“System, open the store.” Silver said after a moment.
-Store-
[Browse Categories: Weapons | Armor | Vehicles | Training | Life Starts | *NEW CATEGORY* Miscellaneous]
“System, give me an overview of the new category.” Silver ordered, he figured it would be wise to explore all his options.
[Request determined to be within acceptable bounds]
[Miscellaneous Overview: Stemming from a passive analysis of the host, the system has created a new category. The function of this category is to provide options that could not fall under existing categories. Primary examples include (not limited to those listed), Mental restructuring, semi-limited body customization, and temporary enhancements.]
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“Can I afford anything within? What would you recommend?” Silver asked, feeling genuinely curious. This was an entirely fresh path for him to venture.
[Request is within acceptable bounds. Processing…]
[Recommendation: System advises Host to purchase Mental Reinforcement Tier I using 1 EP.]
“While I can see this being a useful acquisition, I am uncertain if I could invest my points better elsewhere.” Silver reasoned both to the system and to himself. The system did not respond.
Silver spent some time browsing through the categories to ensure he wasn’t missing a vital acquisition or potentially a useful sale. Eventually he narrowed his options down to three essentials. Unfortunately, he could only gain one.
[Mental Reinforcement Tier I]. The system recommended this itself, and Silver as well could understand its value. In a galaxy full of horrors and war, having a steadfast mind would serve him well.
[Inventory Tier I]. As Silver understood it was like the RPG’s of his original world. His memories had grown fainter, borderline fragmented from experiencing countless deaths, yet he could still remember its use. Having what is essentially a pocket dimension at your fingertips would be useful in his endeavors.
His last option was not even within his current budget, rather it was something he would save up to gain within a hopefully fast amount of time. The issue was whether he wanted to save now or put it off for later.
The option was [Life Start: Scout Marine]. This would be a considerable improvement compared to his life as a guardsman. Starting life using such a scenario would directly skip the selection and gene-seed implantation process, joining the ranks of one of the various space marine chapters scout marines.
It was a risk… and a pricey one at that. It required five existence points to purchase. Ultimately, Silver discarded this choice, opting to return to it at a later date… a later life.
Thus only two choices remained. While Silver found himself tempted to follow the system’s advice, he also believed he should endeavor to make his own decisions.
Something about an inventory screamed usefulness to him. Even if its tier would limit it, an ability like that just might make the difference in a key moment.
As a result, Silver opted to purchase the first tier of the inventory. He hoped he could earn enough existence points in his next life to gain the system’s recommendation.
[Purchased: [Inventory Tier I] You now have access to one cubic meter of the inventory pocket dimension. You may retrieve items that fit within this constraint with a thought-command and deposit items via touching them and giving a mental order to store the item.]
