With the advent of virtual reality came the Runners. Unlike the speedrunners of the past, this current generation focused on grinding a character's levels, skills, and abilities to a high degree in order to sell the character to the highest bidder - the faster the better. The Runners were scorned as opportunistic and greedy by most players. The consensus believed the right way to play was to take the time to fully immerse yourself in the game, to befriend the NPCs, and actually care about the fictional world they played in. Ha! What a joke. I'm Nick, and I'm a Runner, a pretty good one if I do say so myself. I never really thought that this would be what I would do for a living, I don't even like virtual reality in the first place! Frankly, the idea of wasting your life in a fictional world makes me sick. That's why all I do is grind the characters, and I leave the mushy roleplay to the chumps I sell the profiles to. This type of arrangement is fine by me. I was so close to retiring, leaving virtual reality behind me for good! Then I died. Just when I was thinking that I had a good run, some goddess lady pops up and tells me I'm reincarnating and into a game world, no less! Now I'm supposed to atone for my past life in this screwed up fantasy land. I'll show her! I'm gonna escape this stupid situation somehow, just you wait!
