Blight and Blood (II)

Blight and Blood (II)

A battle like no other started in its raging wake as the two powerful Titans unleashed each of their respective magic and battle wits to bring down the opposition that is one another.

Kain Pethros, known for being quite brash in his combat tactics, naturally made the match's first move. Conjuring a black dagger from seemingly out of nowhere, Kain suddenly cut off his wrist, resulting in an unnatural and massive blood loss that defied anything that logic taught him and Conrad back when they were still students of the old Academy.

The blood began swirling rapidly in the air, like a red liquid tornado of death that would crush anything in its path. Then the blood stopped its rotation and split into many splashes to the ground. The parts where the blood has dropped next started forming into multiple entities made solely of the life ichor that Kain has formed.

Even if Conrad wanted to charge right in or cast an offensive projectile spell to stop whatever was going to happen, he knew that his efforts would be futile. Kain’s sinister Blood Magic served as both offense and defense, and the rotating blood will only suck him to his demise if he got too close. If he chose his second option of firing a spell, then the attack will simply be ineffective, even with his own powerful Blight magic on par with Kain.

‘Blood Army.’ Conrad thought with a grimace upon witnessing the dark spell that Kain has cast. The Blood Magic took shape in the form of Kain’s humanoid blood-red figure. ‘A spell of Kain’s unique magic of the Blood. The bastard always has a knack in anything that involves the dark arts. I should tread lightly. Getting the clone in contact with my skin shall cause a serious burning sensation that would weaken and eventually kill me.’

“Well, Conrad. Are you just going to stand there and gawk at my glorious creations? I do hope that you’ll make this entertaining for the sake of what the scribes are going to write of us.” Kain provoked his rival with a taunting hand gesture.

Without a second thought, Kain mentally commanded his Blood Clones to attack Conrad. Each of the clones wielded different kinds of weaponry, ranging from swords, spears, axes, and yes, even range weapons like bows and javelins.

Conrad reacted accordingly and retreated tactically from the Blood Clone’s merciless onslaught. The clones possessed no emotions, and they only knew nothing but the purpose instilled in them by their caster, the purpose of vanquishing their target by any means necessary. They also appeared to be capable of adjusting in the heat of battle, displaying formidable combat logic and reflexes equal to veteran warriors. As a result, Conrad, despite his many experiences on the battlefield, had some trouble in keeping up with his dodging. Since the clones are a crucial threat if Conrad chose to engage in melee, he decided to adjust his battle style in consideration of the fighting scene. As such, he chanted the spell mentally that would serve him greatly in this dangerous battle of his. However, the downside of this spell is that the mage should chant the incantation at a slow pace, or the spell won’t work as it’s intended. Such is one of the factors of spell-casting, a determinant that would either spell a mage’s success or downfall in the heart of combat.

‘By the nature of opposing forces,’

A powerful slash came from the right as Conrad leaned his head behind gracefully to avoid the attack and retreated a few paces.

‘Light and Darkness, yield to my unwavering resolve-’

The Blood Archers and Skirmishers drew their blood-red arrows and javelins, respectively, firing a hail of blood projectiles that is a sight to behold from above. The arrows and javelins paved forth menacingly like a rain of death, making their way to the Blight Wizard as if a sure mark that has been followed. Conrad started to feel the disadvantage of how slow he must utter every word of the incantations for it to be a success.

‘-and fuse into single daunting theurgy that would strike her enemies-’

While still in his recitation of the magic chant, Conrad immediately conjured his own weapon, a blue staff with a purple orb on its upper part and a sharp blade attached on the other end below. With his masterful handling of polearm weaponry, the Blight Wizard spun his staff to deflect every projectile coming at him. He now successfully bided his time in chanting the next final words that would complete his spell configuration with his defensive action.

-Blight Magic: Arrows of Nephilim.’

The spell immediately took effect, granting Conrad a purple Magic Circle that followed literally behind him at his utmost behest.

Kain merely grinned madly at the impressive display of martial expertise and magic by his old friend, rival, and nemesis.

‘Heh, typical Conrad.’ Kain thought with glee at the prospect of the entertaining challenge to come for him. ‘Chanting the magic words flawlessly in his mind while still performing feats of intricate martial movements is something that many Mages fail due to the extreme mental and physical demand that accompanies it.’

The clash between the two Titans then resumed in its eventful stir, with both combatants assuming their own magic to force one another in submission or annihilation.
