The Orb (II)

The Orb

----------------------------------------

I woke inside a dream. My arms are open wide and wrapped around its lower half, my whole body supporting the glowing sphere. Holding it up with bent knees to absorb the mass, I couldn't feel it, but it looks warm and heavy. My breath is steady and deep as I feel the invisible weight of nothingness, bright with energy. I hold it stable with the full length of each upper appendage, all the way out to my fingertips. Smooth like the surface of rubber skin, I knew it was hot—more than warm and thick with matter—but I could sense nothing of it as I continued hugging the huge ball of muted light.

I needn’t carry it anywhere. This is just the right spot. It’s perfect. My feet are motionless and glued to the ground. They become absorbed into it, growing down like roots.

As my feet seeped in, my arms glided down, manifesting the orb as a weightless balloon I lifted it high above my head. With two hands wide and supporting the bottom of the yellow roundness, I looked up and straight into the depth of its concentrated energy. The ball was translucent, with orange clouds swirling inside.

The bottom opened, and the sphere poured out thick liquid light. At first I drank the viscous energy, then inhaled when it became particles and smoke, pellets of yellows and oranges vibrating with life and mind. I breathed it all in, sucking in deep lungs full of color. It kept emptying, dumping out like sand and falling like feathers. The entity above didn’t shrink in size. But once the contents were gone, consumed, the orb was simply no more. Yet it was everywhere throughout.
