"Alex, can you please turn off that music!? Your dad and I are trying to sleep! Do you know what time it is? You're going to wake up your brother!"
Alex heard his mother, Marie, shout over his inconsiderably loud rock music. He had lost track of time while wallowing in self-pity over the breakup with his girlfriend, Suzie. Although deep down, Alex knew he had no right to pity himself considering what he did to Suzie. Truth be told, Alex regretted every word he said in his argument with Suzie, knowing she just wanted the best for him. Depressingly, Alex slowly pulled himself off his bed that was covered in apology letters meant for Suzie in hopes she would take him back. Begrudgingly, he made his way towards his computer to turn down the music. Once Alex sat down, a notification from Discord caught Alex's attention.
From: PRI12ta
"Do you want to play a game? Are you tired of your pitiful daily life and longing to experience what it's like to have every decision you make mean the difference between life or death? Reply YES if you want the power to change your determined fate."
"What the fuck? That sounds so fucking stupid. What type of idiot would even respond to this?"
Alex said with a frustrated tone in his voice.
Although Alex knew that this had to be an obvious scam or some troll, he couldn't expel his curiosity. Before he entertained his curiosity any further, he lowered his ridiculously loud rock music in response to his mother's complaints. (The song was Living on a Prayer.) Once again, captivated by his curiosity and feeling that he couldn't lose anymore after the breakup, he began to fantasize about a world where he could be whoever he wished and to be able to start anew.
Though Alex knew that a world like that would be too good to be true. Though his silent reservations didn't quell his curiosity on the mysterious message.
"I mean, fuck it. I have nothing better to do and I'd really like to take my mind off how fucked up the situation is with Suzie."
Strangely, Alex felt quite excited about this cryptic message. He didn't know why, but it just felt like there was a reason he had received this message at this time.
Although decently good at video games, Alex is what gamers call, 'a no life loser', still living with his parents at twenty-five years old and having no savings to show nor any education. Completely unmotivated to pursue careers or any college education. Alex fell in love with the escape of gaming, and it was in the virtual world where he met his now ex-girlfriend, Suzie. Alex would describe his meeting with Suzie as fate, although they've never seen each other in person, neither of them didn't let that phase the growing feelings they had for each other. Over the span of five months, his relationship with Suzie began to develop flaws as Alex refused to meet with Suzie in person despite her pleas. He felt that if Suzie were to meet the real him, she would abandon him regardless of all the sweet and romantic messages they shared. Then one day Suzie gave him an ultimatum over a Discord call, stating that she cannot go any further with someone who refuses trust in their love and take the next step. Once confronted with what he believed to be a completely unreasonable statement, Alex let his ego and arrogance take charge as he consciously took backseat in his mind and allowed words Suzie never imagined she'd hear from him escape his mouth.

Heartbroken and speechless, Suzie told Alex that she wanted nothing more to do with him. This revelation shook Alex, dragging his consciousness back to the driver's seat. Panicked and realizing the gravity of the whole situation, Alex began stuttering, desperately attempting to say something and play it off as a mistake, but before he could piece an actual sentence out his jumbled words, Suzie interrupted him with her saddened voice, "I don't want to hear anything... You... fucking asshole... I fucking loved you." then proceeded to hang up and swiftly blocked him on every social media platform they shared. Alex was too bewildered to accept the outcome and began making alternative accounts to message Suzie from, though none of his efforts would change the result.
A week went by, and Alex still refused to accept the outcome. He spent many hours attempting to convince himself that he did nothing wrong, and that Suzie was the problem. Fortunately, he wasn't completely blind to the truth - he had caused all of this. Unable to settle with the feelings of heartache and regret, Alex began desperately writing letter and letter filled with words he wished he had said instead. Slowly consumed by his negative thoughts, he locked himself in the room, only emerging to raid the kitchen and use the restroom when nature called.
