“Please, you can’t tell anyone about us. We were told that we’d all be coming late and therefore all living to the same place. So when you said that you were also late- and your powers seem so stable- I just- please don’t tell anyone.” Anna begged, her hands clasped as she looked slightly up at me with large pleading eyes.
“Alright alright I won’t tell anyone about you three. Just, tell Claire to stop talking about it too. Not everyone is going to take kindly to the news of Commoner level people being elevated to Knight level abilities. Those born lucky always tend to love to hold onto their higher positions.” Sierra said, putting her hands up defensively.
‘Not as if they’d be any threat to me anyway, based on what I know about the Tier system and her display earlier.’ Sierra secretly thought, her prideful nature still being forced onto the backburner until she found her social footing.
“Thank you so much roomie!” Anna said, jumping forward in order to bring Sierra into a hug. Only to be stopped by a barrier of course. “You’re no fun.”
“Yeah, no. Not a big hugger. Or big on other people touching me in general.” Sierra said, putting her hand up and side-stepping her over-eager roommate.
“Awww really? What about a boyfriend or girlfriend?” Anna asked, once again floating herself around like an annoying fly.
“Nope. Never had either, too much drama.” Sierra said, shaking her head flatly.
‘ Not for lack of trying on my part… but usually people are pretty turned away by the whole power thing. It’s not my fault you’re all weak! ‘ Sierra’s thoughts once again betraying her curt response.
“Ugh you’re such a prude! Are you planning on being a square your whole time here? Don’t be upset if I bring a girl or two back!” Anna said, sticking her tongue out before chuckling. “Just kidding, I’ll text you beforehand. I’m gonna keep unpacking now, have a good time settling in!”
With that strange conversation finally out of the way, Sierra tethered the ball of table to her back and rolled her suitcases into her new room.
It was a simple, yet elegant layout. A queen sized bed squarely in the middle of the left wall, flanked by end tables on either side. On the opposite wall sat a wardrobe, a desk with a lamp, a dresser and another small drawer. On the far wall sat an open door, leading to a private bathroom, next to a small empty closet.
Thankfully, on the wall there was a large double window leading out into the main campus area. Opening the window and flicking her wrist, Sierra sent the barrier ball containing the wooden debris out the window and careening towards the dumpster, landing with a loud resounding crash.
Swiftly closing the window, Sierra began the tedious process of unpacking all of her important personal belongings.

Point of View : Anna Vytakov
‘ Uuuuuuugh fuck! Of course! Of course our fucking roommate has to be the snobby King-Class prick! Fuck! Why couldn’t we get David or Claire or literally anyone else! ‘ Anna thought, her impulsive and angry thoughts causing some of the more delicate items in her room to shake slightly.
‘ Calm down. Breathe. Breathe. Don’t let them get under your skin now. You’re not the weakling you once were. King class or not, they’re no better than you. ‘ Vytakov whispered into her mind, soothing the telekinetic waves and calming their host.
‘ Thanks Vee, I’ll be alright. I just hate how everyone still lords over us even when we’ve gotten so much stronger. So what if my control is still a little shaky, I’m not a damn Common anymore.’ Anna said, having fully calmed down and stopped pacing around her room.
‘Still, you’ve got to get your temper under control or you’re never gonna lift our restrictions any higher. I don’t know about you, but milling around unable to leave campus or be out past 10pm doesn’t seem like the most fun idea to me. Want me to hop in the driver seat? I can get us through this first week just like the first week at the Viper Trials.’ Vytakov said, the small being psychically spreading warmth throughout Anna’s body, waiting for the moment to take over.
‘Sure, yeah, go ahead. I’m sorry for almost outing the rest of the Vipers, thankfully that blue haired bitch doesn’t seem to care about us.’ Anna mentally said, falling into the sweet warm embrace of the companion she’s had since early childhood, allowing Vytakov full control over her body.

