Prologue: A History

Prologue: A History

Have you ever heard of the brief Age of Humanity? The story goes that it was the earth dragon king, Cassini, who first proposed the Tetrarchy following the end of the Ring Wars between the dragon clans. Thus, the victorious Ladon Empire was carved in half for the sake of "greater administrative convenience," while the Ladon dragons began to rebuild their kingdom. Claiming the western capital, Encleadus, as his own, Cassini and his junior oversaw the birth of what we have come to know as Western Ladon. Although halving the empire may have seemed like a brilliant way to ease the stress of the empire's massive borders at first, the cracks in Cassini's plan soon began to show.

While the lands of the Eastern Ladon Empire were mostly rugged and rural earthes abundant with resources and natural beauty, the western empire's geography was far more urbanized, boasting hundreds of trading cities and star harbors. Suddenly, without the burden of the east, the western empire was free to focus solely on salvaging its already existing infrastructure, prioritizing tributaries and internal trade over external cooperation between the two halves. In the end, with its remaining military halved and its economy cut off from the coffers of the western trade cities, it woildn't be long before the territories of the eastern empire fell into a state of chaos.

Civil wars and political coups became commonplace among the "west born," dragon generals as opposing ideals for the economy and personal investments sparked constant bloody clashes. Meanwhile, their armies' rank and staff became increasingly reliant on the support of "east born," human militias and half-dragon "creole" sellswords, as the eastern empire's armed forces suffered constant budget cuts and influx due to the turmoil. Ultimately, while the dragons would continue to rule over their human subjects within the borders of Ladon, the dreams of their eastern brethren would come to be buried six feet under the western heavens as the earthen hells of the east would claimed and reclaimed by the blood of many different tribes of men in the war torn dawn of humanity.
