The broken-down house was abandoned as the room was dark.
Silver concentrated and held his breath as he took the bullet out of his shoulder with his hand and rolled the bullet on the floor.
Now that one was down. Next, it was time to cauterise his wound. The last time he did, this caused him to have a massive infection on his back because he cooked the damn tissue too much than it needed to.
This time, he would be more cautious.
The issue was that he needed a stainless steel knife to cauterise it, and each knife was tarnished. He instead held a flat, broken wood stick he found and lit it on fire. It wasn't the best, but he had no choice.
Silver felt a bead of hot sweat rolling down his cheek as he took another hiatus. He forced the burning stick onto his wound. Silver could hear his flesh froth as he fought the nauseating smell of burnt flesh.
It had this barbecue burnt beef smell to it.
He held it in for a few minutes before throwing the stick to the floor and examining his now-sealed wound. It looked much better than having a hole in his shoulder. He rolled his shoulder as he could feel the soreness.
He loosened Zassia on his right arm, rolled it around his shoulder where it had been seared, and sealed it tight. He rose from the floor that hadn't been scrubbed clean for decades, taking his tunic on the bed.
So far, Silver doesn't seem to have the slightest idea about Flemonia and Emma's issue. Flemonia wanted him to kill—the word 'kill' was a bit far-fetched. She wanted him to end Luda's men from chasing her.
He could do that, but to do that, he needed to kill Luda and his men, so the word 'kill' was not so far-fetched after all.
Silver cannot do this mission without Luda's information on his whereabouts. He needed to find his location and kill him.
He heard of Luda somewhere in his childhood. It was said that he hid in a high mountain where the endless cloud roamed. She once told the man could foretell hours into the future within a second.
But it came at a cost. It took his sane mind. Luda died with a rotten mind in the end. Now, someone in this world took his name.
Silver wore over his cloak and took out a silver band di-head. He wore it on his left arm and held out a translucent orb. He rolled it between his fingers and inserted fire and metal ethern into each centre stone until he heard a dull click. Once it made contact with his skin, he waved his cloak over it.
Silver walked out of the room and into the living to find Flemonia sleeping on her chair. He frowned and slammed the door behind him. Flemonia shook her head at Silver as she cleaned her mouth. "Y-Yes? S-Silver?"
Her blond hair was dishevelled, and her white dress was covered in dirt and blood. She knelt her head back down. "Silver…I need to rest…I haven't rest…"
Silver laid his hand on the hilt of his sword as he leaned on the window to watch for officers. There was no one there. "We need to be on watch, not doze on a chair, Flemonia. We don't want to be ambushed now, don't we?"
Flemonia bobbed her head and returned to dozing on her chair.
Silver smiled as he turned and walked into the kitchen. He looked over at the sink and lifted the handle. He chuckled the moment he saw clean water running out. For once, clean water, unlike the slum.
He turned to look over to Flemonia and back, there was no cloth. Silver took his cloak, tore it a little bit off, and soaked it with water. "Here." He handed it to Flemonia. "Clean the dirt and blood off."
Flemonia lifted her head, looking tired. She bobbed her head and took it. She rubbed her face with the wet cloth. She lowered her hand to reveal her clean face, but he noticed the slight bruises on her neck.
Flemonia blushed as she continued to clean her face.
Silver turned in a different direction and faced the window as he scrutinised the bruises on her neck. He remained silent as Flemonia did the same. He didn't know her and didn't have much to talk about.
Then a thought rose in his mind, and Silver remembered and said. "Flemonia. Your father, Duke Winston. Tell me. How was he able to hire an Enforcer?"
Flemonia scratched her neck as she leaned back on her chair. "I do not know much about that. Father…likes to hide information from me. I once saw them beside father, and I asked him about it. He told me that he hired them from a man named Governor Ash for a mission. That's all I know."
Silver frowned and turned to Flemonia. "So it is true." He said with little astonishment in his voice. "King Walker and the World Order, no doubt, did have an alliance." He didn't like the thought of that.
But Governor Ash…
He leaned back, feeling irritated about it. "You should have told me that the two were buddies. I thought it was King Walker and the Luda we were dealing with here, not the World Order, Flemonia."
She looked offended as she laid down the cloth on the table. "Silver, don't blame me for this. I thought you knew about it. It happened seven years ago."
Seven?! Silver exhaled and let out a curse. Well, she was right about that. He should have known. But. "What about Emma…is she with us?"
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"What do you mean?"
Silver looked back at the window and touched his sword. "Is she with us and nota—" He clicked his tongue and held back his sword as Emma walked through the door with her cloak fluttering behind her back.
She furrowed her brow at Silver before looking at Flemonia. "Here are some clothes I bought from the store, Flemonia." Then she turned and handed Silver a map. "The latest version of Borofall this time—"
Silver took it out of her hand and Emma's hand. "Thanks for that. However, I would like to talk to you alone."
Emma took her hand back. "Flemonia changes while me and Silver talk…alone."
Flemonia did as she was told, rose from her chair, and entered the room. Silver loomed close to her face. "Your father is in an alliance with the damn World Order? You are the daughter of the King!"
"Yes? So what about it?"
"How can I trust that the daughter won't knife us in the back?"
Emma shoved him back and scowled. "I was deemed a traitor and a bastard from father. Look, I'm wanted." She held it out, showing a face that seemed to be in her twenties with a reward under her name. "I've been on the hunt for more than a decade, Silver."
Silver froze as he heard on the news about a woman on the run. He only knew because the news described her as having red hair. "I apologise for that, Emma. There is too much shit now that I have been out of hiding."
