[17.1] Lore. Author Note & LORE.

Well since I need to write something before it can be published here is a lore idea for Dungunes that I haven't finished thinking through yet but have been working on and off on for the past little while.

== Dungeons ==

Of all known monsters and mythical creatures dungeons are one of the most important and least understood. To make matters even more complex dungeons seem to vary significantly, where one dungeon might be a hundred of floored tower filled with monsters the next might be a single large maze. Moreover, dungeons can come in many shapes and sizes, be it as a tower, hole in the ground, some spatial rift or some other form.

The vast majority of dungeons have a theme and/or setting that is consistant throught the dungeon. And people theorise that those who don't have themes such as chaos.

While the exact details of dungeon eating habits is still a mystery, dungeons feed off aether and the cuticle and albumen parts of souls. It hypothisised that they often encourage creatures to enter and sometimes die in their deapths so that they can learn new things from the creatures, thereby alowing the dungeon to create stronger monsters and traps to defend themselves.

Most dungeons absorbe anything left unattended in itself. Sometimes dungeons will absorbe the corpes of its monsters and some even replaceing the corpes with a "drop" of somekind be it something from the creatures corpes, some coins or soemthing else.

-- Core --

Dungeons contain a core that could be compared to its brain. Dungeon cores are hypothisised to be similar in sturucture, function and mabye even orign to monster cores. In particular the cores of nucleus based monsters such as slimes share obivous similarties to dungeon cores. Howeaver these hypothsis have never been proven or for that matter disproven by any reputable source. Like monstor cores, dungeon cores vary in size shape and colour but are most often spherical. Like nucleus based monsters, the core of a dungeon is weak point and if destroyed its body will soon collapse. Some dungeons have been known to create fake cores.

-- Walls & Paths --

It is a comonly agreed upon idea that while liches and dragons might masters of spell casting and mana control, dungeons are deeply conected to the more ancient and primordial aspects of magic, capable of wilding magic so naturaly its virtually indistinguishable from nature.

Maybe its because of this deep conection that dungeons are able do things no archmage could even conceive of from creating pocket dimentions in the middle of spatial rifts to creating fake souls. But perhaps dungeon walls are their most impressive creation.

Dungeon walls are made of layers of firmament, something which as close to indestructible as you can get. The only known casees of dungeon walls being broken can be counted on one hand and in every case the wall healed within a few seconds. Moreover there has been no recorded dungeon walls older then a year being broken.

However due to the nature of these walls, the fate magic that upholds them and the aether consuming nature of dungeons, every dungeon contains paths.

These paths are paths through the dungeon that must have one that eventualy leads to the dungon core. These paths must be in theiory transversable by the non-dungeon creatures in the sraounding areas.

To be clear not all walls in a dungeon are necessarily dungeon walls and likewise not all paths in a dungeon are transversable.

-- Areas --

Dungeons can be dived into various sections and subsections. These sections and subsections are refured to as themes, floors, areas, and rooms respevliy. These sections and subsections are generaly seen as variations on the basic areas. The exact control that dungeons can exert over areas that contain delvers is unknown and probobly vairs from dungeon to dungeon however, the control they can exert is certainly limited in comparsion to the seeming omnitiance they seem to exert when delvers aren't there.

- Theme -

While not all dungeons have themes although most that have ten or more floors due. Themes are collections of five or more floors (typically ten) which have a shared theme. Typically the floor boss of the final floor in a set of themes is significantly stronger then a typical floor boss. These bosses are called "theme bosses" or "elite bosses".

- Floor -

Dungeon floors are often quite literally the floors of a dungeon. However in some cases the floors of a dungeon can be more complex such as one being inside the next. Floors are typically made up of one or more areas.

However the first floor people enter when they enter the dungeon is refured to as "the first floor" and people count up the closer you get the core. This might be beucase as dungeons grow they push floor out, or more acrutly move their core away from older and weaker floors and into their newer and stronger floors.

The higher the floor's number the higher the aether density on the floor. And the higher the aether density the stronger the dungeon can make the floor and its inhabitants.

Aether floors in through the dungeon's entrence before being brought through the floors to the dungeon core in such a way that even an archmage can't track it true flow.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

Between floors there are choke points which alow for the creation of "floor bosses" sometimes just called "bosses" although not all dungeons have floor bosses on every floor.

Finaly the aether will make its way to the core where the core will consuming, filter and use the aether before sending it back out.

Like dungeons, dungeon floors can come in many shapes and sizes although normally they get biger and more complex the closer they are to the core. Moreover, while dungeons typically have at least one or two if not more floors with phsical locations latter floors are often partially or even completly in the Void.

