Ch 23 Jan 3-5
Waking up feeling refreshed once more. I listened to the rainstorm coming from the speaker for a few minutes, just enjoying the moment. No stress, no worries. Just me, the freedom to create, and the supplies to just keep going as I wish.
“Raven how long did I sleep?”
“Attention, user was asleep for six hours.”
So, it's about 8pm Jan 3. I should make a calendar somewhere for myself. Easier to keep track of. Why didn't I buy one? Wait, didn't I buy one? Looking through my inventory I see that I have several note books. Deciding that would do I pull a new one and set to. Starting with the first page I write my entrance date of June the 13, which was a Sunday. Making sure I knew when I knew I would come back out. Then I started writing. About the system and what I knew. What I had accomplished before entering. The deals I made with the hospital and the guard. The guild I was setting up with Lucas. My thoughts on the parking garage turning into a camp ground. My consideration for living in the dungeon.
Then I starting writing about living in the dungeon. Start with Jan 1 I set up camp and drew out my layout for the tents. I was getting much better at drawing with all the precision diagrams I was doing from enchanting. Then I wrote what I had done. The shirts. The meals. The pool. What raven had told me. How many wands I had done. A guess at how many dowels I had cut. My experiments for the shorts and two enchantments. My practice with the bags. Day by day I went. Ending with Jan 3 and waking up at 8pm. This way I can keep track of my sleep cycles, and when to eat better.
Glancing around. “Raven how long was I writing?”
“Attention, user was writing for approximately 2.4 hours.”
So, its roughly 10.30 pm. Alright I can work with that. Time to eat then bathroom. Then set up a schedule. Sitting at my dining table I reach for the coffee.
“Can you pull a breakfast meal please?” I ask Raven.
“Confirmed.”
There was a plate of grilled fish, a bowl of soup and a bowl of rice. I'm fairly sure this was an Asian breakfast, but I can deal. After a few pulls of coffee, I switch to water though. Coffee is just weird with fish. After eating I call back to Raven.
“Alright, my timing has been poor. So, I'd like if you got my attention every six hours. Just give me an announcement that it has been six hours, unless I'm asleep. Ok?”
“Confirmed. User will be given announcement every six hours, unless asleep.”
“Thanks Raven.”
With that taken care of I can set up a rotation. Every six hours I can take a break for a bit. Just give my body a check in see how I'm doing. Not go so long without taking care of myself. I could have made it four, but then I would have ignored it for two rotations. So, this works out for me, I think. Let's see how it goes for a bit.
Stretching up and jogging in place a moment, I consider what I want to work on. I've been in a bit of a work slog. Now that I want to rest a minute, I'm not sure what I want to focus on. I think I'll check the second bag though.
Going to pick it up, I try to look inside. Lifting the side flap and peering in, it makes me queasy with vertigo. I quickly look away. It's like looking off the side of a tall tower when you're on the first floor. Your brain knows something is wrong. This is a major problem.
I pull out a blank note book and tear out a sheet of paper and crumple it up and throw it in. Then without looking I try to reach my arm in and grab it. There's no feasible way my arm should be able to reach the bottom, right? Feeling around the bag, it's like my hand is in open air though. And it's a magnet to everything around it. Logically I know there's a crumpled ball of paper in the bag. But I instinctually know there's is something in the bag I want to recall. So, it comes to my hand.
I pull the paper ball to my and withdraw my arm, blinking. That should not have worked, right? My confusion is written on my face when I look at Raven.
“Attention. Expressed enchantment with the idea of being able to find what you need and remembering what you need when you see it.”
I think back to when I was drawing the enchantment, everything I think about basements. Remembering, needing, knowing. It's all there. I let myself laugh. This is perfect. Just stick your hand in at what you need will come to you. Imagine a library like that. Or a pharmacy. Laughing deeper. I smile. This was a perfect enchantment. Better even than inventory where I had to sort it and remember on my own what I had. With thousands of items, I had to have Raven pull things because I couldn't find them quickly. I think I'll keep a bag like this for myself too. Writing down some easy math. Guestimatin the size of everything. I scrap it.
“Raven what is the volume of the messenger bag?”
“Attention. 44 cubic feet in open space.”
Okay good, more than enough room for everything. “And the fanny pack?”
