I jolt up feeling an extreme jarring headache. Terrible day as usual. I open my eyes to see a towering structure. With some sort of concrete and glass, it imposes with it's size.
My name is Caden Davis. And I am what I believe myself to be a semi-sociopath.
While I may not remember what it means to be a sociopath, I do know it's not like I am a psychopath. I also don't really feel like looking up the definition of a sociopath.
"So, these are all the people that will face against Brumane? How tragic." A voice that sounds rather sonorous resounds rather close to my ears, causing my train of thought to be interrupted.
"Well, there's not much I can do about it. Phyriam said that the system is what does this. The purpose of such according to her, is to adapt every living being to the system's parameters. She did tell us as well that before they even started to act, the system would instantly introduce the world and it's inhabitants to the other world and it's inhabitants." I responded.
"But at least this time they stand a fighting chance." A heavy masculine voice sounds behind me.
"Indeed, but still, how unfortunate, how very unfortunate. There will still be a large amount of loss of life in this planet. Well, the sooner we complete the mission, the better." I mulled out loud.

A month huh? No. In our world. This world, it's almost 3 months. That's plenty of time.
But, alas. This is an actual challenge. Not easy. No sir.
"Found anything yet, Lulili?" I speak into an amulet.
"No. There are no signs of any Sustainors in this city. This isn't my forte. Do it yourself." The amulet's gem faded in color.
"True concept? More like a fucking buggy concept. Can't even find a single trace of them." Running my mouth off, I stand up and look down at the streets.
"What if they are Legend rank like her though? That may be why Lulili was forced onto you by the higher entities instead of them allowing you to pick from three." The sonorous voice echos by my ear.
"You words indeed make sense. After all, having her in our party bolstered our luck to scary levels."
"Have you forgotten what fortune means?" A voice sounds from the amulet. Shit, I forgot to turn it off.
"On another topic it would be nice if the enemy was using modern weaponary. In this planet, it will be a challenge to maintain such weaponary. They wouldn't have the same intricacies in kinetic weaponary as they do here and if they were to use an energy weapon, then they would draw attention from all over the world as energy weapons have a much larger capacity than anything small that uses power here." I say, thinking to myself.
"They can still power their energy weapons by themselves if they were a user of a certain power like a lightning mage. But for the kinetic weapons, that is true since materials that can be found normally on Brumane are extremely rare on untransformed worlds like this one." A voice sounds from the amulet once again.
"But if they were able to do that, you would've found them a long time ago." I say inconsiderately.
"...That's true."
"Luchi, have you been able to find anything in the deep recesses of this city's government?" I say in an attempt to move away from the current topic since it wouldn't do us any good.
Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.
"It appears that the government is hiding something from what I've seen. I've retrieved logs of data containing the word "otherworlder" but, they've all been corrupted so far."
"Found anything strange yet Robin?"
"Nope, I haven't found anything that would be weird in a world without magic. It is interesting that these people use the universal measurement system instead of whatever measuring system worlds like these usually have."
"Well, onto progression it is then, Rika, found anything that we could do without the need of "job experience" that is legit?"
"As annoyingly it is, I have finally managed to find a good paying job that isn't illegal and can help us accrue materials. We already know how to build working servers, and doing labor in this world privately isn't difficult at all thanks to our magic powers, but to think that we can't just get the materials so easily."
"It's this kind of world. Anyways, what do you have for us Rika?"
"Some of these jobs are as interesting as the jobs in our own world. Some of them can have an impact later on. Majority of them happen to be self-employed jobs." Rika says as she shows us a list on the screen of her device that isn't connected to anything.
Job Lists
Streamer - A long-term job where one streams a type of content to people. Predicted pay: Dependant on job occupant.
Author - A job where you write stories and share it in a form of either digital media or physical form like in our world. Predicted Pay: 100k in country's currency.
Material Salesman (Needed) - A job where you buy and sell materials. We need this one to purchase the materials we need, and could be helpful if paired with someone who can find materials and dig it out. According to this world, there are untouched veins under the ocean. DO NOT sell our valuable materials. Only use the ones in this world. We will need to complete security checks before you can do this. Predicted Pay: 1M+ in country's currency.
Ocean Miner - A job where you can mine underwater using our technology that surpasses this world. Just make sure to be modest in extraction rates. Predicted Pay: 5M+ in country's currency. (Needs to be sold to a company with the highest pay
Artist - A job like in our world, express your artistic feelings. Predicted Pay: ???
Private Detective (Caden) - This is automatically assigned to Caden so that he can find the illegal sustainor. Predicted Pay: Depends on him.
Medical Worker (Luchi) - This is automatically assigned to Luchi as Luchi's Ki can be completely harmless to the inhabitants of this planet and can even be used for medical use. Predicted Pay: 500k in this country's currency.
Music Artist- A job where one...
Well then... Quite the amount we can pick from. Two are interesting, but they aren't exactly efficient in making money. The projected pays are how much we can make before our time is up. We have much less time since a day on this planet is much shorter. And that time doesn't include the time to build a quantum-level server.
