Prologue II

The sky danced wildly, performing spins and the craziest yoga routine you will ever see. Or maybe that was just my eyes.

[Graaah!]

My body was leaning on the side of the boat, currently, my face was emptying my stomach's contents into the blue ocean sea. It was morning and let's just say I have the worse headache because of last night.

I turned my body away from the now-dirtied sea and plopped onto the wet wooden floor. The sky was bright and the horizon spanned forever. I was alone

The bitter taste of vomit and alcohol flooded my mouth.

[Screw it.]

I slid to my guitar and spun it towards myself. I'm a one-man band now. Here in the ocean, playing solo. It's kinda serene and silent out here. I never noticed how tranquil the sea was.

[Loneliness...]

What do I do now? Play solo? But I don't know how to operate this ship alone. Join a band? Who could possibly match me? Retire... Maybe I should... Maybe.

[God damn it!]

I kicked the floor and zoomed upwards, clenching my guitar with extreme rage in my hands. I flipped the levels to the side and I soon commenced jamming. Angry jamming.

But before starting, I repaired my guitar strings with some scattered hair. It wasn't metal but it made a good conductor and it was durable enough.

I forcefully pulled and pushed the hair strands into place, releasing my pent-up irritation on my obsidian guitar. With one stone breaking downward thrust, the strings produced the cries of an innocent damsel lost in the sea.

Picture this, she was sitting on a rock wearing a white pure sundress, stranded of course. Just one girl with a golden voice. How charming you thought when you first heard her gentle music. But after experiencing her great chorus and wonderful lyrical talent, you decide to rescue her.

Because after all, why not? She was stranded and you, a human with fat juicy flesh, were in a ship capable of saving her. But what's this? She has a secret to tell you. What a mysterious sea-stranded maiden.

[GRAAAAAAAH!]

With extreme speed, my hand moved up and down roughly on the guitar. With every strum, it produced a high-pitched ear-shattering scream. With powerful sound waves leaving my guitar, I was drenched in sweat and peace.

Oh no! It looks like you were deceived by this maiden. She wasn't actually a frail, vulnerable beautiful girl lost in a sea, spanning for ages. She was a siren, a foul beast capable of luring innocent sailors and adventurers like you with her beautiful music. Oh, the humanity. Looks like it's gonna be salty fool for lunch today.

[Hahahaha! Woo hoo!]

With nonstop strumming, I harmonize the screams of the guitar with the screams of my heart.

[See! I don't need you scum. I can even produce these mindblowing sound waves! Sound waves... Just like Grim's]

My fingers dropped down and felt as rigid as a statue. My body felt cold and my heart ached. Why did the band breakup have to be so hurtful?

[...]

I rubbed the guitar's string and felt the substituted metal I used. Beautiful black silky smooth hair that came from a siren.

Wonderful creatures that create such emotion-driven screams. Their hair helped me recreate those charming lively vocals with just one strum of my guitar.

[But not as pleasant and emotional as Jean's vocal!]

I used all my arm strength to throw my guitar into the air. It spun majestically and wildly before falling down into the ocean, creating a massive splash.

[Stupid! I'm so stupid!]

Falling to my knees, my hands automatically danced toward my left pocket. It grabbed a cloth-covered container the size of my hand and twisted the cap off. It then immediately shoved its contents inside my mouth and I obliged.

I was drowning myself in alcohol again. My emotions were a mess, why am I so weak at my lowest times? I fell to the ground, my tears overflowing out of my eyes. I am pathetic

[...]

"Don't say that."

"You're great. You're perfect. You're the best."

[Shut up.]

"You're above everyone else."

"You're a God walking amongst mortals."

"You never needed them."

[Shut up!]

I got up from the ground and slashed behind me. A shadowy figure was struck which immediately dematerialized into gas. The gas circled me, creating a barrier that covered my vision and walled me in.

"Scarlet! Scarlet! Go Scarlet!"

[I don't need your pep talk!]

