"The demon arrow train has reached their first stop: Demon School Cerberus Castle. I repeat, the demon arrow train has reached their first stop: Demon School Cerberus Castle. The demon arrow train will stay in this stop for 15 minutes before departing for their next destination."
The message was being broadcasted in the whole train, students began to flood the hallways getting off the train.
"Looks like you are finally arrived, but why aren't you leaving?"
"Because all the students and other demons are getting off the train at the same time, the hallways will be super cramped and I don't want to feel like I'm inside a tuna can."
"I see, after all you have 15 minutes of time to get off."
Shiraki was sitting on the sofa wearing her uniform with her luggage next to her, Bahamut was sitting next to Shiraki on her other side.
"I thank you for the hospitality, Bahamut-sama."
Shiraki got off the sofa and walked to the entrance of the cabin, she wore her shoes back and stretched a bit.
"You are welcome, I hope we'll meet again soon."
"Likewise, goodbye for now Bahamut-sama."
Shiraki bowed to Bahamut which waved at her, with most of the passengers off the train Shiraki left as well.
Right after Shiraki got off the train all the exits closed at the same time, now ready to depart the demon arrow train went on to their next destination.
"And there it goes, I just hope that being among the last ones to leave the train won't delay things too much."
"First years come here! First year students that need to finish their enrolment procedures follow this line! Follow the red-winged eyes line till the offices and wait in line!"
A student was standing on a stool holding a sign with 'New students here' written on it, with an arrow pointing at the exit at his right. Seeing all students going toward the exit, Shiraki began to follow the flow of students, while the student on the stool kept repeating the instructions.
Following the flow Shiraki took the stairs going to the upper floor, when she finally reached the line to finish her enrollment her jaw dropped at the sight of how long the line was: an insane number of students was there, almost enough to fill the entire room, Shiraki was among the last students of the line.
"Are you kidding me right? It'll take forever..."
Shiraki sighed deeply as she joined the line, the thought of waiting on such long line for so many hours made her lowering her ears.
The room had a total of 6 offices for the enrolment procedures, at the head of the line a demon was sending the students toward the offices when they were available, each office was taking one student at time. The procedures weren't that fast making the line's progress really slow, as the students were waiting in line they were often offered food and drinks from the staff.
The hours passed and after 5 hours of wait, it was finally Shiraki's turn.
"Go to the office number 1, the office worker finalizing your enrolment will be Dhelia Ulras."
"Thanks."
The demon at the head of the line told Shiraki in which office to go and who was in charge of that office, then pointed the office where Shiraki needed to go. Shiraki walked toward the office finding the door already open.
"Please enter, close the door and leave your luggage next to the door."
"Sure."
Shiraki did as the demon told her and entered the office, she closed the door and left her luggage next to it. The office was a regular office with nothing special on it, shelves stacked with documents, a desk filled with documents and a PC to work with, nothing different from an office in the human world.
"Please take a sit."
"Thank you."
2 chairs were in front of the desk, Shiraki sat on the one on the left in order to see the demon in the face.
"My name is Dhelia Ulras and I'll take care of your enrollment. You'll be studying here as a first year student, you'll get your own dorm room and you'll be able to use the school services for all your needs. I see your grandpa submitted the documents for your enrollment from his side, are you a human-demon hybrid?"
"Yes I am, my Jichan submitted the documents months ago without telling me, I have no idea what kind of documents he submitted."
"I see, I'll get them for you and give you an explanation, you'll also have to sign them as well before signing the ones you have yet to sign."
Dhelia got up from her chair and turned toward the cabinet behind her chair, after opening it she began to search for Shiraki's documents, once found Dhelia took them out and placed them on her desk.
"Here they are."
Dhelia closed the cabinet and sat on her chair, she removed the document band from them and took the first documents out.
"Since you come from the human world you'll be staying here in the Demon World in the dorms of the school. A dorm room will be assigned to you and it'll be yours till you'll graduate, you can think it as your home for the next years. Your grandpa went all-in with your room, turning a simple door room into a full apartment. Your dorm room comes with a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, and even a 'japanese bathroom', we tried our best trying to make one following your grandpa's instruction but some changes couldn't be made, so it won't exactly be a japanese bathroom."
"How did my Jichan turned my room into that?"
"He simply paid for them. Customizing your dorm room costs money, if you want to have your room with everything you want you gotta pay the modifications of the room, but most of the times only children of wealthy families will customize their room. Other students turned their dorm rooms into apartments like yours, and they all come from big families. A normal dorm room only has a bedroom and a bathroom, they are pretty compact but not cramped. If everything is clear please sign those documents."
