Chapter 1: The New World named Earsyia

Chapter 1: The New World named Earsyia

Today was the same as before. Nothing had changed except for one thing, which was that I went to a seminar that never fails to put me to sleep. The seminar was titled "The Phenomenon of The End and Consequences". As I expected, the seminar only contained people who still liked to discuss the events of 5 years ago. The majority of those who came were parents and elderly people with canes and even wheelchairs.

"The next explanation will be given by my assistant, Rahl Hoff." A woman pointed at me from the main podium in the center of the room.

Just so you know, the reason I got stuck going to a super duper boring seminar was this woman. Her name was Alisha. A young scientist who was very interested in the phenomenon of the end. But it wasn't her intelligence or her title that made me go to this seminar, it was-

"Thank you, Professor Alisha. I will continue with the explanation," I said while looking at the file I was holding. "As Professor Alisha has explained, the world has changed into something that no human has ever imagined. The incident five years ago was the trigger. All forms of logic became inconsistent with the facts that existed before. So it is necessary to renew all the contents of the human life order. So the Great United Nation has been formed into a new medium to replace the collapsed United Nations...."

What I said at length was written in detail in the file I was holding. It was all the result of Professor Alisha's research over the past year. Those who heard it for the first time might be very interested. But for me - who had attended 20 seminars - it was very boring.

After the seminar was over, all the visitors began to leave one by one. I began to organize the files on the table and put them into my black bag.

Some people were still in front of Professor Alisha's desk. Judging from their clothes, they were probably people from the media and some students. But what did I care about? Right now, it was a good moment to stretch my body after that boring seminar.

I went outside to get some fresh air. Walking towards the lobby that I usually passed. All I saw in this lobby was a room filled with people dressed like Professor Alisha. It was an unsurprising sight. This building was called the Knowledge Center. The center of all knowledge. Maybe it would be more appropriate to call it a neo modern library.

I stood in the lobby for fifteen minutes while looking at the vending machine in front of me. I had no idea what to drink. All I saw on the machine were various brands and flavors. My saliva ran down my chin. I hurriedly wiped it off with my sleeve.

"Rahl!" The woman called out.

She was Alisha. The woman who dedicated herself to science. All for the sake of the world and becoming like the figure she idolized. I don't know exactly, but that figure was the one who had brought the world together at the same table. A figure that she respected greatly.

When she arrived in front of me, I just looked at her sarcastically. However, this look did not make her smile disappear.

I gave up on venting my unwarranted annoyance and greeted her first.

"Yo. Are you done?" I said while glancing at the vending machine.

" I did. Thank you very much for today, Rahl." There was a pause in her words, her lips smiling slyly as if she understood my main intention. "What would you like to drink, Rahl?"

JIAH!!! This was the spectacular moment I had been waiting for! Finally! Finally! I could choose what to drink!

It's free! Free! Free!

Imagine!

There was Dr. Coke, a soda drink for 1 Earsyia Dollar.

Pinky Strawberry, for 1.2 Earsyia Dollars.

Black Coffee 3000, for 1.5 Earsyia Dollars.

And the one I wanted the most was Chocolate Space, a chocolate-flavored soda drink for 2.0 Earsyia Dollars.

"Rahl...wipe that drool off first," Alisha interrupted.

Her words brought me back to reality.

"What do you want to order, Rahl? You've been gawking."

"I'll have one Chocolate Space."

Then Alisha took out of her wallet a card that is currently called an Account Card. It's like a debit or credit card except that all kinds of personal information needs are already listed on the card. For example, if in the past we had to have an identity card, driving license, student card, credit card and so on, then the Account Card already had all these functions. A 'super app' and a 'super card', they said. Pretty practical, right?

Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.

Alisha's index finger pressed a few buttons on the surface of the machine. Then put the card on the scanner.

"Thank you for shopping," said a very polite machine.

Yes. Finally my boredom paid off. Thank God.

"Eh?" I gawked at the bottle of drink Alisha thrust at me.

"You don't want it?" Alisha said.

"Eh? Alisha...didn't I order Chocolate Space earlier? Why 'this' instead. You know 'this'...,"

"Of course I know. This is Chocolate Space flavored natural mineral water straight from the mountains-"

It was destroyed. This world has been destroyed. After working so hard I only got mineral water. I couldn't listen to what Alisha was saying anymore. Everything became blurry. So blurry.

"Here!" While smiling, she pressed something on my cheek.

This sensation! No-no!

I saw it!

A real chocolate space! Inside and out!

I immediately opened the bottle and drank it. The sensation that flowed down my throat was so refreshing.