I jumped into the dark abyss and passed through onto a world of despair. Everything was covered in a white tint and slightly off human eyes formed the air. The ground was a never-ending abyss surrounded by monstrous cubes of flesh. My skin was as hot as flames and my mind bled out all my sanity.

With holes leading to nowhere and everywhere, multiple-faced inhabitants who all gave me looks of scorn, and hundreds of floating monuments, I was overwhelmed.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

I floated through space and encountered the one and true God this world has. A being the size of every single thought in all of reality compressed into one eyeball. With a metal frame and wet soft tendrils seeping everywhere, it faced me. It reeked of coal and its skin was rotting and melting, barely dangling on its behemoth body.

[You need to change Scarlet. This is not what I want]

----------------------------------------

I woke up with sweat covering my entire body, I was laying down in the middle of the ship. It was night and raindrops showered me cold. I grabbed my clothed bottle off the ground and pocketed it.

I examined the coins scattered everywhere. Treasure and artifacts of different sizes, biological appendages and substances were surrounding me.

I got up from my spot and immediately rushed toward the captain's room. I dashed through the broken door and climbed the staircase as fast as I can.

On top of the staircase was a wooden door locked from the inside. With no cares for anything I barged through the wall and jumped across a hole in the floor.

Reaching the other side of the room, I rummaged through the barrels and boxes. Breaking into any locks and throwing everything irreverent away.

But the objects I was trying to find weren't there. It was somewhere else. Somewhere familiar.

I jumped through the hole and ran across the ship. I slid across the wet floor and slammed myself into the wooden door of the ship. With little resistance, I broke it and entered the cabin.

I rushed down the stairs and entered the nearest room. Inside the room was multiple guitars, each guitar was worth a fortune and was constructed with different materials obtained from powerful creatures.

I grabbed the nearest one, a white guitar covered in golden ribbons with strings made from a broodmother's thread, and smashed it against the wall. I continued to the next guitar, and then the next, smashing all of my guitars into smithereens.

I stopped in front of one plain guitar. A guitar made from regular wood with strings that could be found on any dirt-cheap instrument. I grabbed it off the wall, wore its strap with the guitar hanging behind my back, and ran off the room.

[I have decided.]

I ran through the corridor, passing through places full of bittersweet memories. I knew this is my goodbye to this place but still, I can't help but cower in fear. I'm not ready to change but I must. I swung a door opened and entered with haste.

[It's time for me to leave.]

The room was filled with the stench of blood. It was overflowing with blades of all different sizes, some used for bones, some for fat, and all for cutting up the flesh of prey. This was Grim's personal room. I barely spent anytime here since I wasn't a fan of getting my clothes stained but still this room was important to me. It was full of memories.

I took one of the many cleavers and started bashing it against one of the walls. With my valiant effort, I carved out a hole. Inside the hole was a syringe wrapped in a purple ribbon.

----------------------------------------

"And that is how you gut a narwhal." He said while showing me his wonderful finished product.

[Thanks Grim but I'm not gonna be using this anytime you know."]

"There is a time and a place for every new knowledge you acquire, this will be important to you someday."

[Eh seriously?] I scratched my head and slapped him on the back. [Do you really think I would be found dead with an ungutted narwhal in my hands?]

"Yes."

He grabbed one of the many hanging blades off the wall and raised it into the air. "Now this is how you cut one up." With one sliced and diced, blood splattered everywhere.

"Stop hiding behind me."

[No thanks I don't want to get blood on me. These clothes are expensive you know."

"If you don't see, then you won't learn."

[But I don't need to learn because you will be always here with me. To cut all of those narwhals for me!]

"Heh." Grim let out a small chuckle while he slashed the meat apart. "Is that so?"

I took a small object out of my pockets.

[Hey, catch!]

"What is this?"

[Something important, worth a lot of money. Hide it for me.]

Grim punched one of the walls and placed the object inside the newly constructed hole. "I'll cover that up."

[Weird hiding spot but that's fine. Just don't forget to put a reminder or mark there, you can even use me as the mark.]