Dhelia passed Shiraki the documents regarding her dorm room, Shiraki signed them and gave them back to Dhelia.
"Now, after the customization of your room, your grandpa also paid the canteen and shop's fees for the next 3 years, you won't need to renew them unless you'll won't pass a year."
"What kind of fees are them? Are they something particular like the room?"
"No they aren't, they are something pretty common for all the students that come from abroad, be them from the Demon World or any other world. The school has a canteen located in the main building, there you'll be able to eat whatever you'll want whenever you'll want, but you can also go there for your meals like breakfast and lunch. The canteen features both cooking from the Demon World and other worlds, you'll simply have to choose when you'll go to the canteen. Normally you would pay for your meals, by paying the fee you won't need to pay a cent for your meals."
Done with the explanation of the fee Dhelia passed Shiraki the documents of the first fee.
"The shop fee is like the canteen fee, but for everything you want to buy at the school's shop. The school has a big shop once again located inside the main building, there you can shop everything from writing materials to groceries and much more. By paying the fee you can take whatever you want and pay nothing, but you still need to go to the cash desk just like any shop or market."
Dhelia gave Shiraki the documents about the second fee.
"Those fees sure come in hand, especially when you come from another world."
"Yes they are, but they weren't made for the students from the other worlds like you. Those fees are mostly paid by families that don't live in the city or they send their children to study from other states. Of course those aren't limited to people outside the city, even those that live inside the city can pay the fees and stay in dorms, it's just a matter of convenience."
Shiraki signed the last documents and gave them to Dhelia, after collecting the fee's documents Dhelia gave her a document to fill out.
"With those documents we are done with the ones your grandpa sent, now it's time to sign your side of the documents. The one I just gave you is the document for your weapon, write down the measures, its name if it has one, the type of weapon and everything else, meanwhile I'll get your documents to fill out."
Shiraki began to fill out the document about her weapon, writing everything from its type, colors, measures and much more. As she was filling the documents, Dhelia found the remaining documents and handed them to Shiraki.
"If you'll have any doubts let me know."
"Sure."
With all the documents on the desk, Shiraki was carefully reading them and filling them out, with all those documents to fill out she now understood why the line was so slow.
After some minutes Shiraki finished filling out all the documents, she handed them to Dhelia and she placed them on the desk. Dhelia pressed a button on the phone she had next to her PC and gathered all Shiraki's documents inside a folder, a colleague entered the office shortly after and Dhelia gave her the folder. With the documents on her hand the colleague left the office closing the door.
"All the documents are ready now, now we just need them to officialize them and we'll be able to give you your student ID."
"What's that?"
"Your student ID contains all your personal data, documents, permits, bonuses and similar. When you'll go shop at the school's store or eat a meal in the canteen, you'll have to show your student ID first, they'll check it out and see if you paid the fees or you'll have to pay with your money. Your student ID is like the ID you have in the human world, remember to always bring it with you and show it when asked, when you'll get assigned your class and other things, the ID will update automatically without problems."
"I see, how about my dorm room?"
"When my colleague will come back with the officialized documents I'll give you everything, your student ID and your dorm location, we just need to wait a little time."
"Mh..."
Dhelia answered to Shiraki's last question, and silence began to fill the room. Shiraki was awkwardly looking around the room while Dhelia was sorting other documents.
"Have you ever been in the Demon World?"
Dhelia asked Shiraki since she was done with the documents she had at hand.
"No never, it's my first time coming here."
"I see, you probably have already noticed how the air changed from the human world, but there are still a lot of things you have yet to see. Let's start with the sky, we are at the ground floor now so why don't you come here and open the window behind me? I bet the sky of the Demon World will leave you speechless."
"Is it really that different?"
"Come and see it with your own eyes."
Behind Dhelia there was a big window covered by a curtain, the cabinet was under the window and it fit perfectly under it. Curious about the sky, Shiraki decided to follow Dhelia's advice and stood up from the chair going toward the window, meanwhile Dhelia was moving the curtains out of Shiraki's way.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Shiraki opened the window and stuck her head out of it looking at the sky: the night sky wasn't pitch black like the human world, it was of a purple color filled with stars and clouds of a dark purple instead. Upon raising her head some more Shiraki was able to look the moon of the Demon World: a moon shining of his own light up in the night sky, its light was white with a light purple hue all around it.
"Wow..."
Shiraki was speechless, she never saw a night sky as beautiful as the one she was looking at in that moment. The stars, the sky, the moon, everything in that sky was too beautiful to be true.
