Intro: The American

In a luxurious Italian hotel suite, a woman of the British Upper Class began a letter, her pen moving swiftly across the page. She paid little attention to the breathtaking view of the Colosseum, Rome's most significant historical landmark.

With each stroke, she captured the events of the past few days, the ink flowing as easily as the thoughts racing through her mind.

Dearest Julian, brother,

I hope this letter finds you well. It feels like ages since we last spoke, though I must admit I write with a sense of urgency, as I witnessed an event so shocking that I felt compelled to share it with you without delay.

Two nights ago, I attended a soirée in the hotel lounge, a place that’s usually rather unremarkable. However, what transpired was anything but ordinary.

It was one of those extravagant gatherings regularly held by Italian high society. The air was alive with enchanting music and the laughter of Europe's Elite, their voices, a tapestry of whispered secrets and excessive outbursts.

An American, whose name escapes me for the moment but whose presence left a bad taste in my mouth, approached Evelyn and made her an utterly scandalous proposal. I must confess, it was quite the spectacle.

The man undeniably had charisma, but in a savage way, with more swagger than decency. For he was no gentleman and dressed extremely inappropriately for the occasion.

I could see that Evelyn was momentarily shocked, perhaps even flattered, but I fully expected her to recognize this offer for what it truly was; a vulgar proposal.

But I could see Evelyn’s usual grace and composure slipping away under the influence of his poisonous words.

As of now, the atmosphere of our trip has shifted entirely. Evelyn, who has always been so firmly anchored in her world of propriety, seems sincerely rattled by the words of this American. She claims he made her question some of her life choices, but I can see that it is more than that.

We lost her to the American, Julian. And I fear it may not be so simple to pull her back.

I eagerly await your thoughts on this dramatic turn of events. And I hope you can help me persuade her, for I do so worry about the impact this might have on Evelyn.

I shall keep you updated as things develop, but for now, know that Europe has proven to be full of surprises. Until then, please give my regards to everyone at home.

Yours affectionately,

June
