Volume I - Prologue

"Uggh..."

My breath is rough.

The blood on my left arm's injury is flowing continuously without stopping, my vision is starting to blurry with the drops of water on my face from the rain as well as the dizziness on my head that won't stop due to the loss of blood, but still, I need to keep walking towards the forest.

That guy is probably still inside the forest, even though I won't be able to chase after him since he was in a carriage, there is no way I can let him go with my little sister.

Aaah... My body is weakening...

The weight of my body becomes heavier and heavier, the effort I need to put to make one step is increasing step by step... With this peace... No, I need to keep walking forwards... For my dear little sister...

I don't know how many times I've been walking but I still keep walking forwards. Just when I was about to faint, I suddenly saw a carriage.

Approaching closer and closer with the hope that it was the same carriage that I was chasing after, I put a little more effort to not faint from the pain and the dizziness and started walking towards the carriage with all of my remaining strength.

Aaah... I'm too late.

Looking at the destroyed carriage, I searched for my little sister. There were two corpses lying on the ground, from the size of the corpses, they must be the two guards who accompanied that guy.

I couldn't find that guy nor my little sister corpse, they probably survived the attack, with that reasoning, I looked for footprints near the carriage. With this rain, there must be footsteps of these two somewhere.

Hearing a sudden growl from my back, I turned my head. A group of wolves was surrounding me.

Unsheathing my sword, a sudden strong determination arises within my body.

"I can't die in that kind of place! Hina, wait a little longer!"

With my shout resounding the surroundings, I charged towards the wolves.

One of them jumped at me, from the size of the wolf and the look of his eyes, he must be the leader of the group of wolves. Following him from behind, the others ran towards me.

*Clang*

Slashing diagonally towards the alpha wolf, a huge sound resounded. The alpha wolf stopped my sword with his jaw, this is bad, this wolf is strong and I don't have enough strength left for a long-term combat.

With that thought, I clenched my teeth and tried to swing the alpha wolfs who was still hanging my sword with his jaw in mid-air towards the others wolves behind him.

The alpha wolf which was blown away towards his fellow comrades stood up and chase after me who ran away from them.

Without any strength left in my body, I slipped because of the mud created by the continuous downpour and fell on the ground.

Aaah... I'm going to die here without saving my dear little sister...

With that last thought, I fainted.

♦♦♦♦♦

Erm... What a realist dream... For me to dream about the prologue of Runes of Magic, the reason to that must be probably because I played too much yesterday.

When did I even fall asleep?

Oh yeah right, I was waiting for my childhood friend, Kosuke to finish his club's activity, then I fell asleep on my desk.

In that case, why do I feel like I'm lying in a bed instead of being sitting on my desk?

Slowly opening my eyes, I saw an unknown roof made from woods.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

This is definitely not the classroom. While having that certitude, I tried to get up but felt pain all over my body.

"You should rest a little more, your body is in a really bad state."

Hearing a rough voice next to me, I turned my head.

A blond man in his thirties was sitting on a chair looking at me with amazement.

"You're a tough one, aren't you? With all those wounds you received in addition to the blood you've lost while I was carrying you, it's a miracle that you're still alive."

"Where is Hana? I must save her!"

I instinctively shouted.

"You really think you can move in this state? You should just be glad to be still alive."

After hearing the blond man speaking, I regained my composure.

From the feeling of the pain all over my body, it doesn't seem to be a dream.

Looking at the blond man carefully, my eyes widened.

This blond man was Wiliam Fjord, the knight commander of the Nirvun's kingdom.

Am I really in the world of Runes of Magic? The blond man confirmed my thought.

"Oh right, I forget to introduce myself. I am Wiliam Fjord, the knight commander of the Nirvun's kingdom. During my investigation, I found you unconscious in the forest surrounded by wolves."

Which means that I am...