"Okay, I will put a star."

----------------------------------------

I rushed out of the room and entered another. It was a place covered in scattered papers and scribbles. But besides all the books and parchments was a bed of most excellent comfiness. My eyes darted everywhere, trying to find it.

This room was Jean's room. Saying it was a mess was an understatement. With multiple trinkets and artifacts laying about, one misstep of mine could possibly cost fortunes. But despite her chaotic sense of organization, deep down I knew I could trust her.

I passed all the built-up piles and boxes and walked over to the bed. Memories of painful and long lectures returned to me. I lifted the mattress up and took a small golden ball.

----------------------------------------

"So basically, in a stupid dumbed down term for you, space goes big all the time. So we can safely assume with its constant growth and by looking out at the stars, that we only inhabit a small part of the universe. So that's why I have been tryin-

[Sshh!] I cut off Jean's ramble and closed the book I was holding. [Truthfully, this is extremely boring.]

"But Scarlet, this is vital information, the cosmos is one of the most important fields of sciences that we should focus more on."

[Yeah-yeah I get that... Well, I don't, but come on. Why do I need to exactly help expand this field of science? I'm not smart in this kinda stuff.]

"That might be true... You do provide the equivalent help of a cat with four boots in a math competition, which is close to none."

[So I'm like a mascot? That's fine with me! As long as that cat is in the middle of the nerds, then I don't mind letting these dweebs bask in my greatness.]

"Sure, whatever you say." She said in an extremely monotone voice. "However that cat can still help me relax by letting me talk to them."

[So do you have anything cool for me, maybe even something as cool as me.]

"Get up from the bed. I will show you something really remarkable."

----------------------------------------

I closed the door behind me and charged toward another room. This time it was Bass' room. His room was special and different from ours. His room was clean and filled with basic living appliances.

His room gave me a sense of normality, which was a weird feeling of safety. Because I was afraid of change.

His room was easy to navigate. I just simply approached his table and opened a drawer. From inside, I took a picture and left the room.

----------------------------------------

"Checkmate."

[Grahh! Damn it! This isn't fair, you are way better at chess than me.]

Bass got up from his seat and arrange the pieces back to their proper location. "I'm average, you just suck."

[No that's not true. I'm bad? Please stop being so humble.]

"People who take long journeys in seas often get delusional. It has been 4 hours since our departure and yet you seem to be already manic."

[Nah uh... So Bass, you got any more games?]

"Well, I do have some cards but first. Why Bass? Just call me by my name."

[...]

"You do know it right?"

[Of course, I do... It's just that your name is.]

"Oh, is that the reason."

[Yeah... I'm not too keen on calling you... Thurman! Hahaha-haha! Why are you named Thurman?! That is so stupid! Seriously? Thurman!]

"Your name isn't any better, you know!"

[Well at least it's not Thurman! Hahaha, Thurman... Hey, what's that?]

"Oh, those?" He walked towards his desk and picked up a picture. "Just a picture of us four. Do you want one? I have multiple copies in my drawer."

[Nah. Why bother looking at a picture when I can look at the real deal? Right Bass?]

"Shut up."

----------------------------------------

I stood in the center of the ship. I looked up at the sky above and smiled. This is goodbye to this ship. If I want to move on, I need to start a fresh beginning, one where I am alone. But even now, I'm scared. I don't want to leave this ship alone. It's very precious to me.

So that's why let me just create some security. I jabbed the syringe at my hand and extracted a juicy amount of blood. I then stabbed the syringe onto the ship and grabbed the golden ball tightly.

I pressed a button on the side and threw it far away from me. With this, I am certain, our ship is safe.

[Command: Protect this ship!]

I took out a piece of paper from my breast pocket and unfolded it. [The sea breeze guides me to the unknown, but now I must go back home, the sailor's journey ends here, it's time to rest and heal, teleport!]

With one bright blue flash, I was gone and off on my journey. It was time for Scarlet to play her guitar, this time alone.