“Attention, 14 cubic feet.”
Not horrible, more than enough space I think to make it worthwhile. While it doesn't have stasis that just makes it cheaper, I think. But, does it have the recall function? Or just storage function?
Picking up the fanny pack, I stick my arm in. Feeling silly. 14 cubic feet I can reach the edges of. It doesn't need a recall. I think I'll only set the attic for smaller spaces like the fanny packs. Just straight storage in a smaller space. Kids could use this instead of heavy backpacks. Hang on.
“Raven does this have weight reduction? Did I forget that?”
“Attention. User designated space for supports. Item weight will never change.”
“And the messenger bag?”
“Attention. User designated item with hidden properties, item weight will never change.”
Thank fuck. That would have really sucked had I forgotten those. Imagine carrying 44 cubic feet of weaponry in a bag. That would be like carrying 300 gallons of water.
Ok what to call them, attic and basement wouldn't mean anything to anyone else. Space with and without stasis? Enlargement? Cargo bags? They're not bags of holing like most people would know. 50 times bags space? Enhanced bags? Maybe just call the fanny packs storage bags. And the messenger and backpacks storage with stasis? Maybe open space bags? That would work. Open space bags. With and without stasis. There's a thought though.
“Raven, does everything just get lumped in or does it organize itself?”
“Attention. Attic bags must be manually organized. Basement bag is automatically organized.”
Well, that is what I was thinking when I did the enchantment. Everyone treats their attics differently. But most people treat their basements the same. Raven is calling them attic and Basement too. Is it because that's how I think of them? Or because thats what the enchantments are? I might as well sell them as attic and basement then. So not to get people confused. Only the fanny pack will be attic though. And the messenger and backpack will always be basement. Soon as I finish making them at least.
So that is what I'll do. Make a canvas backpack. It will need shoulder straps. The pattern has those. And a waist strap? I guess this isn't a student backpack but more of a camping backpack. Best get started.
***
Partially through, after I finish cutting. I had an idea. Why make one at a time? I want different colors, don't I? And different materials? Thinking a moment. I'm using canvas and denim for the bags because they are tougher materials. And I can't make the fabrics stronger without ruining the original enchantments.
Looking through the materials I have. I wonder if pristine would help remake an enchantment? It makes the bag neat and tidy, but what if the enchantment itself was damaged? I know no one can copy my enchantments thanks to create indecipherable language. But what if they tried and blamed me? I'm not sure how to handle that.
“Raven what would happen if the enchantments were damaged?”
“Attention. The damaged enchantments would destroy the item they were enchanting.”
Well shit. Do I need to put that as a forewarning on everything? Do not fuck with the glyphs to your own detriment?
“Would it harm anyone?”
“Negative. The item would collapse.”
“Okay say a bag had the basement enchant, would they lose all their belongings?”
“Affirmative.”
Well shit. Definitely need to put that as a warning. Or make it to where it can't get damaged. But how? Change the enchantment all over? Recreate it? Or just put more effort into learning how to double enchant something, I guess.
“Raven is it possible for me to learn to double enchant an item?”
“Confirmed. When user reached enchantment lvl 50. User will be able to enchantment an item twice.”
That seems like it would take awhile. Calling up status I looked for enchantment.

What? I had thirty levels? How did that happen? I knew I had been doing lots of tailoring but not that much enchanting. How. When?
I turn and look at raven. The wands. That raven made exactly how I would. Using my mana. I looked at my hands. All the dowels I sawed. Hundreds of them. That was it? Raven gained me experience? I called status and looked at my name.

I giggle. And keep giggling. I'm going to be lvl 3. Why didn't I level yet? I slept? I realize I'm shaking. So much experience. When did that happen? Was it from the wands? From tailoring? Just from enchanting? I take a shuddering breath. How far ahead will I be by the time I leave? I know Lucas asked for just a month. But I didn't think I could finish everything I wanted to. Could I come back though? It would mean clearing the dungeon again.
“Raven, why didn't I level? I slept?”
“Attention. User cannot level while inside dungeon.”
That makes sense. Don't want people to stay in here and auto level, I guess. Need to come out sometime? Or need to make sure that people don't power level? My brain feels fuzzy. I stagger to my dining table and grab my soda. Sugar should help. I start my random drinking game.