"Do you like the night sky? Wait till you'll see the morning sky, it may not give the same effect but it'll still be a beauty to look at."
While Shiraki kept staring at the night sky, Dhelia's colleague come back with the officialized documents, she left them on the desk and left the office.
"Shiraki would you mind going back to your seat please? Your documents have been officialized, I'll now proceed to make your student ID."
"A-Ah yes sure."
Shiraki went back to her seat and looked at the documents, they were inside an envelope closed with a red seal. Dhelia opened the envelope and took out the documents leaving them on the desk, from all the documents she handed to her colleague only a few came back.
Together with the documents Dhelia took out what looked like some kind of card as well, she moved the card next to the documents and placed one hand on top of them. Dhelia's hand began to get surrounded by a purple energy, the documents and the card got surrounded as well as Dhelia raised her hand. The words from the documents began to fly away from the papers landing on the card, as the words were disappearing from the documents they were appearing on the card, as if they were being written in that moment.
In a minute all the words from the documents flew into the card, the purple energy disappeared and Dhelia handed Shiraki the card.
"Here you go, this is your student ID,"
"What did you do?"
"After documents gets officialized the originals gets archived, using magic they create those documents that contain all the information of the originals, with demonic energy the information of the magical copies are transferred into the student ID. The ID shows only important information such as personal data like your name, date of birth and similar, all the rest is inside the ID."
Shiraki took the student ID and put it in her pocket.
"Your dorm room is the number 284 in the first building, and take this."
Dhelia handed Shiraki a folded piece of paper, on a closer look it turned out to be a map.
"This is the map of the school, this school is huge with all his structures and places, it's easy to get lost if you are new. As soon you leave my office turn left and go straight till you'll find the exit of the building, from there go straight all the way till you'll arrive to the dorm buildings, use the map to help yourself. For any further questions come looking for me, I'll be happy to help you".
"Thanks a lot."
Shiraki spent a couple of minutes talking with Dhelia before bowing to her and take her leave, she grabbed her luggage once more and left her office. Following Dhelia's guidance Shiraki left the office building and was now inside the school's ground, streetlights on the sides of the road were helping to see the path toward the buildings.
"It looks huge indeed."
Shiraki began to walk toward the dorm's building, from the little she could see it was like walking inside a park. benches on the sides of the road, streetlights, grass and trees everywhere, she felt like she was taking a stroll in the park at night.
Before leaving Dhelia's office, Shiraki asked some further question on how to reach the dorms, as she was walking towards them Shiraki was remembering what she got told by Dhelia.
"This is the map of the school, as you can see it's huge with a lot of buildings and green areas. We are currently in the side office on the west side of the school, in order to reach the dorm building you'll need to reach the east side of the school, right here. It's a straight walk from one side to the other, around 15 or 20 minutes of walking. In the middle of the 2 sides you'll come across the main building, where the canteen, the school's shop and many more things are located. In your path you'll find the fountain that stands in front of the main building, walk past it and keep going till you'll reach the dorms, introduce yourself to the reception staff with your student ID and they'll give you the key to your room."
A 20 minutes' walk from a side to the other one was a long one considering it was already 8 pm and Shiraki still needed to have dinner, but the sight of such night sky was washing away all her concerns.
Shiraki kept walking till she finally arrived at the dorms, her walk led to a huge condominium-like building, and her room was at the last floor of that huge building. Shiraki entered the building and gave a quick look around, on the left there was the reception, on the right a little waiting room with a couple of armchairs and a sofa, and at the end of the hallway there was what looked like an elevator.
Shiraki walked toward the reception and by the time she reached it someone came behind the counter.
"Good evening, how can I help you?"
The demon behind the counter had goatish features, from the horns on her head to her lower half being goat's legs.
"Hi my name is Shiraki you, I'm a first year and I was assigned the room number 284 at the tenth floor."
While she was introducing herself, Shiraki handed the demon her student ID.
"Sure, my name is Mare and I'm this dorm's manager, let me check your room."
Mare took Shiraki's ID and scanned it searching for her data, upon confirming Shiraki's room Mare went to the reception's office, she took the key of the room and went back to the counter.
"Here your room's key and your ID back, take the elevator and reach the 10th floor, once there search for your room's number on the left side of the floor, even numbered rooms are on the left while odd numbered rooms are on the right. Inside your room you'll find an old-style phone, use it for call here if you need anything, oh and one last thing."
Mare took a pen and a notebook from the desk.
"It's quite late at the moment and we are delivering dinner to the student's room as they arrive, what would you like to have for dinner? We'll bring it to your room as soon as it'll be ready."
