Chapter 2

'Troubled waters, but they're only thigh-high.'

'This kind of girl don't get no sleep'

'Don't wake your father ski-'

"In a quarter mile, turn left"

Sighing some as the music is interrupted by my gps prompt, I put on my signal, moving over to the left lane now so it's not a problem later. Shifting in the seat as I stretch and yawn slightly I'm almost to my destination, the, oh so exciting, post office.

Pulling into the parking lot and finding a, thankfully open, spot near the front of the office, I would park my car. Turning it off as I turn off the music my cellphone and closing out the gps app I'd get out and properly stretch.

"Man, it suuucks that they won't deliver to the door on signature and id required items right now." I'd complain to myself before walking into the post office properly.

Seeing a few people in front of my, I'd get in line and pull my phone back out to check the news some as I wait. Not much really going on in the world, some new games coming out, religious types protesting the first attempt to turn on an actually view the fourth dimension, but, well, they did the same thing with the Hadron Collider too, didn't they?

"Next"

Stepping up to the counter I pull out my wallet. Taking my driver's license out I'd put it on the counter. "I'm here to pick up a package." Prattling off my name, and address, the clerk would confirm that to the license and then step away from the counter.

"Give me a minute to get it out for you."

Standing at the counter and waiting I'm startled by phones going off with an alarm. Pulling it up and expecting to see an amber alert but to my surprise it's something else.

"Imminent Threat? We aren't in active war with any one though and I don't think anyone is stupid enough to actively attack the United States. Pulled out of my thoughts as the clerk arrives with my package, she'd hold out a clipboard.

"Please sign for your package."

Complying with their request I'd sign then hand the clipboard back. Grabbing my phone and stuffing it into my pocket I'd ask "So, we good then?" and, upon getting a dismissive grunt in response I'd grab my package and head out. Going back out and putting the package in the trunk of my car I'd close, and, with the thunk of my trunk locking shut I'd be overcome with an absurd amount of pain.

Waking up with a panicked start, I'd be hit with the familiar scent of the incenses that are burned through the building so regularly. Laying and slowly trying to steady my breathing, I hear a familiar voice that both is, and isn't, my own.

"Bad dream again? Which one this time, the banana incident, the time you nearly drowned, ooh, ooh, what about wh-"

"It was the day everything got all fucky-wucky."

"Oh...yeah...that really sucked too. Hey, you know, if we stop with...this, and you finally fully absorb, well, me, it might help with that."

"We've been over this, if I do that, you'll be dead"

"And I keep telling you, I won't be, because I'll just be part of you. We're already like that physically, but just not in mind, memories, and spirit. For me it's like I get to be as lazy as I desire, and for you, it'll help you get better control of the abilities you got from me."

Grumbling some and finally getting up off the floor now that my heart has calmed down finally, and breathing has gotten stable.

"Okay...fine...we'll do that finally since you are oh so eager to be so lazy you don't even have a personality."

Heading to the bathroom and opening the medicine cabinet behind the mirror a, slightly glowing, blue vial would be the first thing I notice. The last dose of medication for Meshy types like me. This one will make me and, my mental, roomy fully one. Bracing myself and popping the dose, everything would spin around me for a while as I resist the urge to vomit I wait for the sensation to end. When it finally does, that familiar presence in the back of my mind is, finally, gone.

"I guess that's goodbye but...also not since...like you said you're just fully a part of me. I guess I need to get back to my preparations to leave then."

Heading back to the 'living room' of my apartment I'd turn on some music and finish my work on the side by side, putting it back together now that it's been properly cleaned and maintained. Pulling out a needle type token, I'd store it, storing the maintenance kit in a round leaf token I couldn't help but smile, the feeling of using the tokens now much more fluid and natural already. Looking at my hand some I can't help but marvel at how much of a change just listening to the other guy's advice has caused so quickly.

"Oh...fuck, will I have his taste too...god I hope not..."

Almost as if on que my stomach would rumble. Not wanting to make a mess right now, I figure it'd be a prime opportunity to eat out. Quickly heading back into the bathroom and washing up I'd change into some clean clothes, some shorts, long compression socks and worn trail shoes before slipping on a Hawaiian style shirt to head out enjoying the loose fit on the clothes as I tighten the belt I've put on. Loose clothes are much more pleasant when you are furred, but, it suck because if you shift the wrong way, it's way to easy to get a public indecency charge.

Stepping out into the hall and locking my door before heading out. Waving at some neighbors as I pass by them. Pulling out some wireless headphones I turn on some music as I head out to get some breakfast. Not really paying attention to the tunes I just try to get used to the new clarity of my senses as I wait for the 'free' wagon to pass to hitch a ride on to the downtown area.
