Chapter 17: The Aftermath

Chapter 17: The Aftermath

Faith lay on the cold marble floor, heaving slow, deep breaths. The bullet had gone through her forehead. As Faith blinked her eyes and let the world fade from her, she prayed, “Whatever happens, don’t let Willow get hurt.” At the same time, Willow and her fellow prisoners were stressing over the safety of the girl who had saved their lives.

“May God be with her,” Willow’s mom whispered. But, as Faith took her last breath, Willow felt a pain in her heart. Kneeling on the floor, the world turned cold and dark. Feeling as though she was being taken from the ground, Willow felt the cobblestone floor for something she could hold on to. Willow was floating from the world, struggling to pull herself down.

“Willow!” Willow woke up to her mom calling her from the jail cell next to her.

“What happened?” Willow asked in a dark voice.

“You were screaming hun,” Willow’s mom said, “are you okay?”

“Yeah,” Willow said, “I just had a vision, like the one I had when dad died. I was floating from the earth, unable to pull myself down.”

“Aww, honey,” Willow’s mom said, worried what that could mean.

It took a minute for Willow to reflect, but soon enough Willow was balled up on the ground, crying to her heart’s content for she knew she had now lost another one of the people she was closest to.

“She saved our lives!” Willow cried. “We have to do something!” With everyone in agreement, the prisoners were going to avenge Faith’s death. That night as Willow fell asleep on the hard cobblestone floor one thought soothed her to sleep. May she Rest In Peace with her mother.