Shiraki scratched her chin for a moment thinking about what to order, in the end her choice fell on a simple dish.
"I'll take an omurice then."
"Okay, when your dinner will be ready someone will knock at your door, I hope your room will be of your liking."
"Thank you a lot and goodnight."
"Goodnight to you."
Shiraki went to take the elevator to get to her room, one was already on the ground floor so she entered that one and pressed the button for her floor. The elevator quickly reached her floor, when the door opened Shiraki found herself in a hallway with red walls and black floor, in the wall in front of her 2 signs were hanging on the wall directing the students toward even or odd numbered rooms.
Since even numbered rooms were on the left, Shiraki took the left and walked toward the end of that small hallway, there she found the hallway where the rooms were located. The hallway began with the room number 272, since Shiraki's one was number 284 she walked till she reached her room.
"Here we are, let's see what jichan turned my dorm room into."
Shiraki unlocked the door of the room and stepped inside, by turning on the light with the switch on her right, Shiraki began to give a first look to her room while closing the door behind her.
Upon entering the room Shiraki found a carpet on her feet, on her right there was a white coat hanger while on her left there was an umbrella stand, a shoe rack with another carpet and a stool next to it, trying to imitate a Japanese house.
The walls and roof of the entrance were of a simple white color, the tiles of the floor were of a simple white as well. Opposite to the entrance there was a sliding door leading to her balcony, the wall was of a light gray instead of being white. The sliding door had knotted black curtains on the side. On the right side of the hallway there was a black door, probably leading to her bedroom.
Shiraki took off her shoes and placed them inside the shoe rack, the distance between the sliding door and the entrance door made a pretty long hallway, since Shiraki's dinner was in the making it meant she had the time to explore her room. As Shiraki walked that long hallway, she turned the on the lights on her left, revealing a big open space living room.
The walls of the living room were grey, an air conditioner was hanging on the wall and under it there was a small table with a marble surface. On that table there was a really big TV with the AC's remote and an old-style phone, the one mentioned by Mare at the reception. The rest of the living room was composed by a sofa, 2 armchairs and a short table with a marble surface with the TV remote on it. All of this on a large black and grey carpet.
Shiraki sat on the sofa to try it out. The sofa was soft and pretty comfortable, Shiraki put her feet on the table crossing her legs while placing her arms on the sofa's back leaning her head backwards. After taking a deep breath she relaxed for a moment, by tilting her head further backwards she gave a first look to what looked like the kitchen since the room was an open space.
The kitchen had a table with a white surface and black legs, 6 white leather chairs were around the table, behind them there was the actual kitchen. The kitchen was composed by a side-by-side fridge, an oven, a dishwasher and every possible kitchen utility and appliance, with plenty of cupboards and drawers. The fridge was black while the rest of the kitchen was white, the top of the kitchen was made of white marble.
"Jichan truly turned a turned this into an apartment, I hope he didn't empty his bank account to give me this room. Time to start unpacking."
On the left side of the living room there was the bathroom's door, between the TV and the bathroom's door there was a white window with black curtains like the sliding door. Shiraki went back to the entrance to get her luggage and enter her bedroom to unpack.
With her luggage at hand she tried to open the door of her bedroom, the door was unlocked but before entering she turned on the lights.
The walls of the room were of a dark grey with a parquet on the floor, a wardrobe almost as tall as the room was on the right side while in front of it there was a double bed, with a big carpet next to the bed on the floor. Next to the bed there was a little cabinet with a remote, an alarm clock and a lamp, next to the cabinet there was a really big black window with black curtains. Opposite to the side of the bed, there was a black desk with a black office chair, the desk had a lamp on its left together with a trash can right next to it, while on the right side there were 3 big drawers. To finish the bedroom there was an AC hanging on the wall between the desk and the bedroom's door.
Shiraki quickly checked the insides of the wardrobe, she checked the bed and the cabinet, then she gently run her hand on the office chair and the desk, after sitting on her chair she couldn't help but smile.
"You truly didn't need to go for the extra mile Jichan, I can't believe brought my entire bedroom here with something more."
The bedroom of her dorm room was a replica of her bedroom in the human world, with the differences of it being a bigger room, a bigger wardrobe and a bigger bed.
Shiraki got up from her chair and placed her luggage on her bed, the moment she began to unpack someone was knocking at the room's door.
"Is anybody home? I'm here to deliver an omurice for Shiraki Ryu room 284."
Dinner was finally here, Shiraki went to answer the door and opened it.
"Here I am sorry for the delay."