So many flavors I didn't know existed in soda form. Watermelon I could get behind. Not sure about kiwi. Mint is a definite no from me. One tasted like soap. Another peanut butter. I kept the game going til I felt full and buzzing from sugar.
Deciding to wash my face sounded like a good idea. So, I did that. Then I decided the kiddie pool was calling my name. Going into the second room I stripped, pristined myself. Shot a pristine at the water for some reason, then laid down into it. It was still a bit cool, but it helped my staggered mind slow. I decided I should just relax for awhile now. And keep calm. I closed my eyes and just breathed.
***
Blinking my eyes open, I shivered. My skin was pebbled with cold. Standing up, I went for my wand. I shot pristine at my clothes, as I had dropped them straight to the floor. After I toweled off, I got dressed. I was still decided on relaxing for now. I went to sit in my lounger and pulled out my fancy new reader. It was a white screen type to look like an actual book. Easier on the eyes than back lighting. But it wasn't anywhere near sorted. I sighed.

“Raven, can you organize my library? According to a regular library settings? With a search mode and highlights look up, with tags? And track what I've read?”
“Confirmed, processing.”
The reader went blank for a few moments. Then re lit. It was much better now. With categories and sub categories. A search bar with tags. And a way to set my likes and dislikes up.
“Thanks Raven.”
“Confirmed.”
I started sorting through. Looking for something easy to read. Feeling cheesy I looked at young adult fantasy. Usually less complicated, and it might give me ideas for more enchantments. Even if I was stealing ideas. Picking one involving sapient horses, I settled back and started the first book.
***
“Announcement. It has been six hours, since user last awoke.”
I blinked my eyes. Coming away from a far land involving magical horses and spellcasters galore. I remembered where I was, and what Raven had said.
I yawned and stretched. Rising from the lounger I made my way to the dining table. Not truly hungry but it had been long enough that I should eat anyway. Especially after my soda consumption. Asking for a random beef plate I starting eating, and once I did my appetite was awake. Demolishing the plate. I still felt hungry. Trying to decide if I was hungry enough for a second plate, I decided no. I'll give it a couple hours and see if I'm still hungry.
“Raven how long ago did I write in my journal?”
“Attention, user wrote in journal 15 hours ago.”
That makes it Jan 4 afternoon, about 3ish? Let's go with that. Pulling my journal to me I wrote down what happened and my thoughts. Working through everything is a good method to manage myself and depression. Especially now that I'm mostly alone.
Setting the journal aside for now. I decided I want to relax some more. My concentration on the book was broken though, and I don't think I could get back into it. Maybe I'll go watch a movie or something. Or play a game. Movie sounds better. Maybe a marathon with snacks. That sounds good. Watching an epic trilogy in order is always fun. And I never did watch it fully. Going to the green tent and setting up the desk, I kind of wish I had gotten a couch of some sort. I could set up the laptop in bed though and lay down. But harder to eat that way. Maybe pile the pillows up for a headboard? That sounds good. The laptop is set with the screen equal to my head? Would that work on an uneven surface too? I can try.
Making the bed up. I fold the blankets into squared to use as a headboard and set behind me. Pilling the pillows around myself as a chair I settle in. Squirming a bit until I'm mostly upright and comfortable, I pause. Then get up and grab my drink bottles. Settling back down, I put the two by two table next to the bed.
I then put a pillow on my legs and pull the laptop out and set it on the pillow. Its grey, and a little thicker than current market laptops. Opening it, the screens slide sideways. The keyboard pops up and slides to the side as well. A full mouse pops out and it's the trackball I want. With scroll wheel and a multitude of buttons. This seems pretty much perfect for me. Wondering I push the screens together, so I only see one. It works. Then I pick it up and it raises just as it was supposed to. I position it where I want it, then start looking for the movies folder. Not finding anything on the desktop, I was a little confused.
“Attention. Progressive technology is access using compatible AI. User does not have linked interface. Raven can be used in place of AI.”
“So, what they have brain computer interfaces?”
“Confirmed.”
Huh, neat. Weird, awkward. But neat.
“Can you make it, so its voice activated set to my voice please? Or does everything have to go through you?”
“Confirmed users technology will now activate through users voice.”