Emma shook her head. "No need. But if you ask me about the reason for their alliance, I do not know. But I do know my father wants me dead."
"And Flemonia, where did she go wrong?"
"To be honest, I don't know. I do know that she was accused of plotting to kill King Walker."
"What?"
"I know. She told me she overheard the King talking to Governor Ash about something I don't know. The information she heard must have been significant, but she refused to speak to me.
Information?
Silver nodded. "That is fine. Flemonoa is not the kind of woman to kill. She is innocent." He turned as Silver took out the chart of Borofall, rolled it out on the table, and then set the rock on each corner.
This, this was different. He sat down on a chair as he scanned Borofall. "This is not the same Borofall I once knew." He turned to Emma. "So our issue is that Luda's men are chasing us. Is that correct?"
Emma loomed beside him to see Borofall on the table. Her hair brushed his nose. "Yes. But Luda's men took orders from Governor Ash and King Walker."
Silver moved her hair and focused on Borofall. "Tie that hair, it irritated me, and no, that is not true. It is hard to discuss, so I will break it down." He held out his cigar underneath his cloak and lit it.
Emma cocked her head. "You can't be serious…"
Silver inhaled and let the white smoke roam free from his mouth. "Can't a man have a few of these before his death? Here, I have extra for those—fair enough then." He slid them back as he smiled.
He took his time as Emma fell on a chair beside him. "So." He said. "We have made three damn enemies in this continent, which makes us celebrities cause ain't no one in the entire world want the—"
"Good lord, Silver." She sighed. "Get to the point."
"Fine. Fine. I get to the point, okay?"
Silver laid his sword on the table and leaned back on his chair. "So here is the issue, we have three enemies after us. Of course, we have Luda's men and a few of Walker's men, which I can handle. The main issue is...."
He frowned at the thought of that. "King Walker and Governor Ash being together, I need time to consider them. We do not know the reason for their alliance, but I do know that the Governors are using Luda's men."
Emma waved her hand to brush the smoke from Silver. He turned to the window as he saw a bird fall on the windowsill. "Luda's men are known for assassinating politics—but they are also known for doing deals as long as the price is right. Do you understand?"
"I do."
Silver nodded. "Good. There is no need to find their intention for their unknown alliance—but we will soon find out. For now, we need to focus on Luda because he is an issue more than the other folks."
He exhaled as he threw the cigar behind. "Luda. He could see the future."
Emma rubbed her hand on the table. "That I know. He is the one that sees the future and informs the Governors and sends out the men."
Silver nodded. "That is right and that is an issue. No matter where we hide, he will always be watching. I doubt he could watch us now after he used his energy in the slum. He most likely rested before he could use it again."
Silver looked at the map, and everything changed. "For now, we must keep running until we find a plan to kill Luda."
Silver darted his finger at the town down south. "We are in the west. The further west is the dense forest. We shall hide there as we will traverse down through the forest down. In a week, we will be in Cane Town."
Emma raised her hand at Silver as she shook her head. "Oh, hell, man! Cane Town is full of baddies down there. There is a damn mad crime lord there. We are dead once we cross the border, so no, we are not."
Silver chuckled as he lowered her hand down. "Calm down, Emma. Cane…is an old friend of mine. He will understand our situation…I think."
Emma smacked his hand out of her and lowered on a chair with her arms crossed. "You think!?! This friend, Silver. You have not heard Cane's stories that the World Order would not even touch him! He first tortured then dismembered the hell outta them! Then sell the heart and liver in need!?!"
Emma looked at Silver as she looked closer to his face. "He is not the man we should mess or be with. I'm serious. Cane is..."
Emma fell back on her chair as she took a breather. She rubbed the side of her head in distress. She trembled. "You are nowhere near his level."
"You make it sound like you met the man."
"I have once, he is the kind of man you don't want to mess with."
Silver knew this friend of his from the battlefield. "True." It was an odd encounter, but he remembered him well. Silver aided his side until the end, and Cane vowed to assist him whenever he needed.
Now was the time.
Silver nodded as he assured her. "That is the kind of man, Emma. Cane is a businessman. He adored doing that kind of work, but we are going there for protection, so please understand what I'm doing. You hired me, after all."
Silver turned as the door clicked, and Flemonia left her room. She had a loose blue tunic and wore tight black trousers. Flemonia blushed as she touched her chest—he noticed she did not have a bra.
Flemonia touched her tunic as she looked around the room. "This is for men, Emma."
Emma tied her hair into a tail. "We are in disguise. It is better that way."
Silver nodded. "That is true. It is better to dress in different kinds of outfits occasionally. But we must move now."
"Now? So fast…" Flemonia said.
He nodded. "Now, before more men come after us." Silver rolled the map and handed it to Emma. "Alright, let us go."
Silver opened the door and walked toward his horse. He smiled as he brushed the horse and untied the rope. "Flemonia! Get over here! We are leaving." He watched as he saw her running toward him. "Take your time, little mouse."
Flemonia frowned. "Still calling me that?"
Silver lifted her on the horse. "Yes. Yes, I am." He mounted behind her as he saw Emma readied her horse.
Silver leaned forward and travelled down the street and into the forest. He turned and stared down the street for a long time. What was—
"What is it?" Flemonia turned her head around.
"Nothing—"
"Silver?" Emma shouted in the forest.
Silver turned his horse back into the forest. "It is late. Move…” No one was there, so he continued into the forest.
Silver was sure he felt an odd sensation down his back. The same sensation he had felt a decade ago—he shook his head and rode on forward.
