Upon entering Ernest’s home, Polly looked around and saw pictures on the wall of him and his wife, the woman she herself had saved, Gianna. The blonde walked closer to one where the couple held each other closely and smiled. Gianna’s kind smile was just as nice and warm as when she had met her. She was a really sweet woman, and Polly was glad she was getting the chance to see her again.
“You have a really nice home,” Polly commented as she turned her head to Ernest.
The old man chuckled. But before he could say anything, someone else said it for him.
“Thank you so much, dear,” The voice of Gianna’s came as she entered the room, a plate of finger sandwiches in her hands. “And welcome. You’re all just in time for sandwiches.”
“They look great as always, honey,” Ernest said, taking one and biting into it. “You two have got to try them.” He looked at the younger women. “Best finger sandwiches you’ll ever have.”
Polly hesitated for a moment, but she took off her mask. She knew the elderly couple were fine with her, but she couldn’t help but about the possibility of scaring them off.
Dolly just stood there, looking as Polly had just taken her mask off. Despite her own still being on, Polly had a feeling that her new friend had a surprised look on her face.
“It’s okay, Dolly,” Polly said. “These two are really nice.”
“No need to rush it if you don’t want too, sweetie,” Gianna added. “Polly hesitated for a moment as well there for a second so she herself is still getting used to it.”
“You can also lift your mask up only so your mouth will be able to eat it,” Polly pointed out as well. “I can get the sandwich for you.”
“I guess we can do that,” Dolly replied as she moved her mask up a bit to reveal only her mouth.
Polly smiled, grabbing two sandwiches for her and her friend. She gave Dolly one before taking a bite of her own. Her eyes lit up. “Wow! This is amazing!”

Dolly took a bite as well. Unlike Polly, she didn’t comment right away. Instead, she finished her sandwich before saying how she felt, “The bread is… something else.”
“Is that a good or bad thing, dear?” Gianna asked with a chuckle.
“…A good thing,” Dolly replied. “I’ve never had bread like that before.”
“Me neither,” Polly said.
“You must’ve never been to my wife’s place then,” Ernest laughed softly. “Because this is bread she made herself.”
Polly was surprised. Her eyes went to Ernest’s wife. “Really Gianna? You made this bread yourself?”
Gianna nodded. “I’ve been making bread since I was a child. I’ve always loved it. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to make my own bread that would make people just as happy as the bread I loved made me.”
Polly smiled after listening to that. It reminded him of Filbert and his own passion for making food. “My cousin likes doing things like that too. His dream is to become one of the best chefs ever.”
“Is that right?” Gianna asked with a smile. “Well, I’m sure he can get there if he continues working hard.”
“Filbert’s a very hard worker,” Polly smiled. “Always has been. I know he’ll get there before he knows it. Heck, if you ask me, he already is there. His cooking is the best.”
“Well, I have an idea,” Gianna said. “I never got to fully show my gratitude to you for saving me, so how about I give you some of my bread to take home? I’m sure Filbert can make you some nice, tasty sandwiches with it.” She chuckled.
“That would be great,” Polly said. “Thanks so much.”
“You saved me, Polly,” Gianna smiled at her. “It’s no problem at all.”
Polly was thrilled that Gianna was so willing to give her some of her precious bread. She knew she must’ve had to work hard to make it, and to just be so willing to give her some with no charge meant a lot to her. She was also right. Filbert would make good sandwiches with the bread, which was something Polly would look forward to when the time came.
“Here,” Dolly handed Gianna a piece of paper. The older woman took it and gasped at what she saw.
“My word…” Gianna didn’t know what to say as she gazed at the picture Dolly drew of her. “Did you-“
“Yes she did,” Ernest said. “I was gonna bring it up later but she drew one of my as well.” He pulled out his own picture and showed it to her.
“Wow,” Gianna took the picture and looked at both of them together. She smiled softly and looked at the artist. “Thank you so much, Dolly.”
Dolly shrugged. “Don’t mention it.”
Polly smiled at her friend. It seemed she was warming up a bit to the elderly couple.
“You two make a really great duo,” Ernest smiled at the two. “You may have not known each other long, but it’s not hard to tell.” He rubbed his chin in thought as the smile never left his face. “Not sure what they’ll call you two when it’s all said and done, but I know you’ll do a fine job protecting this town and changing it for the better.”
“Oh, we don’t need a name,” Polly chuckled. “We’re just happy to help.” She turned her head to the artist. “Right, Dolly?”
Dolly looked back at Polly. “Right.”
“Oh, are you two going to the Halloween festival in a couple of days?” Gianna asked. “It’s always such a good time, and we would love to see you two there.”
“Agreed,” Ernest wrapped an arm around Gianna.
“Are you kidding?” Polly asked. “I love the Halloween festival! Me and Filbert go every year.”
“Halloween festival, huh?” Dolly asked. The three nodded at her, causing the artist to chuckle. “You know what? I think I’ll go.”