As Anna’s pastel pink hair began to shine a few shades brighter, and her eyes took on a deeper shade of purple, the waves of energy slowly but surely continued to lessen until the room was completely still.
Anna had met Vytakov in her early childhood, only a few days after her powers first manifested. Playing in the forest near her house, the small, newborn psychic sprite seemed to resonate with her power, drawing them together.
Ever since that fateful day, the two had been inseparable, Vytakov feeding off the ambient energy that Anna produces as a telekinetic, and the Empowered fae in turn boosting the powers of its host by giving them a minor form of telepathy.
Their relationship moves beyond that of simple friendship to that of a symbiotic partnership when Vytakov’s powers allowed them to transform from a small pixie into a near-permanent brand on the back of her neck, although limiting in scope for the freedom of the former fae, the trade off was a stronger power boost and the ability to possess their best friend, acting as the calm second head that her ever growing powers needed.
Dressing themselves in a slightly more put-together outfit, Anna Vytakov headed out of the dormitory, ready to warn the rest of the Viper candidates of her fuck up.

Point of View : Sierra Wraith
The following day seemed to pass by in a blur, between unpacking, rearranging, buying new furniture and clothes with her first monthly payment on top of her generous savings, and becoming orientated with the campus city, time simply disappeared for the blue-haired ex-criminal.
Dressing herself in a cute white jacket, black halter top and mid-length skirt, donning her backpack and black boots, Sierra set off for the first day of classes. The only additional two pieces of clothing she needed being the arm band that sat around her right arm, the pure black band and regal looking crown identifying her as a Black Tier King Level ability user, and of course her small silver ring.
‘ It sucks I didn’t get to pick my electives for the first semester, but being able to not have any classes until 10am is worth the trade off. I wonder what kind of class Practical Ability Application is? ‘ Sierra wondered, shifting the weight of her backpack as she marched to the large rectangular building, determined to get there at least ten minutes early.
Stepping through the large metal doors, Sierra quickly navigated the twisting hallways, finding herself in the large lecture hall, which to her surprise was already beginning to fill by a small trickle of other early students. Instantly she found the benefit in wearing the otherwise ridiculous arm bands, spotting that a majority of the students already there were either light gray Nobles or plain gray Knights.
After a moment of analysis, Sierra made her way to a red-haired woman lounging in the middle third of the classroom, sporting a dark gray armband displaying a plain looking crown, a Lord level ability holder.
‘ So Anna thinks I can’t make any moves huh? I’ll show her bringing people back. Time for Operation Outshine the Roommate ‘ Sierra thought, a devilish idea forming in her mind.
“Hey, is this seat taken?” Sierra said, giving a small wave to the red-haired woman and gesturing to the seat next to her.
“Yeah. Fuck off.” They replied, barely sparing a glance in her direction.
Operation Outshine the Roommate seemed to be starting off in a rough patch.
Turning on her heel and briskly walking away, Sierra found an open and empty space in the hall and set her belongings down, her mind still spinning on how that interaction could have gone so badly. But before her thoughts were able to form a cohesive narrative, the class had filled around her, two strangers sitting on either side of her and the teacher coming into the room only a few moments later.
To her surprise, the teacher was no other than the green-eyed night-watch member that had conducted her interrogation and admission process into the program.
“Good morning class, my name is Mister Evergreen and I will be your proctor for Practical Ability Application. I’ve already had the pleasure of meeting a select few of you, but for the majority I have not.” The green eyed weasel said, scanning the crowd and seeming to linger on Sierra for the briefest of moments. “To answer the questions that are burning in all of your minds, yes, this class is mandatory for all incoming freshman and you will have a form of it forced into your schedules for all four years here. Yes, it is a class directly tied to the night-watch, offered in order to find potential candidates who want to join us. Yes, you will be fighting each other with your abilities in order to understand the limits yours and your fellow students have, as well as to temper yourselves into not using too much force or too little force in a safe environment. But do understand, this is not a villain breeding ground, all of you will learn restraint and proper force control.”
At the proctors final words, the entire room fell to an eerie silence, some people seemed unsurprised, but most, Sierra included, were completely caught off guard.
“Now, given today is our introductory classes, I find it only fitting to establish a baseline.” At the end of his announcement and with a snap of his fingers, the entire classroom was surrounded by a bright green glow, only to be warped into a larger lecture hall, with a small area at the front instead of a blackboard.
The area was roughly forty feet in diameter, surrounded by a shimmering white glow.
“We’ll go by order of Tier, followed by level, so starting will be our two Black Tier ability holders. Miss Sierra Wraith and Jeremiah Harris please step forward? If you two are willing of course.” The Evergreen Serpent said, gesturing to the class and locking eyes with Sierra.
‘ I guess making any friends of equal strength is going out the window huh. ‘ Sierra thought to herself, silently rising to her feet.