- Area -

Dungeon areas are areas within a dungeon such as a forest, maze, cave system or something completely different. Areas can contain any number of monstors and up to one "Area Boss" which is also know as a "Mini-Boss". Dungeon areas are often comprised of rooms.

- Room -

Dungeon rooms are just that rooms (although technicly halways are considered dungeon rooms). These rooms often contain one chalanage each such as a group of monstors or a puzzle.

-- Inhabitants --

Dungeon inhabitants realy if ever leave a dungeon of their own free will. Many can't even servive outisde of the dungeon dieing soon after. However in a rare event called a dungeon brake some types of dungeons can send out an army of monsters if they haven't been cleared resently.

- Dungeon Master -

Dungeon masters are creatures, usaly non-dungeon creatures that parterner with a dungeon, the exact power dynamic of this parternership differs from dungeron to dungeon. Usally this parternership takes place between younger less intelgent dungeons and smarter creatures. Dungeon masters obtain partial control over their dungeon and usaly help less intelgent dungeons with thinking and planing.

- Monster -

Dungeon monsters are artificl lifeforms created by a dungeon. While some dungeon monsters exibit intelegence, their souls and conciseness are part of the dungeon's greater whole. Therefore when a dungeon monster dies they don't die in the same way, often reaparing soon after eaxtly the same or slightly difrent, sometimes even with memories of their death.

Dungeon monsters are can be compared to bacteria or mabye cells, however they usaly function as defenders of the dungeon and are the most comen chalange to any delvers.

Dungeon monsters can be separated into three categories, normal monsters, roaming monsters and elite monsters. While normal monsters are just that, normal monsters.

Roaming Monster

Roaming monsters are normal or elite monsters that can roam throughout the dungeon. Sometimes this means traveling from room to room while sometimes roaming monsters can even transvers floors. Often roaming monsters won't respawn after beeing killed, and the few that do normaly take much longer.

Elite Monster

Elite monsters are monsters that are stronger then usual monsters of their kind for the floor they apear on but not quite strong enough or important enough to be considered bosses. Elite monsters are often also more intelligent and unique than normal monsters. Likewise they also normally give better awards when defeated. Elite monsters take noticibly longer to respawn than normal monsters but not quite as long as roaming monsters.

- Boss -

Dungeon bosses are monsters that like elite monsters are significantly stronger then the usual monsters of their kind for the floor. They are also more intelligent and unique than normal monsters. Most bosses also have the unquie feature that they must be cleared to pass moveonwards. Although their clear conditions are not always to simply kill them although in almost all cases killing them will also work.

Dungeon bosses are always the strongest creature in thier domain, (the area they guard) exluding roaming monsters and delvers and they can be devided into five categories based on their domain, the final boss, roaming bosses, theme bosses also known as elite bosses, floor bosses normaly just refured to as bosses, and finaly area bosses which are sometimes refured to as mini-bosses.

Final Boss

Final bosses are the final defender of the dungeon core. They are without question the strongest creature in any given dungeon other than maybe the core itself and the odd dungeon master; as they have no upper limit on their power. Final bosses are most often placed in the core room or right before it as a last layer of defence. Final Bosses are not usaly meant to be defeated.

Roaming Boss

Roaming bosses are the equivlent of roaming monsters since they are the one type of boss that can frealy travel through the dungeon. Sometimes this means traveling from room to room or area to area while other times roaming bosses can go from floor to floor. Often roaming bosses won't respawn after being killed, and the few that do normaly take much longer.

Theme Boss (Elite Boss)

While roaming bosses are the equivlent of roaming monsters, theme bosses are the boss equivlent of elite monsters. Being even more intelligent and unique than floor bosses and likewise give better awards when defeated. Theme bosses are basicly always the final boss of a theme and sometimes take longer to respawn that floor bosses.

Floor Boss (Boss)

Floor bosses are the most well known and iconic type of boss. They are normaly considered the final challange of the floor they are placed on, however they normaly don't take longer to respawn than normal monsters although how long that is will vary from dungeon to dungeon.

Area Boss (Mini-Boss)

Area bosses are arguably the least common type of boss since they only ever appear on floors that are large enought to contain more than one sizeable area. While area bosses are also the weakes type of boss often walking the line between elite monster and boss. Area bosses change vastly from area boss to area boss often reflecting the area they guard.

- Non-Monster -

Non-monster are non-combatiant inhabitants of a dungeon. They can be devided into three broadly categories based on the role they play, drones, NPCs and other.

What are you talking about all those spelling errors are totally just because this is a page from some discarded notes of a dude and not because I am too lazy to go through and correct my own spelling.

And with that, I not only gave some lore but also a hint at a large revival later on in the story. Let's see if anyone can guess what that is!
