Her stare wasn’t well received by Zeck, as in his eyes, he was that girls savor, she was obviously turning cold due to losing oxygen, and she should be thanking him if anything, while these thoughts were on Zeck’s mind, he realized that he was still holding her hand the situation was awkward, but even in this situation Zeck realized that her temperature is not going up whatsoever, he has never in his life seen anyone with such low natural body temperature, even with his tribe’s being low compared to the rest of humanities being in the range between 25-30 degrees celsius. He decided that whether the girl liked it or not it was his duty to get her to warm up, so he said in a slightly cracking voice:
* Hey, I understand that you don’t want to thank me, but at the very least let me help ya warm up, if your core temperature does not go up, you may die from hypho…hyphe, hypothermia, yes that’s the word, so try to follow me through the forest, I’ll try and go slow so you can keep up.
Luna was not sure what to make of this little boy trying to help her, as she quickly inspected him, she noted a couple of irregularities compared to the humans she used to know in her era, he had thick black hair, and large eyes, and a more or less smooth face free of ever having cried or any marks of seriousness, he was also quite thin, so thin in fact that he looked unnatural compared to what a normal human would look like even when they starve he had deep ocean-blue eyes, and his posture seemed incredibly mobile, as if he was always on edge to start an attack or run away. She understood that following him is a surefire way to get to a populated area faster, so that being her best choice she nodded and decided to follow Zeck.
As Luna had found out Zeck didn’t just seem incredibly agile, but she in fact was going through the forest with an about 30 degree incline as if it was as smooth as concrete, even tho he was incredibly fast going at about 20 km/h even after saying that he would go slow Luna being a fast runner herself could easily match the paste.
When they had gotten out of the forest Zeck looked back to make sure Luna was following him. As he saw that Luna successfully followed him, he made haste towards his and her mothers house, he quickly entered the house with Luna following him closely, Zeck again looked back and whispered:
* This is my and my mother’s place, so don’t make any rash moves, or you will get what’s coming for ya.
Luna nodded to that, and in the meanwhile inspected the house that they arrived at noting how it was built on a n incredibly stiff ground, that would probably better be called a wall, from this she had realized that this island is probably of a low population, since this kind of environment with the massive radioactive fish in the middle of the island could not be good for survival, she also noted in herself, that even so her calculations are probably right, the child he mad clearly coped with this since his birth and does not seem fazed about it whatsoever, this could possibly mean some mutations, or a special case of adaptive evolution. She was not sure if her theory was right or wrong, but she knew that the information she will get from this “less developed” looking tribe will not be complete of the time she has missed. With all this information spinning through her head in a fraction of a second she entered the house of Zeck.
Upon arrival Zeck greeted her mother:
* I have arrived mother; I will now make dinner for you from yesterday's catch okay?
* Hey Zeck glad to have you back, who is that woman behind you in the strange costume?
Zeck looked back at Luna and realized that her clothes looked like they were from a completely separate civilization; it seemed even more advanced in technology than the few tools they had received from Erik. It looked like a robe that perfectly followed her bodily curves, the color of it was mostly navy-blue, the belt on it was a dark brown ribbon. On her wrist it said: 01101100 01110101 01101110 01100001 , these numbers did not mean anything to Zeck, but it was still strange to see such an unorthodox tattoo.
After making all these inspections Zeck said to her mother:
Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.
* She is someone I found in the bottom of the lake, and her hand was incredibly cold so I decided to bring her here to heat her up. Don’t worry mother, I will take care of her.
Her mother had a strange look on her face, as she had a bizarre unspeakable past with outsiders, but she agreeingly stayed silent about it, and instead asked for a glass of water. Zeck immediately poured some water from the wooden barrel sitting at the corner of the room to a china cup and handed it to her mother who kindly smiled in return. Than he went outside with some firewood, and quickly ignited a small fire, he shouted back to Luna who was still standing in the entrance:
* Hey come here, you can warm up using the fire I just made for cooking.
Luna took one big leap and landed inside the fire, in this second of possible tragedy Zeck immediately grabbed her, and tried to get her out of the fire, after he successfully removed her from it, he went to her legs to inspect any possible damage, it would be easily visible since she was barefoot since they have met, but that was not strange on the island so Zeck didn’t even notice it as an irregularity. Upon seeing her legs being completely undamaged ZEck could not believe his eyes, he grabbed her leg to see if there was any trickery going on, and was even more surprised to find that her feet were still cold as steel. Zeck immediately asked Luna the question:
* What are you?
* I am the key to the sky.- Luna said automatically, as if she was programmed to answer that way.
Zeck did not understand what she meant by that, but it was obvious that she was important, and then an idea sparked in Zeck's brain: She could be a way for me to leave this island…
Realizing that Zeck turned his tone from interrogating to a comforting one, he asked Luna:
* Come to Vilm’s hut with me; we will ask for guidance.
While saying that out loud Zeck had realized that he had forgotten to collect the most important part of the youth-serum, in utter disappointment in himself he sighed as it was already too late to go for another dive since light anyway barely goes as deep as the giant fish, and without any light going that deep would be suicidal. As Luna realized that Zeck was having a problem, she quickly deduced from looking at the basket that Zeck was holding, he wanted that thingy on the fish’s back in the lake. She decided to help so she said:
* Leave it to me.
After that she just ran off into the night towards where the lake was, Zeck being incredibly intelligent and seeing how Luna looked at his basket before running off realized that she was going to the lake, and immediately ran after her to stop her from something so dangerous and possibly lethal. When he reached the lake following the slight imprints of Luna's feet on the ground he was just barely able to see as Luna jumped into the lake, and shouted after her but to no avail.
A minute has passed.
Two.
Five.
Ten minutes had passed, in this amount of time Zeck normally had already came back to the surface, just as Zeck was starting to give up on his new way of leaving the village and thinking of going back to his house Luna jumped out of the water, in her arms there was a great amount of the material he needed, as she shook her hair to get rid of the water stuck on it Zeck ran up to her, and hugged her with enthusiasm thanking her both for not dying and the medicine she brought. The amount of medicine she brought up was not only enough for Vilm, but he could also put some away to give to his mother when she needed it.
Luna realized that what she has done may have been even better of an act than what she thought it was.
As Zeck stopped clinging to Luna and awkwardly tossed her away with little power, he had a slight grin on his face and said:
* Now we really may go to Vilm’s place. Thank you…
Luna nodded agreeingly.
They made their way back to where they had left the basket of the rest of the resources Zeck collected.
