The sun feels warm and soft today as a small breeze blows across your skin. With the last bits of snow melting away, you head out for a meeting with someone you haven’t seen in a while. The brutal winter is now over, and luckily for you, you make it out with all your fingers and toes intact. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to keep her waiting on a day like this.
“Hey! You finally made it!” says the girl with long black hair and zebra striped jacket.
She gives you a smile that might even be warmer than the sun above. Her golden eyes reflect the light and catch your attention. You could lose yourself in her gaze if not for her frantically waving at you. This feels really familiar. Maybe that’s a good thing.
“Yeah, took me a bit to get ready. Didn’t want to look bad,” you remark.
She giggles, most likely because she has the same worries as you do. You look at her again. Yeah, this is a girl you’ve known for a long time and happy to see…wait, huh? That’s a bit embarrassing. What’s her name again? You can’t just ask her, or else you would either look dumb or uncaring. The last thing you want is for her to feel upset, or even worse, cry.
----------------------------------------
Well, it may have felt like a difficult problem, maybe even troublesome for other people if they had to be in your shoes, but ever since you’ve known her, you’ve always known for a fact that whenever she started something, you were always able to finish it. It didn’t matter if it was her stories that she just starts writing willy-nilly from her vivid and inexhaustible imagination, or whether she’d want to hang out at the park while she plays on the street piano OR read books at the library while you listen to the vast knowledge and wisdom that she has to give you, albeit you’d have to listen to a lot of her ramblings.
But it’s okay, it’s all right, it’s as it should be. Because you’ve always understood that she is a brilliant and an extraordinary person that’s always, always aware of how she feels, but is never aware of what she wants, or even worse, you fear that she’s not allowing herself to want things. And so as fate would have it, she has met you—the person who always knows what he wants, but not always the means to have them. And lucky for her, you’re also a person who pays attention to other people, even their feelings, and can eventually figure out what they really want for them if you needed to.

You ask yourself, well, why is that relevant? Well, like I’ve said, what she starts, you finish. What she wants that she is unaware of, you eventually figure out for her. And concerning anything that you want—she offers you the means and knowledge to have them or make them a reality. In other words, you naturally complete each other. How would a mere nuisance like this prevent you from getting what you want, when the means to get it is also staring directly at you in the face, with the corner of her lips curled upwards, just waiting for you to tell her what you want?
And you knew exactly what to say to her.
“If you are me right now trying to pick you up, what would you say to yourself?”
“Huh? What’s this all of a sudden?”
“shhh… just tell me.”
“hmm…”
She closed her eyes and thought about it for a moment, the tip of her index finger touching her chin, before opening her eyes again abruptly.
“H-he-hey S-Shiori!”
She was trying to mimic your voice awkwardly by making her voice very low and goofy, as if to make fun of you, all the while trying her best to hold her laughter.
“Are you hungry? Would you like to eat some doughnut at the shop right now?! hohoho~!”
“You’re the only doughnut here Shiori. Also that last part made you sound like Patrick who's going into labor.”
She giggled cutely at your slightly annoyed and cultured comeback.
“Well, all right. I figured you must be hungry by now that’s why you mentioned that. Shall we go?”
“To a doughnut shop!?”
She asked curiously.
“No, not to a doughnut shop Shiori! That’s not gonna keep us fed all afternoon!”
She giggled again, as she absolutely loves the idea of teasing you.
“Okay! Let’s just go wherever you wanna go today, as always.”
Shiori said before grabbing your arm to cling on it and she then leaned on your shoulder as you both began walking to where you wanted to go.
She smiles as she’s looking at you from the corner of her eyes. and you were getting this almost numbing feeling just at the back of your head, that something was amiss.
What she starts, you’re always there to finish with her. And your life with her has always been how she willed it to be as it should be.
