Prologue...or not?

Prologue...or not?

It was a regular spring morning. An average teenager was heading to school when he heard someone calling for him from a distance.

- “Kyle! Wait for me!”

“So loud early in the morning…” ,- he thought as he turned around only to see his old friend running towards him.

- “Don’t run so fast, John, or you’ll fall-”

Right at that moment Kyle was able to see his friend almost flying towards him so the only thing he could do was to catch him which caused them both to fall on the ground.

- “I-I’m very sorry!” ,- said John as they both got up.

- “It’s okay, just be more careful next time. Got it?”

- “Of course…”

He replied while looking at the ground.

- “...I was just excited that the new year in school has started!” ,- he said as he regained his everyday cheerfulness.

“Well, he always was like this” ,- Kyle thought to himself.

- “Really? And what’s so exciting about it?”

- “What do you mean? We will be able to see our friends more often! Isn’t it cool?”

- “Makes sense.” ,- said Kyle with a smile as they both started moving towards school.

They were chatting about how they spent summer and almost arrived at their destination when they heard a girl’s scream from the nearby alley.

- “SOMEONE, HELP ME!”

Both friends froze for the moment. Then Kyle started running towards the source of this sound when John tried to keep up with him. In the alley they saw two older guys trying to do something with a girl from their school. John pointed on the left one, Kyle nodded and they both ran towards these guys. Despite being a naive and awkward guy John was a member of the karate club so Kyle didn’t worry about him. He was more interested in how he would handle the other guy. The only solution was to win some time before his friend will help him. Kyle started with pushing his enemy away from the girl and, to look more dangerous, took the same fighting stance as John showed him. Before that thug regained his posture, Kyle spoke to this girl.

- “Are you okay?”

- “Y-yes… thank you.”

- “Leave your gratitude for later. Right now I want you to run to the police post and bring some help, can you do it?”

- “O-of course!” ,- she said as she ran away.

“Whew, now I can move freely.” ,- he thought as his opponent regained his stance.

- “You little shit…”

“Oh, he is angry now.” ,- Kyle thought and after a moment he barely dodged a punch in his head. Teenager quickly understood that he won’t be able to withstand another one attack like this so he can’t afford to be hit by it. He kept dodging as he tried examining his friend’s situation. John was winning but he will probably need some more time. The moment when Kyle was distracted he got hit in the jaw.

“D-damn it, it’s more powerful than I thought. I c-can’t move!” ,- he thought as he fell on the ground. Suddenly, the thug pulled out a knife and started approaching Kyle. With fear in his eyes the young man tried to stand up and when he finally succeeded Kyle got a sensation of his stomach being pierced. He started bleeding out pretty badly so he desperately tried to stay conscious. The last thing that he saw in his life was John trying to carry his best friend to the hospital… or so he thought. Some strange light made him blind for the moment and when he opened his eyes again Kyle found himself lying on the floor without any injuries.

“What is going on?” ,- he thought to himself...

Somewhere in the forest in Latum kingdom. Valen was standing on the corpse of the magic beast while watching in the direction of the capital.

- “So they have summoned another one?” ,- he mumbled with annoyance in his voice.

“Well, not that it really bothers me…” ,- the young man thought to himself as he headed to the nearest village - Erst and disappeared in the darkness of the forest…
