Shadow

He stared into nothingness as he walked across the battlefield, the steps silent. The rain muffled the sound of death creeping across the once was, beautiful scenery…. Forgotten and desecrated by the flames of war.

The “Guild Wars” as Shadow referred to them.

He contemplated.

“Why do people feel the need to be so greedy, why do you need more? Is it not enough filling your own territories with grief, poverty and corruption? Why… must you spread this disease here?”

Shadow said as he stabbed a warrior in the back. “IS IT NOT ENOUGH!!?”

Blood dripping down his blades, he vanished. The rain masking his presence as he appeared in between a group of guild members. The sky wept. He pulled the two daggers out from behind him and stabbed the Archer to his right in the throat while at the same time slitting the throat of the one to the left. Sheathing his daggers he threw the archer forwards, stumbling the warrior in front and using the other on his left to shield him from the vision of the mage and cleric at the back of the group. Pulling out his daggers once more, he slipped behind the cleric while his vision was still focused on the man falling towards him. Cutting the cleric’s hamstring, the man fell backwards only to have his neck sliced through as shadow spun around the cleric’s back cutting both with just the dagger in his right hand. Using the momentum from the spin he fell towards the ground slightly in front of the mage slashing with his right hand at the mages ankle causing him to lean forward shadow pulled his left leg forward to prop him back up and flipped the dagger on his left backwards as it sunk into the mages neck. His back facing the now dead mage and cleric, shadow eyed out the now gaping warrior holding a dead

body in his arms.

“You... Who ar” The Warrior tried to ask, pulling his sword out at the same time but it was already too late. Shadow stepped past him pulling his dagger out of the Warrior’s throat as he kept walking.

As Shadow walked, five corpses fell to the ground at almost the same time.

He followed the screaming and shouting, the sound of metal clashing against one another. Shadow thought to himself “The rain can’t wash away the filth gathered here”.

Shadow stepped out onto the city walls, it was a beautiful city. Located inside a valley the city was built on the side of a Mountain were the cliffs on both sides converged onto a single point. Located about 1km away from the city was a lake, where the sun would reflect off of during the day and the stars at night. Located between the two points were fields of flowers. The sight was a Beauty to behold…but not anymore, the white city walls. Scorched and crumbling due to the bombardment of catapults and magic, the fields covered with corpses and the stench of the death, the lake. Red, as the rain washed all the blood from the fields into it.

Shadow was filled with rage, so much rage. His home ravaged, why? because the location of the city was appealing to any kingdom, its placement made it a fitting place for a Fortress to be built as it left only one opening for any attacker. Making it easily defendable against armies and could double as a supply depot for allies to rest and resupply. Guilds across the Versailles Continent were constantly waging wars on cities and castles, Brunnen city became one of them.

The once beautiful land, gone. All Shadow saw now was death and sorrow.

The rain continued to pour, the sky darkened and grey.

Brunnen a city filled with life and beauty. Destroyed.

Shadow jumped off the city walls, executing the man beneath him… and again he ran. Dashing through the rain and puddles of water and blood around him, he cut through all enemies before they even noticed that he was behind them. –Shadow Step- a passive skill he gained from his time in the city, Shadow never liked to be noticed. Whenever there wasn’t any alleyways for him to walk through, he would hide behind people walking through the streets. Constantly switching barely anyone even noticed he was there, he became the shadow people made as they walked through the streets. The steps were smooth and silent only when he was in a hurry did people begin to notice his presence however the steps were made for another reason. Whenever fights erupted he would use others to hide his presence, obscuring the vision of multiple targets at once he would dash behind them and start the process again after one of his targets were felled. The more people around to block him from the sights of others the stronger he became, his speed his greatest ally. The darkness only helped to improve his ability further, a walking shadow.

Stolen story; please report.

Shadow couldn’t be bothered staying in one area “I’ll just cripple them and take the clerics and mages out. I’ll let the defenders finish the rest off.”

“Who is that?’ came from one of the archers watching Shadow stab multiple enemies at once then dashing to another location.

The defenders of the city were astonished, there was one man running through the enemy. Slashing at everyone, helping the groups on the front lines and then disappearing onto another part of the battlefield.

“Don’t know but it looks like he’s on our side”

“CHARGE! DON’T SQUANDER THIS CHANCE, ATTACKK!!!!”

“AAARRRRR” The defenders of the city ROARED. NPC and player alike, charged with one another. The battle raged on, Brunnen City was pushing back.

Brian stared into his computer screen holding his breath. Thinking to himself “Please, please, please, c’mon don’t fail me now”.

Staring intently at the loading screen of his exam results Brian felt the inside of his stomach churning, no matter how much he tried to steel himself there was no way he couldn’t stop himself from being nervous.

//2014 EXAM RESULTS//

*sound of mouse scrolling down the page*

Brian stood up and walked to his bed, a blank look encompassing his face. He fell over, his face buried into his pillow.

“imph nd dinth” he turned over….. and shouted “I DID IT!!!” A wide grin appearing on his face.

“I guess all that time acting as a Hikkimori really paid off, only time I ever left my room was too eat and sh*t. Ever since that promise my parents made too me a year ago I’ve been studying my butt off”

Brian changed his voice too give off a high pitched tone “get straight A’s and maybe we will get you that game that comes out in what…10 months or so? What was it called again?” now changing to a low pitched voice Brian said “It’s called Royal Road, honey”.

Brian rolled over to check if his door was open. Seeing that it was closed he rolled back.

“Hmpff, they better keep their promise or who knows what I’ll do. I’m not afraid of them!!”

Brian was 6’3ft tall, black hair and had light brown skin. He was often told by people he knew that he was a big guy, but honestly he thought to himself. Everyone’s just short. He had brown eyes and overall was an average looking guy. Beside his appearance Brian was an introvert, he liked to be alone most of the time but that didn’t mean he hated other people just that he liked his own personal space. His favourite past time was mostly just otaku stuff, anime, manga, k-pop however right now he also happened to be into writing fan fiction of anime series.

After daydreaming for a while, Brian stood up and headed downstairs. He told his parents about his results they were shocked.

Whispering to each other his father said “I thought you said he was too stupid to get straight A’s”

“How was I supposed to know he was going to get them, he looks like you so I thought it didn’t matter”

“….that hurt”

“A promise is a promise, you can’t back now” Brian said.

Brian’s father was named John, he worked at one of the companies affiliated with the Unicorn Corporation supplying parts needed for the production of their capsules. The company was Spark Industries. Brian’s family wasn’t rich but their family still had an above average income and with his father’s connections it wasn’t too hard to get a capsule for a lowered price.

“Fine, I guess it can’t be helped. We can just write it off as an early Christmas present” His mother replied.

Which wasn’t too far off since Christmas was only a month away. His mother’s name was Jessica and she also happened to work at the same company as his dad however she was less than interested in the dealings between the two companies.

“That’s a bit cheap” Brian said mumbling.

“What was that?”

“Nothing, nothing”

1 week later***

“Finally. Took them long enough” Brian said as he watched the Angels in white, park outside his house. Two men hopped out of the truck and pulled a large white egg out of the back.

After waiting for the men to finish bringing, unpacking and setting up the capsule inside his room, Brian began to admire it.

“It’s Beautiful…but ... how the hell do I get inside?”

Connect to Royal Road? yes/no