Cool. “Pull up epic series made in the last fifteen years.” A list shows on the screen. “Scroll down by ten.” it does so. “Play marvel cinematic in chronological order.” The first avenger starts rolling across the screen. With cinematic sound. My ears ache. “Lower volume by 50 percent!” I shout. The volume lowers to room level. With ringing ears. “Pause movie.” silence. I breath a moment.
“Raven prevent all sounds beyond pain tolerance from now on.”
“Confirmed.”
I take a drink of tea. Because it feels right in that moment. “Play movie.” Once again, the start of the movie, with much better quality and sound than I'd ever had before. I had the sneaking suspicion I got better screen than 16x9 that I knew. I wasn't going to complain though. It was almost like I was there. But behind a wall of glass.
Remembering the promise of snacks to myself I ask raven for them. Randomness continues. Popcorn. Pocky. Dumdums. Jelly babies. Things I don't know the name for. I just snacked the entire time I watched three movies. Drinking mocktails and nutrient water the entire time. It felt like a good evening.
Finishing iron man, after watching captain marvel. I started cleaning up my mess. Turning the laptop off and setting the bottles on the table. I felt lethargic. Just throwing everything back into my inventory seemed like a good idea, so I did.
Pushing the pillows onto the rug, and pulling the closest blanket onto myself, I rolled into it. Snuggling down, I decided I should let myself go more often. I had been to focused with work in the last year to do anything, and too focused to get a better job in the last few months to relax. And now I'm too focused on enchanting to think straight. My brain was slowing down, and I just felt so tired. Within minutes I was out.
***
Rolling over hours later, I struggled to get up. The blanket I had burrito-ed myself in did not want me to leave its clutches. I ended up on the floor and rolling out. It felt like I had truly won a deep struggle. Laughing about myself, this morning I felt ten times better than last night. Standing up I reached for the plain water and started chugging. All the snacks left me with little in the way of hydration. And I was so thirsty.
Leaving the tent I went to wash my face. Feeling revitalized, I looked through the meals myself. Finding a plate of waffles, I pulled it and started chowing down. Feeling stuffed, I shoot a pristine at myself and felt the syrup leave my face and hands. Standing, I shoot a pristine at my shorts and boxers. Then for the hell of it my sandals too. Wiggling my toes the sandals feel less stiff for some reason. I guess pristine doesn't do starch and helps with breaking them in? Thoughts for later.
“Raven how long since I wrote in my journal?”
“Attention it has been 13 hours since user last wrote in journal.”
ok so that makes it about 1am? 2? Let's go with 2am. On Jan 5. I start writing everything I did down on a new page. That I just relaxed and watched movies. I had snacks then slept. Four days on one or two days off sounds like a good schedule. But I don't really want another off day. What to do now?
“Aright, Raven inform me when it's been six hours.”
“Confirmed.”
With that I set about to the side projects. Learning something new could count as an off day, right? Picking through the kits I find the loom knitting one. Deciding I should learn regular knitting first I pick that one instead.
It's just a book and a few tools. Good thing I bought my own yarn. Looking through the book its set up to walk you through how to use knitting needles and different stitches and how to make a few different projects. Pretty much the complete basics of knitting. Seems easy enough. Going through the yarns I pick a blue, of course. This one says its acrylic and seems pretty soft. According to the book you have to match the needle size to the yarn weight. The yarn package has the right needle size suggested on it so that works, and I picked up different packs of needles, so I have a set. I can't find if I need circulars or straights for which projects though.
“Raven, you said I have a frozen instance of the internet, right?”
“Confirmed. Frozen instance at the time of entering the dungeon.”
“Does that include everything on YouTube?”
“Confirmed.”
And here I thought I would be bored at some point. Hah. Taking my selected yarn, book and needles to the desk in the tent. I set up the laptop with both screens open. “Open YouTube on left screen, search basics of knitting tutorial.” A list showed up. “Search most popular playlist for knitting basics tutorial.” A new list showed. “Start playing second result.”
With that I started to follow along to the most basic of tutorials of knitting from NimbleNeedles. Following along, I learned how to cast on stitches and how to knit a stitch. Taking several tries and messing up. The yarn and my fingers not quite deft enough to meet. Learning where to keep my fingers and how to keep the yarn even. It was a fun bit of learning. Doing several rows this way nimbleneedles started doing pearl stitches and going the opposite direction of knit stitches. Which lost me again. Instead of taking the 40 minutes of the video I kept pausing and took three hours to make a small square. I felt proud of it though. I had learned it without the system helping me. Proving that I could still learn things the old fashioned way.
