Chapter 1 - The day he met the Twins

[Clak clak CLAK clak Clak] was the sound of the keyboard being pressed quickly by a person with dexterous fingers who likely had been trained by time.

“Sigh, I’m tired of this sh*t. Please, God. Just let me go to another world already. Oh, and please give me an ultra-cheat ability!”

The person who had been typing for quite a while had been feeling the stress of working his brain to the fullest. He muttered his complaints in a low, mocking voice to a God whose existence has not been verified. Although the part about the cheat ability was somewhat lively and hopeful.

“Unnnaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!”

He stood up and immediately stretched his muscles after having decided to put off writing for the day. He looked left and right as if in search of something.

“Ah! There it is!”

He began slowly walking towards the book the very moment he found it. Each step powered his heart with the desire to absorb all the knowledge contained in the said book. Then again, what useful knowledge would he get by reading a fictional story?

“Even fictional stories have a lesson of their own. On top of that, they are fun to read, unlike those boring newspapers.”

He reasoned to no one in particular. He developed the habit of talking to himself and the air around him as the time he spent alone has piled up over the years.

The first thing that he did upon getting his hands on the book was to slowly touch its cover with his right hand as he enjoys its illustration. Memorizing every detail contained in it.

Afterward, he sat down on his bed as he was getting ready to open the book. As a book lover, he tends to smell the paper as he slowly navigates through the pages before he begins reading.

“Nothing beats physical books. Screw you! E-books and digital novels!”

He was by no means one who should talk bad about digital books. After all, He IS a web novel author, but he didn’t seem to realize it at that point in time. The only thing he cared about was to read the book that was on his hands at that very moment. Nourishing his mind and soul with every character that forms the words written in the book.

[Tok, tok, tok]

He was just beginning to immerse himself in a different world from his reality when someone suddenly knocked on his door.

“Tch, what is it? I’m in the middle of work here.”

He spoke to the person behind the door in an annoyed voice.

“Work my ass. I bet you’re just reading novels. Or maybe your eyes are basking in pleasure as you read your lewd doujins in secret. Come on, you should stop fantasizing and just get a girlfriend already!”

Said the person who was behind the shut door. The owner of the voice was clearly a girl of matured age. It contained a touch of femininity in it but with enough commanding power to shake the man’s heart into submission.

“Damn big sis. What does she need anyway?”

He stood up and headed straight for the doorknob. The view of his sister’s face peeked at him as he opened the door. Long, straight black hair that is tied at the back, a charming face that cannot be called cute but is closer to the word “beautiful” had bestowed its presence at him. He is slightly taller than his sister, but his sister is quite tall, too.

“What do you need? Hurry up with it.”

The guy said in a soft, but obviously annoyed voice. He wore a frown as he asked.

“Heh heh! You’ve got visitors.”

Said the beauty that was in front of him.

“Visitors? Who would visit me? I haven’t had any connection to the outside world for a couple of years now.”

Asked the guy.

“Riel, you shouldn’t make your visitors wait. Don’t be rude to them. Come, come!”

The sister spoke in an energetic and excited voice as if she was about to witness something that she’s longed for a long time. She dragged him by the hand in order to lead him at the front door.

“Tsch, who would visi-”

He was scratching his head as a way to show his annoyance, but his world; and perhaps his heart temporarily stopped when he saw his visitors.

“T-twins..?”

He looked back and forth to the two visitors in front of him. He didn’t recognize them which means that it was their first meeting, but that wasn’t what shocked him the most. His visitors were two cute young teenage girls who closely resemble each other. Or maybe “closely resemble” still doesn’t quite give it justice. In other words, the two look exactly the same. Long, free and untied hair extending down to their middle back. The twins bear short frames compared to Riel and his sister's taller stature. Oval-shaped faces that bear doll-like features that people would consider to be very cute. The only difference that the twin sisters had was their varying expression. One wore an active expression with sparkles in her eyes while the other wore a meek, flushed expression as she looked down to the ground.

He didn’t expect that his visitors would end up complete strangers to him, add to the fact they look really sheltered and well taken care of which means they are probably from a rich family.

He experienced quite the mental and emotional overload which resulted in him looking flustered, shy and nervous all at once. After holing himself at home for a good 5 years, he just can’t handle peer pressure quite as good as before anymore.

“Ah! Are you Riel Miurick?!”

Asked the twins with a wide smile on their faces as if they’ve seen a hero.

“I…. I am. Who are you guys?”

He asked them back upon confirming his identity, but he didn’t know how to properly speak. He ended up asking them in a rude way, but the twins didn’t seem to care at all.

“I am Runa Mythria Laganda.”

Said the one to the right with an active voice that suggested that she has an outgoing personality.

“Luna Evernight Laganda.”

While the one to the left was the opposite of her sister. She had a soft and gentle voice that was quite meek. She was trying to hide her face by borrowing her sister’s back. Riel found her voice and facial expressions to be really cute, but he was being in denial with himself.

“Runa…. And Luna….”

As Riel pronounced their names, a forgotten shard of memory from his childhood had resurfaced. It was a memory that he’d rather forget for the rest of his life, but there’s no use. Two ghosts from his past had decided to come back in order to haunt him. He held his mouth as if he wanted to puke.

[They are probably going to sue me for naming them like that.] were the words running on his head. His brows formed a frown while his eyes showed a sign of guilt as he looked at his feet as if caught in a crime. His hands layed down without any strength.

“H-he doesn’t seem happy to meet us…”

Said the meek Luna who felt a needle in her heart. But the active Runa won’t give up just like that. She stole both of Riel’s hands as she said,

“Nice to meet you! Thank you for naming us. Thank you for being there when we were born!”

The Riel who heard Runa’s appreciative words felt like crying for some reason, but he was too shy to do so in front of the twin. He decided to play the tough act and smiled smugly in front of the twins.

“Well, stuff happened. Don’t worry about it.”
