!

Miwa skimmed the first few pages of it before stumbling upon what appeared to be a sex scene that Asako had been struggling to write!

“Two girls can…” Miwa muttered under her breath before going bright red in the face, hopping out of the chair and marching back to her own desk.

Miwa sat down, rubbed her forehead, and began to think about what she had just witnessed. She just kept muttering to herself that “Two girls can…” And not elaborating any further.

After a few minutes of calming down and relaxing, Asako finally came back into the room, “Hey Miwa, I gotta head out now, I’ll be back later tonight! We can watch a movie or something!”

Miwa snapped out of her trance and looked at Asako, “Okay!” She beamed, “I’ll see you tonight then! If we’re gonna watch a movie I have a few ideas!”

Asako snickered, “Alright then, I’ll leave it in your hands! I’ll bring some snacks back home, we’ll have fun! Bye bye!”

“Bye bye, Furukawa-san!”

Asako stood outside of a small apartment building and began texting someone, I’m outside she texted.

Soon, a door unlocked and a girl poked her head outside. She locked onto Asako and waved her in. Asako disappeared into the apartment and locked the door behind her.