“Raven how many skill points does knitting cost in the store?”
“Attention, with prior instruction Knitting is reduced by 2 points. Current cost 18 skill points.”
What? That means all those little old grannies that have knitting for decades could get the skill for free. And keep their skills, and maybe raise it rapidly. I sigh. Maybe I'll do that with other skills too. But for now, I want to focus on knitting. It's fun. I think. I start the video over and begin anew.
***
Three squares later I call quits. My fingers ache and my eyes feel the eye strain from staring at tiny stitches. I should have started with a larger yarn weight than fingering. But that's what I get from learning. I feel accomplished, but I don't feel like doing anything else for now. I remember thinking I should have bought lotion. For other reasons, but I never did. My hands could use it now. I want hot water now. Maybe I'll work on thinking enchantments for a bit.
Setting the yarn and the squares back on the side project tables. I start messaging my hands. They feel like cramping. I did want to make a temperature control enchantment too. Pulling a sheet of paper out, I start drawing my squares on it. I want a hot, cold and an overall temp. Do I want separate hold cold? Or a variation between? Letting you go from very hot to very cold? That sounds good. Then a temperature control to keep a person or room at the same temp.
The temp control I would think like a stasis but can affect more. Would a room need more than one? Like it can do so much space around it? Maybe this would be a good tattoo? Or focus on the room temp for now. How to make this? A tag wouldn't work, I think. Maybe a cube? Or a set of them to focus inward? Like a ward? That would make sense. The bigger the space the more mana needed? Would it be channeled or just set up cost and use ambient? How to go about this.
“Raven, do I have any wood left?”
“Negative.”
There goes that idea. Too bad I made all the dowels already. What else do I have? The stones! I got the toilet idea. That would work. But how do I enchant them? I never figured it out. Can I carve rock? I have the chisels. I would just have to be very careful. And try to keep it simple.
But first draw the pattern on paper. Then transfer it to the rocks. Maybe something like a fan in a house? Or someone tucked into bed? Honestly the only time everyone is perfectly comfortable is while bathing, so maybe in a shower? That would be the hot cold though. And I don't want to use wet. Bed maybe. Perfect temp in bed.
Focusing on the imagery of perfect temp while in bed. The comfort of blankets the coziness of pillows. The warmth of bedding. The coolness of sheets. Using that I start a simple drawing of a blanket with stick figure wrapped in it. Arms over the blanket as to be free to move. Feet sticking out as to never be caught. But the whole person is at a perfect temp to rest. This should do it.
I wonder if I could change the temp of the water in the kiddie pool with this? Or do I need my hot cold first? I likely do.
Setting aside the perfect temp tag, I start focusing on the hot cold tag. I imagine a digital thermostat. Being able to go up and down. Except that's too modern. Then I think of the mercury thermostats. The ones that are glass with a thin strip, reading the sides of them. Then I remember the tall glass ones. Where they had globes filled with different liquids. Based on the temp the liquids would rise and lower. That seems a little too complicated for what I want though. A simple dial would likely work in this case. I don't want an offensive wand either so make it human tolerable. 85 degrees F to 105 degrees F. Fairly cool to very hot. Do I want it to expel water too? Make this a shower head?
That sounds like a good idea. I go to pick up the plain water bottle and start examining it. Seeing if I can find the enchantment. No such luck. Seems like I'll have to do this on my own. Can I make a double enchantment though? Seems like I'll have to try.
Or have two enchantments on it. Which I still can't do. I'm over ten levels away from being able to as well. The simple dial can be made of water, with how hot or cold you make it. It will be much harder to enchant. But I can try.
Picking up the empty tag of paper, I set too. The image in my head is the turn nob dial. One side is 85 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius. The other side set as 105 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius. The dial has waves of water coming from it. So, when mana is injected water will spout from it, at the temp set. Putting an arrow on it would be useless. So, I put a mana bar. They would need to control the mana as to where they want the temp.
This should work as I want, but I would need to put it on a shower head first to test it. I don't particularly want to carve a shower head, but I still have the caulk. And I would need to make a shower pan for people outside the dungeon. But that can be part of making the toilet too.