The demon handed Shiraki her dinner and left after saying her goodbye, Shiraki went back inside her dorm room and locked the door. Her dinner was the perfect occasion to try the chairs and table of her kitchen. Shiraki went to the kitchen and sat down on one of the chairs, they were soft and comfortable, while the table was pretty sturdy, and both were at the perfect height.
"Itadakimasu."
Shiraki began to eat the omurice, it was served in a tray with silverware and a bottle of water. The dish was good and in a couple of minutes she cleared the plate, she thanked for the food and brought the dirty dishes to the sink, with her belly full she could go back to her room and unpack her stuff.
Shiraki went to her room and began to unpack her luggage, she untied her katana from her hip and placed it near the bed, a wardrobe of that size could store 4 times the amount of clothes she brought with her. Finished with the unpacking, not even half of the wardrobe was filled up, her textbooks were on her desk and the empty luggage was inside the wardrobe as well.
Between a thing and another it was already 10pm, school was going to begin the next day and Shiraki had yet to check the bathroom of her room, seeing how her grandpa transformed a simple dorm room into an apartment her expectations were high. Shiraki changed in her pajamas and went to the bathroom.
When Shiraki entered the bathroom, it took her only a look around to see that her expectations were met: the bathroom was pretty long and wide, in front of the entrance there was a washing machine with different products on top of it, next to the washing machine there was the bidet and the toilet. On the other side of the bathroom there was a big sink with a big mirror hanging on the wall, near the sink there was a kind of table with cabinets both under it and hanging on the wall. At the end of the bathroom there were a pair of sliding doors as wide as the bathroom completely separating the shower from the rest of the room. Before the entrance of the shower there was a carpet, while on the wall there was a rack full of towels and bathrobes. The shower had a bathtub on the right and a wall-mounted shower on the left with a stool. The bathroom had hexagonal white and black tiles on the walls while the floor had big white tiles that reflected the bathroom in them.
"They indeed tried to make it look like a Japanese bathroom, but looks like in the end they had to put everything in one room, at least it's pretty big."
Shiraki cracked her neck and went back to her room to grab the stuff she took from the train but stopped in front of the french door.
"I'll check the balcony tomorrow."
Shiraki went to her bedroom and grabbed her toothbrush and toothpaste, and since she had a washing machine, she decided to try it out with the uniform she wore today. After going back to the bathroom she began to wash her teeth, meanwhile she loaded the washing machine and loaded it with the used uniform, then started the program using the products that were on top of the washing machine.
Done with washing her teeth, she left the bathroom and turned off the light, she turned off the rest of the lights and checked if the room's door was locked, finding the door properly locked Shiraki went back to her bedroom closing the door.
"Tomorrow it'll be the first day, I think the program for the day was written somewhere in the papers they gave me with the books."
Shiraki searched in her bag leaving the books on the desk, after looking inside her textbook she finally should the program.
"This one was for the pick up... oh here it is."
Shiraki cleared her throat and began to read.
"Demon School Cerberus Castle first day program. The first day of the new students will goes as following: the students will attend the opening speech at 7am, the speech will take place in the main building's main hall, the speech will be given by the school's principal. Following the principal's speech, the classes will be formed and each new class will be escorted by their coordinator to their classroom. The class coordinator will be the rappresentative of the class, all official business and similar activities will be announced and dealt by the coordinator. Arrived in class, the students will introduce themselves to their coordinator, following the introductions the power of each student will be measured, recorded and exposed in the school's leaderboard. When the coordinator will be done with the power measurements, the students will be free to go and explore the school's territory to their liking, the first week of lessons will consist in school days of 2 hours of lessons with the coordinator in order to establish the calendar of lessons. Students are free to ask teachers for further information or extra lessons should they want to deepen their knowledge in their free time."
"Guess I need to wake up pretty early tomorrow."
Shiraki left everything on her desk and turned off the lights of her room, she went before the cabinet near her bed and set up the alarm clock for tomorrow.
"6am should be enough, I'll take a shower and have breakfast in the canteen, I'll also need to go shopping for groceries and stuff after school, it's too bad to not use such kitchen."
Shiraki stretched her back and jumped on her bed, the bed smelled nice and everything was soft and comfortable, of the 4 pillows she had on her bed she hugged one and placed another between her legs.
"Goodnight jichan."
With a goodnight from another world for her grandpa, Shiraki quickly fell asleep. Her long and tiring first day in the Demon World finally came at end, all the new things she had the occasion to see, from the purple sky to her dorm room were only a small taste of what was going to be her new life in the Demon World, and the best had yet to come.
END CHAPTER 3