Looking at the window on my right, the face of a young boy could be seen from the window. The young boy had white long hair and a feminine face. Coupled with his beautiful purple eyes and his high pitch voice that hadn't matured yet, anyone who meets this charming young boy for the first time could mistake him for a girl.

"Ciel...Claus."

The face of the young boy was one of the protagonist of the game Runes of Magic, Ciel Claus reflected through the window.

"Hey young girl, it's not really polite to introduce yourself without looking at the person himself."

Wiliam said while scratching his head, upon hearing a sudden gurgling from my stomach he sighed, then stood up from his chair and said.

"Just wait a little bit, I'll go get you the rabbit stew I've prepared while you were sleeping."

After less than one minute, the knight commander came back with a wooden plate. After roughly finished eating the rabbit stew given by the knight commander, I said.

"Thanks for the foods."

This body doesn't seem to have eaten for a long time, the bowl of rabbit stew was large enough for an adult to fulfill his stomach but I was still hungry even after finishing my plate. Since it was impolite to ask for more, I restricted myself from doing so.

The knight commander Wiliam who was waiting until that I finished eating asked.

"So, can you tell me what happened to you and the carriage? You see, I was actually looking for the owner of the carriage, Krieg Zackary but I only found his guards and you instead."

Recollecting what I experienced during the dream, I explained.

"I'm sorry, I don't know either what happened to the carriage... I was chasing after the carriage because of its owner who kidnapped my little sister. When I arrived there, only the corpses of the two guards remained. Searching for any clues that could lead to that guy, I was surrounded by a group of wolves."

Without knowing the reason, I felt hatred towards Krieg Zackary while thinking about him.

"Hmm... I see. So that's what happened. I investigated the carriage with my troop but we were not able to track Krieg from his escape. Thank you for your cooperation, you should rest in this house until you fully recover."

Wiliam who was in deep thought after hearing my explanation nodded and said. Then he stood up and directed toward a door and was about to leave the house.

"Wait! Let me come with you! I need to save my little sister from this bastard."

I shouted instinctively, feeling that Wiliam won't come back anymore after leaving the house. Wiliam stopped moving and said after a sigh without turning his head.

"Can you even walk? I already told you. Stay in that house until you fully recover."

'There is no way I'm going to rest without knowing my sister's whereabouts!'

Hearing such a shout inside my mind, my body tried to stand up from the bed instinctively, but the wounds on my body were too severe and I ended falling on the ground.

Wiliam, who somehow guessed that I fell from my bed turned his head and walked towards me, he then unsheathed his sword, pointed it at me and said with a menacing tone.

"You're only seeking death by trying to follow me in your conditions. I can fulfill your wish right now if you want to die at this point."

After glaring me for a moment, he realized that I was determined enough to risk my life and finally sheathed his sword.

"Fine, just drink that potion and follow me."

Wiliam sighed and after throwing a glass vial with a red liquid inside next to me, he said.

After leaving the house, we went back where the destroyed carriage was and searched for several hours but couldn't find any clue about Krieg Zackary nor my sister whereabouts.

Finally giving up, Wiliam carried me and head back to the village located next to the forest.

My body wasn't recovered entirely so I couldn't escape him. After my body finally gave up resisting, we returned to the wooden house where we were and decided to rest since it was late and we couldn't see anything inside the forest.

The next morning, I woke up and realized that Wiliam was already gone.

From the talk we had before sleeping, he probably returned to the capital to report about the investigation.

As for me, I decided to head to the neighboring village. Realizing that I could no longer wake up from that "dream" of mine.

There was still something that needed to be done in the neighborhood village according to the story and it was an important event before heading towards the capital.

It was also an important event for Ciel Claus, the meeting of a second support character Sylvia as well as a new power that could be obtained inside the neighboring village, the Windrunner Village.

For now, I can't still find the reason why I'm trapped inside this game, but it doesn't really matter. Because right now, I was no longer Satoshi Nakamoto, but Ciel Claus.