"We don't have time to build up a reputation in this world. Although we are awake much longer than the average human in this world, we have much less time in this world than we would in our own world. Hence, not a lot of jobs are available." Rika informed. "Also, we can't use our magic to manipulate the people in this world, because it is extremely harmful to them. In fact, our very presence is poisonous to them. The only reason why we aren't harming anyone is because we have been given permission by Phyriam and she veiled our mana so that it doesn't have any indirect affect on this planet. So the same can't be said for the illegal sustainor. He or she is most certainly killing everything on the planet, no matter where he goes."
"We don't need much for the quantum-level server as we already have the best materials for it." Luchi said. "We only need a piece of land to dig into and we can start building it. We do need a coolant for our server however, and to get out word, we need an advertisement. We need money for both of those. With our technical skills, we can easily blend into society and fake our identities. But with us being limited on magic, we can't just fake a reputation."
"And if we we're to exploit magic on the people, Phyriam would know and our rewards would be deducted." I finalized. "Not only that, our magic would actually kill people. Using magic would get us nowhere and would instead make it harder for us."
The moment after, we already have decided which jobs to take on. As for why I am going to be a private detective, it is because of one of my skills, Somnium Memory.
Somnium Memory
Your memory has been refined to the point of near transcendance, you were either born this way or grown this way. When you reach the level cap of this skill, you will reclaim all memories and will remember every little detail of a memory no matter what happened to you. You can access this memory within your mind whether you are dreaming or awake. When you reach Ascendance while at the skill's level cap, you will gain something special. With this skill, all memories are organized and you will even completely remember your dreams. This skill allows you to earn skill experience from practicing skills in dreams. With this skill, you can gain occupation/path experience from exterminating monsters in your dreams.
Another useful thing I have gained from this skill is a unique skill, Forebodding Dreams.
Forebodding Dreams
Your dreams have shown you the way to the future.
From what I've understood, Forebodding Dreams isn't actually easy to use. In fact, it would be extremely difficult to utilize without my memory skill being at least "Dream Memory". The skill that my Somnium Memory is evolved from. With my near perfect memory, and my great deductive skills, I am the best person to take on this job.
For other Staff members, they would have much trouble with this quest compared to me. Every staff member besides me is a rank lower or two, being Either Emperor or Sovereign rank. My aides are at Sovereign rank so it would be safe to say that my party is currently the strongest.
I've heard from Phyriam however, there is one staff member who is still at Trivial rank somehow... She didn't tell me why, but she only made me aware of it's existence. It's quite mysterious, after all this turmoil, especially those Blood Moons. They happen every year and we've been here for eight years.
Unless that person is in a pocket dimension or stuck in a sacred dungeon, there's no way it wouldn't encounter and have to fight a demon. Those demons are rather ferocious in the wilderness.
Now, to address the Quest, there's an interesting thing that the color of the window indicates the difficulty of the quest. I've only heard there being seven different colors that the window can appear in however so there may be more, this is the order from easiest to hardest: blue, green, light green, yellow, orange, and red. I'm convinced there are higher difficulties however.
But nevertheless, I haven't seen/heard of anymore colors. Perhaps the other staff members are keeping it a secret since there is actually quite a bit of competition and some of the staff members are rather selfish. Especially that one cultivator staff member. He's extremely secretive and I've heard he's founded Miracle Grand yet he hasn't told anything about it to us.
Can't wait to kill him to insult him. We rarely meet however, and when he respawns, I doubt he will do anything to retaliate.
Anyways, to focus on my given job, I left the rooftop of the skyscraper I was on. How did I get off? I just jumped off.
A 800 meter drop is no problem to someone like me. I could even survive a 5 km drop with no damage.
Of course I did this without being noticed. Would be troublesome if someone were to think I were some super human.
I went to a building that we bought on the first day of coming here. It's a two story building that doesn't look very big, but it's big enough for me it doesn't look great either but I'm fine with it.
I opened the door and went in without hesitation. Inside, there was a desk with a laptop on it.
It's a laptop from this world since I wasn't interested in using my personal one that's extremely high-tech. It would be troublesome to adapt the laptop to this world's technology. So I'm not going to utilizing my personal laptop.
I left my duffel coat on a hanger that is nailed to the wall and sat down behind the desk. I powered up the laptop and waited for the startup to finish.
This laptop is rather shit... I would only have to wait for barely a second for my laptop to finish starting up. This one is taking minutes...
After waiting out the startup process by complaining inside, the laptop finished and I opened up a browser. I went to a mailing website and opened up my emails. There was nothing there with the exception of Rika and Luchi's emails that were sent to this computer.
Rika's email was information of the illegal sustainor. She retrieved information from the government about any classified information since there should be an incident of the illegal sustainor's arrival.
It mentioned that a child died after getting into contact with a mysterious man while she was in the hospital. The hospital suffered major damages to it's infrastructure and nearly collapsed.
That sounds about right. It's not weird for an illegal sustainor to do that much damage.
Now for Luchi's email; It's a completely useless email of picture of a box with an image of a giant robot. I hold my head and sigh.
And with that, I close the laptop and went upstairs. I cooked myself a simple meal and ate it.
I then went to sleep to end the day. The bed was surprisingly comfortable.