"Geez, Rahl. You're still like this. You should at least be able to earn your own food."

"You know yourself, Alisha. The world has changed. Even for the worse, you know?"

"Isn't it for the better? Where things start to look much more beautiful and really like a fantasy world, right? We should be grateful," she said while posing like a drama queen.

"For you. For me?" I said.

"You...Super Duper NEET."

"I'm not a NEET! I'm a job-hunter who's still traveling in search of his second identity."

"What's the difference with unemployment? You should be grateful that I gave you this job."

"You mean being an assistant in that boring seminar? Well...," I quickly drank the rest of the Choco Space and continued my speech. "Starting today I quit. And thank you for the treat."

I left Alisha. Without even looking back.

After leaving the Knowledge Center, I went straight to the Central Job next to it. As a Job-Hunter, of course this was the thing I had to do. With a Bachelor's degree in History, it should be easy for me to find a job.

I started looking for it from the first floor.

"Workers Wanted"

Main Requirements: Under 25 years old. Good looking. And not a normal human.

Seeing that last sentence. I already know, this wasn't for me.

"Oh ... only the first one. The second one yet...," I said to encourage myself.

Then I looked for the next one.

" Labor Wanted"

Main Requirements: Under 25 years old. Good looking. And an Esper.

"This is only the second one. Not the third...hahahaha." My encouraging words.

"Job vacancies available"

Main Requirements: Age below 24 years old. Good-looking to the max. And a half-human.

I kept looking and looking. But all of them still had the same requirement, which was 'not a normal human'. Why was I a normal human, anyway? Shit!

My search had reached the 5th floor. Looking around, the shop in front of me was probably the last shop on this floor. Sluggishly, I looked at the sign in front of the shop.

Job vacancies available.

Main Requirements: Age under 24 years old. Normal human.

Seeing the second sentence made my spirit flare up. I continued to read it.

Main Requirements: Age under 24 years old. Normal human being. Educated. Physically fit. And the most important of all was TRAP.

Like being electrocuted, I just gaped when I saw that last requirement.

A Trap? That would mean they need a man. How could this be? It was as if my mind and heart were deliberating with each other about this vacancy.

My mind said, "Take it. You can pretend to be a woman."

My heart replied, "Remember who you are! You're a real man, bro."

The mind replied, "No one knows you work here."

The heart reiterated, "Remember Rahl. If you go into that world, your future is grim."

The mind replied, "At least you can live and drink Chocolate Space every day, bro."

Damn! Why did I hesitate like this. Shit shit shit shit!

I was just petrified, thinking in vain.

Then with strengthened resolve, I opened the shop's door slowly.

"Sorry, my dear heart. I chose my stomach over my identity," I muttered. "Good luck-"

Suddenly, the shop in front of me was blown apart by an explosion that I had no idea where it came from. The explosion sent me flying out of the store. While trying to stand up, I saw a man dressed like a wizard. No way!

Suddenly, a familiar siren sounded. This had to be the Great Association.

Damn when I had made a difficult choice in my life.

Why... oh why?!

The man quickly came to me. Then in his hand appeared a large ball of fire.

He said, "Hey. Say goodbye to your world."

Deep down, this was probably for the best. Yes, it was. Instead of me living like this.

"Mr. Wizard, please kill me," I exclaimed with great politeness.

"Ha? Interesting. I'll grant your request."

The fireball soon became very large and hot. I could only close my eyes. Feeling this hot sensation, I would have turned to ashes instantly.

However, the heat sensation disappeared. I tried to open my eyes. Now what I saw was the back of someone I was familiar with on television.

I gritted my teeth.

"Damn you!"

The man in front turned his head when he heard my shout.

Then without further ado, I punched him in the face. He was knocked backward.

"What have you done, damn it? I was about to die and now you save me? You think you're so great, huh?" In an emotional state I continued to scold him. And... I already knew the result.

I was put into a detention center. Charged with hitting one of the famous heroes.

I could only stare at the ground. Remembering what had happened.

What a shitty world.

Earsyia. A world that didn't bring me any luck. Just for being a normal human, I couldn't get a job anywhere.

They always said, "Why would I hire a normal human like you, when I can hire a witch, and it's even cheaper to run than a robot." Similar statements were often heard when I was rejected.

It was really annoying.

My days weren't any better than before. In fact, it got worse because I was just an ordinary human being.

Maybe if I were a writer, I would make a book about this world that I would title "Shitty World and Heroes".

I became a writer? Seriously. A hopeless person like me should disappear into history.
