Gin woke up to find that the sky had turned dark, she couldn't get up finding her body too weak and exhausted. It took a considerable amount of effort just to turn her head to look at her left arm.
It was wrapped in bandages, or more accurately torn pieces of cloth, supported by two sticks that ran the length of her arm. Although she still couldn't move most of her arm, at least there wasn't any pain.
Orb floated into her view.
'You're finally awake. How are you feeling?'
“I'm doing okay, just a little tired. What happened?”
'You lost consciousness. During that time a group of goblins stumbled across you, they are the ones who patched you up.'
“Goblins? Aren't they a kind of monster? Why would they help me?”
'They are technically not monsters, although they may look like monsters goblins are peaceful creatures and most historical records have them siding with humans rather than against. Currently, they are known for finding rare herbs and for this reason often trade with the local populace. In fact, if you look to your right side, there's one quite close to you.'
Gin turned her head all the way back over, the goblin looked very different from what she was expecting. She expected it to be green and it was, green like the grass around them. But instead of skin, it had a coat of short, soft-looking fur, that made it look really fuzzy. It had features that she expected goblins to have, like the pointed ears and sharp teeth, but it was strangely adorable due to its features having a certain childlike quality that suited its tiny form.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
It was dressed in a simple tunic with a small belt tied around its waist, decorated with tiny bags and pouches. On its back was a pouch the size of its body, aside from that nothing besides a spear that was resting off its shoulder. Currently, it was asleep, in an upright sitting position with its head pointed downwards. She dragged her arm over to it, nudging its foot. The goblin began to stir, slowly opening its round, yellow eyes. Once it did, it spoke.
“The human is awake!” It leaped to its feet and ran off before Gin could say a word, its voice trailing off as it disappeared into the grass, “Gobbo, Gobbo. The human is awake!”
Gin simply laid there for a while, unsure of what to do. After a while, the goblin returned, lead by another goblin. They slowly walked into the center of Gin's field of view, the lead Goblin making a series of motions in what Gin assumed was an attempt to communicate.
“You can just talk, I can understand you.” Both goblins stared at her with shock.
“You speak Gobbo's tongue? Gobbo has never heard of a human who speaks our tongue.”
“I'm pretty sure I'm speaking like a human right now.”
“No, Gobbo has heard human tongue. Human tongue is nothing like Gobbo's tongue. Gobbo is certain the tongue you speak is not spoken by any humans.”
“Orb? Am I not speaking Mida...”
“That was like human tongue! Gobbo is amazed. Human speaks two tongues. Gobbo didn't know one could speak two tongues.” Gobbo began making a series of weird noises, but eventually, Gin started to hear it, the word Orb repeated over and over again. “Orb.” Gobbo smiled, pleased with how close the last one was.
His companion sheepishly tugged at him, “Gobbo, ask the human for the head.”
“Oh right, the head. Gobbo was trying to ask before. Gobbo was saying that Gobbo had treated your arm and applied a sedative which is why you can't move, Gobbo was planning to ask if you would let us move you, but Gobbo can ask you directly now.”
Gobbo looked serious, bowing his head to Gin, “Gobbo knows that you killed the monster, Gobbo is very thankful for that. Gobbo doesn't wish to ask for more, but Gobbo must.” A pause.
“May Gobbo have the monster's head?”
