Chapter 2

After a wait of several minutes there was another beep as the Assistance Chip finished its first scan and configuration. It then projected all of Savani's basic attributes into his mind.

According to his studies Savani found that this world had broken up a persons body into several different attributes from years of research and experimentation. These results were found after hundreds of thousands of years of research done by the Sages in an attempt to better understand how to gain more power as well as help their descendants. These attributes could be categorized into five different types: Strength, Physique, Vitality, Agility, and Spirit. These five attributes would determine an apprentices and an Adepts strengths and weaknesses.

Strength was primarily used to quantify a persons physical strength and was the most important attribute for close combat Sages, otherwise known as Warrior Sages. This attribute would determine ones base damage when using close combat techniques, both bare handed and with a weapon. It also affected ones explosiveness and accuracy when dealing with close combat. An ordinary commoners Strength would be capped at 5, with the average being around 3.

Physique represented a persons endurance and fortitude. With a high physique one could have a stronger body and be able to withstand various forms of harm like poison or diseases. It would also improve a persons stamina allowing them to last longer in battle so it was concidered a very important attribute. Most humans only had a Physique of 2 or 3.

Vitality represented a persons life force. In essence this was how hard it was to kill a person as well as how quickly they could recover from damage. A person with a high Vitality could recover from injuries far faster than those with a low Vitality. A person with high Vitality could also withstand far more injuries than one with low Vitality making it a very sought after attribute. This attribute for a normal person was a 2 showing how weak a normal person truely was.

Agility represented a bodys dexterity, speed, reflexes, balance, and flexibility. This attribute was vital for those who focused more on fast paced combat. Those with a high Agility prefered light or medium armor and tended to a more quick footed fighting style. Agility was also very important to those who used long ranged weapons so it was also sought after by bow users. Usually a commoners agility was around a 3.

Spirit determined a persons learning ability as well as their capability at holding essence. This attribute was the most important for Sages as it decided on the number of spells they could use while in battle as well as make it easier for them to understand newer spells. A higher Spirit could also augment the power of a spell allowing the spell to be far more deadly. This attribute was also the reason there were so few Sages and apprentices around.

An average animal would have a spirit of 1 or 2, while for humans it would be normaly around 3. However to become an apprentice the minimum Spirit attribute was 5! And to evolve to a Sage an apprentice must gather over 20 Spirit!

Glancing at his status Savani sat up straight in shock! Space affinity!? From what he could gather apprentices could only get in touch with the most basic of elements. Namely those of Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, Light, and Darkness. From these elements, along with some external stimulus and modification, is how Sages developed more complex elemental affinities.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

For instance if a Sage wanted to develop an affinity with plants he would need to develop an affinity for both Earth and Water, with a smaller affinity with either Light or Darkness depending on the type of plant life he wished to attune with. And even then the Sage would have to start with one of these affinities and slowly augment their body while they were an apprentice before reaching the point of being able to control the desired type of plant life.

However unlike other apprentices he seemed to gain access to a higher tier element at the very beginning! The chances of this happening were so rare that most magical organizations didnt even test for them. Only the bigger organizations that stretched over hundreds of smaller ones would waste resources to look for all elemental affinities on a mere beginner apprentice.

Of course there were those who were born with a high affinity with a higher tier element in which case the testing orb would show that element, but if there were more than one element it would only show those that were the most basic.

Still reeling from the shock Savani looked at the rest of his status. Overall they were fairly average which made sense since a fresh apprentice wasn't allowed to start their journey until after the first months training. They weren't even given any form of meditation until the time they picked their first spell module. This was to help the apprentice get a small foundation and not rush into things they didn't understand.

The fact that he had two elements, and one being a higher tier element made the road he could travel far grander than if he only had one element.

From his studies Savani learned there were mainly four ways for an apprentice to become a Sage. They were Body Modification, Elemental Baptism, Bloodline Modification, and Soul Transference.

Body Modification was the path of augmenting the apprentices body with various external stimuli. Some Body Modification Sages used metals and plants to augment their bodies while others used monster organs. Some even went so far as to turn themselves into undead! These bodies could handle a stronger Spirit allowing them to break through the wall between that of an apprentice and a full blown Sage. However they were severely limited by their augmentations and would have to be very careful to leave room for them to augment themselves down the line or they could find that their journey would come to an end.

Elemental Baptism was the path of attuning ones body and soul with a particular element. Due to this their body could handle greater stress from the element the Sage was attuned to. Not only that but the cost of spells from that element would be reduced while their strength would be increased. They could also absorb that one element far easier than they could before their baptism. The tradeoff though would be that elements opposed to this would hurt them twice as much while also stripping the wielder of the ability to wield other elements.

Bloodline Modification was similar to Body Modification. It used the blood of magical creatures to boost and mutate the Sage into a hybrid style human. These Sages could weild multiple elements as well as usually have high physical attributes allowing them to be quite strong. They could also sometimes gain abilities unique to the creature whose blood they fused with. However there was a major trade off. The blood would modify the Sages body into a hybrid, sometimes deforming them into monsters. The Sages mood would also be affected by the bloodline making them irritable and tempermental which was a large problem as a Sage was suppose to remain clear headed to better learn magic and understand the laws governing it. But the biggest problem is that the Sage would be bound to the rank that the creature could grow to! If they hybridized with a creature that could only become a low level Sage then that is as far as they would ever go on their journey.

The final road a Sage could take was Soul Transference. This road was similar to Bloodline Modification except instead of modifying their own body the Sage would transfer their soul into the body of a creature or construct. There they would grow until they reached the peak of their bodies capabilities. Whats more the body that they transfered into would have to be that of an infant or egg to properly allow the Sage to keep their conciousness while binding to the foreign body. Otherwise they could find their soul and memories devoured by the creatures and instead allow the creature to benefit.

With a sigh Savani looked at the book he was origionally reading before closing it and heading to bed. Tomorrow he would be given his first spell and meditation technique and he needed a clear mind to help him determine what to choose. Before heading to sleep though, he sent a message to the chip to sort all knowledge gathered over the last month in his memories into different categories and to start extrapolating an appropriate plan to maximize his growth.
