Swollen ears. “Why did you keep scratching your ears?”, Olivia yelled at Kiki. The first thing that she saw when she woke up – one of Kiki’s ears drooping downwards. It was swollen red. Kiki constantly flaps her ears with discomfort. It was an infection somewhere in the ears. When Olivia’s hand approaches the infected ear, Kiki turned aggressive and showed a menacing look that she would bite if anyone touched her bulged ear.

It was time for the vet. When they arrived, Dr. Ang was not on duty. She was a senior veterinarian, but she’s Kiki’s go-to veterinarian. She treated Kiki’s skin allergies since she was a puppy, and diagnosed her with kidney failure and high blood pressure. All these health conditions are signs of old age.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
It was Dr. Ng who was on duty at that time. “Do you monitor Kiki’s water consumption daily?”, he asked. Olivia did not monitor Kiki’s water intake; she only recalled that the bowl of water will be changed twice daily. This is an indicator of the worsening of kidney condition. After the consultation, Dr Ng brought Kiki to one of the internal rooms to perform the extraction of the blood discharge from the ears. He warned that the accumulation of blood discharge could prevail if the blood did not coagulate properly.
Olivia’s mother newly invented an ear wrapper using socks to apply compression onto Kiki’s ear. Why socks? It has some elasticity and being a used one, became the “ideal” one.
