Chapter 2 Randel in the hallway

Chapter 2 Randel in the hallway

"I want all of you to sit down in your seats, young men," said the man with an intimidating look. His eyebrows were raised angrily, giving him an annoyed and disgusted expression. The trio sat down in the corner three seats of the first row, exchanging confused looks as none of them recognized this man. Borus gave Balor a questioning look, and Balor returned with the same confused expression. Balor had been at the school since kindergarten and knew all the teachers, so if he didn’t know this man, it meant he was truly unknown.

"Hi, my name is Anthony. I want all of you to guess who I am," said Anthony while fixing his tie and adjusting his glasses. Borus scanned him from bottom to top. He seems to be a well-put-together man who cares about his looks, and he also has that professional look. He’s probably our new math or science teacher, Borus concluded.

"Our new math teacher?" said Balor, halfway out of his seat.

"Wrong," said Anthony dominantly. Balor sat down in disappointment. Borus chuckled at him and then averted his eyes to look at Noir, who, as usual, seemed uninterested in the challenge Anthony presented.

"Then our new science teacher?" said Borus questioningly.

"Also wrong. I am in a much higher position than your teachers. That's all the hint I will be providing you," Anthony said, smirking. Borus, confused, started to fidget with his hair, clumping and then releasing it. He noticed that Balor was looking at the ground in deep consideration, trying to find an answer. Five minutes passed like this.

"I am the Director of Education. I am in charge of the teachers in this school from now on, and I would like you students to call me Mr. Anthony or Mr. A for short," Mr. A said. Balor hit himself on the forehead for not guessing that. Borus thought it was unfair since they hadn't had a Director of Education in this school before.

Abruptly, the door burst open. Borus looked back to find Mr. Filbard entering. Upon noticing Mr. A, he said, "Thank you for keeping the students in check, Mr. Director." His voice had a hint of tension and poison in it.

"Oh, don't worry, that's why I'm here—to help incompetent teachers control their students," replied Mr. A. Borus felt like lasers were coming out of their eyes as they glared at each other. Mr. A then slowly left the room, shutting the door behind him. Borus studied Mr. Filbard's expression; his face was red like a tomato, his hands clenched at his sides.

"Alright, class, let's get started," Mr. Filbard said, trying to regain his composure. His voice was strained, but he managed to continue. "Today, we'll be reviewing the syllabus and going over classroom expectations."

As Mr. Filbard began his lecture, Borus exchanged a look with Balor and Noir. This was going to be an interesting year. Thirty minutes passed, and the bell rang. The trio packed their book bags and quietly left the class. The hall sprawled in front of them, groups of students scattered throughout, most of them lost and trying to find guidance. Borus focused his attention on Balor, who had a confident smirk on his face.

"Let's go, boys, follow me," said Balor, walking to the class right next to their homeroom. Inside, it had the same setup as the previous class, with the windows and the students' desks in the same places. The only difference was that the teacher's desk was at the front, giving the teacher a clear view of all the students.

The trio sat in the first three seats in the first row. Their teacher seemed to be absent, which was not uncommon at Star Sky High School, especially on the first day. Only Mr. Filbard and his brother were consistently present. Borus looked towards Noir to strike up a conversation, but Noir's head was on the desk, indicating he was sleeping. He then averted his eyes to Balor, who put his index finger on his lips, indicating for him to be quiet.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Borus's brows knotted in question, to which Balor pointed at Noir. Understanding, Borus put his head on the desk to rest. The class passed in this manner until the bell rang. Borus was the first to lift his head and wake up Noir, who had actually fallen asleep. Borus had always wondered why Noir was always sleepy in the morning, but whenever he asked, Noir's face would turn grim, as if he had asked something terrible.

Balor then slung his book bag over his shoulder and waited at the front door. When Borus and Noir walked up to him, he left the class and told them to follow him. While walking in the hallway, Borus noticed Randle standing in front of his homeroom class, alone.

Borus now got a much clearer view of Randle than in the car. He noticed that Randle's shirt was stained with red, hard to notice against the maroon background, and his shoes were spotted with red. In the midst of scanning Randle, their eyes met. A deep chill ran down Borus's spine. His breathing became ragged as he kept looking at Randle; his eyes looked like deep empty craters devoid of any human emotions.

Abruptly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. Startled, he looked back to find Noir, now startled himself. "What happened? Why are you so startled?" asked Noir, his expression back in control. Borus, finally able to breathe, said, "It's him. There's something wrong with him. It's as if he is a demon or a killer," Borus pointed at Randle, who still stood in the same spot. Strangely, Borus expected him to vanish into thin air like a ghost because that's what he felt like—Randle was a ghostly apparition roaming the mortal plane for revenge.

"Yes, there is something strange about him, but we shouldn't talk here, or at least not in front of that boy. Let's go," Noir said, dragging Borus down the stairs to the basement.

The basement had a very similar structure to upstairs, the only difference being the length of the hallway, which was cut in half compared to upstairs. Noir continued dragging him to the hall slightly to the right, ignoring the classroom on the left labeled "English" and heading to the one labeled "Science."

Inside, there was no teacher, and the class was formatted the same way as the previous one, with the windows behind them rather than on the side. Borus noticed Balor sitting at the corner of the first row, fidgeting with a toy attached to his book bag. Noir ungripped Borus and sat one seat away from Balor, instructing Borus to sit between them. Borus nodded, put his book bag on the desk, and sat down.

"What happened? How in the world did you get lost while following me?" said Balor with a fake prideful expression. Sweat ran down Borus's face as he said, "It was because of that boy. Something is wrong with him, something is."

Balor, not understanding anything Borus said, looked at Noir for an answer. "When Borus was following us, he saw a boy in the corner of the hallway who he seems to recognize. The moment they met eyes, he froze. Then when I touched Borus, he got startled."

Balor then looked at Borus in a mocking way. Noir, noticing Balor's mocking expression, said, "Balor, there's something wrong with that boy. He wasn't normal. Those eyes weren't the eyes of a normal sixth grader," Noir said, shaking slightly. Balor, after hearing Noir, understood and his expression became serious.

"Yeah, I don't think he is a normal sixth grader. He goes with me now, and when I was with him in the car, there was a rancid smell on him, which almost smelled like meat and blood," said Borus. Noir and Balor's expressions became ugly upon hearing that.

"Blood and meat?" Noir echoed, his face contorting in disgust. "That's not normal at all. We need to be careful around him."

Balor nodded, his usually playful demeanor replaced with concern. "We can't ignore this. If he's involved in something dangerous, we need to find out."

"Agreed," said Borus. "But we need to be smart about it. We can't just accuse him without proof."

Noir leaned forward, his voice low and serious. "We should keep a close eye on him and gather more information. If we notice anything else strange, we'll go to Mr. Filbard."

Borus and Balor nodded in agreement. The trio spent the whole class lost in their own thoughts. In the back of Borus' mind, he felt an unsettling feeling, as if he was being watched. He tried to focus on something, but his mind kept drifting back to Randle and the strange aura surrounding him.