Can I just make a disperse enchantment? Not a pristine? Just vaporize anything that passes a certain layer? Not even dust remains? Make it disperse water? Or everything in the water? Or just water? Disperse water would work well. Not such much refuse. And then there would be more water to gather for the next shower.
Would have to make a separate enchantment for toilet then. To eliminate everything in the water. Well, everything organic at least. To make the disperse enchantment what would I think of? Spreading a lake over a salt flat comes to mind. The world's largest mirror for some reason. How it dries up every time and floods again. That would work. For the eliminate organic too actually.
Focusing on a new tag. Too disperse water you just have to make steam, but you don't want to heat this and burn someone. I think there was a way? If you increase the pressure? Dehumidify? I think that's how it works. Basically, I need a magic desiccant. That works near instantly. I think I can do that. Magic silica gel pack.
Think of the salt flats. The world's largest mirror once again comes to mind, how it floods then dries over and over. So, I start there. Drawing a bad oval, purposefully rough. I think of how it needs to be able to handle a flood of water and draw waves come in. Then draw them flat. Then draw smooth flats. Then connect them by arrows in a triangle. So, no matter how much water comes in it will always been absorbed and dispersed. Focusing on clouds above the flats I think about how the clouds will gather the water and move on. Just drift away. So, I draw a bad cloud. Then the motion for it going away. It seems like the right thing to do.
I won't test it until later, but I feel like it's right. Like this could be my shower basin. Maybe my toilet too. If I didn't mind it smelling. I'll think on that some more. A toilet needs to hold water. And only get rid of organic components. People shouldn't throw trash into the toilet. But they will. So, should I get rid of everything that goes into the toilet? I could, everything that's not water at least? People might use it to dispose of things they otherwise shouldn't though. But do I care? I likely should. But I won't. It's not my responsibility to prevent others from wrongdoing. The toilets will eliminate everything that's not water.
Now how to exclude water? How to eliminate everything? Eliminate makes me think of fire, or crematory. But that won't work. Acid maybe? That would work. Everything that touches the bottom touches the acid? What acid would work with water though? Or maybe just not have water? People would stick their fingers in. They will drop things in. But you have to insert mana to have the acid activate though? Then it will be replaced by water? So, have the acid be eliminated too? Or just eliminate everything then have water pour in? I could do that. It sounds like a better idea. If anyone drops anything they will have to get it themselves though. Will need a tank then too. And add water function, or it will smell. Then eliminate everything in the toilet.
So, what would eliminate everything? Flash freeze then burn? Hydrofluoric acid? Basically, dissolve everything and then flush it out. So, three enchantments for the toilet. One to dump water. One to dump acid. One to dissolve the acid. Or pristine the bucket of acid. It seems like a bad idea though. Maybe can only be used if toilet is closed? Need a better idea. Just vanish it? Banish it? Sound harry potter like. Banish it to between dimensions. Maybe not that far. Vanish sounds good though. One to vanish it one to dump water. Then a sink to wash hands. Not gonna provide soap though that's on them. They can use pristine if they want clean hands.
Credits to get into the bathroom and its set up to use ambient mana? or pay someone to take care of it? Or the person using it always need to use their own mana, and make no money off it? Now I'm thinking of setting up outhouses in the parking garage. Just toilet and showers, but sperate. With sinks outside. Need mana battery for those still though.
Maybe I can work on that too. But first. Vanishing enchantment. Then water drops. Water drops first. Grabbing an empty tag, it was quite simple after the shower tag. Simple measure of water to be dropped. I focused on how much water my buckets could hold. Then parsed it down to a single gallon of water. That should be more than enough. Thinking of a store bought gallon of water and exactly how much they weighed to me when I pick one up, I drew it out. When I was done I set it aside.
Now for the vanishing tag. To eliminate everything in a specific container. The set boundaries made by the container from bottom up. I focused on space for some reason, the vacuum. To vanish it there would be a vacuum. And it would vanish like it never existed. Drawing the bucket itself with the seat closed the icon for the enchantment would be on the inside just on the bottom. I would lay it in caulk though. This should be good enough for the toilet.
Looking at the tags I made for the day I sighed. It felt like a long day.
