The Sandmaw

The group was sitting in a tavern while the orc was searching for some fun to be had. Having seen a group of monster hunters leave the town as his group entered, he learned that there was a old man looking for a group to hunt down a dangerous beast that lived nearby. an alligator that could swim under the sand, and pop out anywhere and grab people in his inescapable jaws and tear them apart. The orc took up his offer and went back to the group to see who'd join him for his hunt, and most accepted, making a merry band of misfits heading out into the wild sands on the hunt for the accursed Sandmaw.

The group was comprised of two paladins, two mages, a warrior and a monk, plus the elderly hunter who guided them to the Sandmaw's last known location. They stumbled onto some ancient ruins, some rocks and shattered walls being the only thing sticking up above the sand. The group prepared themselves on what sturdy ground they could find, and lured in some weaker monsters, making enough sound to hopefully lure their intended prey into their trap.

Several large scorpions were the first to be lured in, and they were quickly torn apart by axe, spell and gun. Only a few minor injuries were sustained by the group, the orc paladin healing himself and the elderly hunter with them and they waited for the beast to show up. After a few hours of waiting, something did show up, although unluckily it wasn't only the Sandmaw that got lured, but a pair of colossal, lightning spitting worms as well.

The group split themselves to deal with the beasts, the mages and ranged attacking the worms while the paladins and hunter tackled old Sandmaw. The fight was tough, several severe injuries happening and even someone getting swallowed whole by one of the worms, but the group fought valiantly. The Sandmaw lost a leg and was crippled severely by the Orc yet the hunter met a quick and brutal end by not evading a chomp by the Sandmaw, instantly rolling and tearing the poor soul into smithereens.

While the death of the hunter was sad, the paladins pounced on the opening the beast's rolling opened and tore into it's scales, killing it was the same brutality it showed the hunter, and they rejoined the fight against the worms. They returned to a missing, engulfed elf chopping his way through the worm's insides while mages peppered the worms with their strongest spells, felling one and injuring the other, although the living one still held their fighter in it's stomach. The orc, with his usual hard hardheadedness, charged straight into the colossal worm and chopped it down like a tree, tearing into it's insides and literately dragging it's insides out of it's body, including the poor elf covered in blood, stomach acid, and gods know what else.

The fighting has left them all invigorated, and the scales and parts of all the monsters hear made a pretty penny back in town, although the sudden death of the rather humorous hunter left a sour note in their night. They were all able to get passed it though with a long night of drinking in the local tavern, leading to the monk going off into the dark night and once again, for like the third or fourth fucking time, waking up naked in a bed with some sort of animal. I think it was a rabbit that time but god damn the carousing table had a solid bead on what a blackout drunk halfling would do.
