Chapter 5.5 Records of a King

Greetings, My name is Sebastian IX, King of the capital Rjokallem, land of Endeara.

Today, I had quite the fortuitous encounter.

First, my son informed me of how he had annulled the engagement. I was surprised at first, but it was not unfortunate. I had long planned to break the engagement, but never found a reasonable excuse.

My son, was always a good hearted human, and could not bear sight to injustice. So, even though my heart ached for him, he would still choose to be with that bastard child.

It was my fault, that he had to undergo such hardships. Many years ago, If I had known that she was the daughter of a servant, I would have never accepted the proposal.

But at that time, I was still immature.

I made a promise to the dukes son, and soon after he perished. Bound to his last words, it was hard for me to overturn the engagement.

At least we could bind the dukes household to us, I thought.

What really astonished me, was that that child, Agnes, had pleaded for an audience. Normally, I would have shown it no heed, but the marriage was of no small matter. Even though she was unimportant, her family was not.

More importantly, I was intrigued by what she was going to say. Well, if it was some nonsense, I would just appropriately punish her.

-

My thoughts immediatly perished after I met her.

As we exchanged glances, I felt cold sweat running down my back.

Her Ice cold gaze shook my very foundation. Those eyes, I had seen them many times as a king.

Those were eyes forged from numerous hardship and surpassing countless of others.

An executioners eyes, is what I call them.

Eyes, that held contempt towards humanity, eyes, which said, they stood above everyone. That's what they implied.

Such an intense gaze was shot by a 15 year old girl.

I can't help but shudder.

Absolutely beautiful.

I can't help feeling excited. What she must have gone through, I can't begin to imagine.

I would know, after all, we have the same eyes. Still, mine aren't close to the darkness she is hiding within her.

Finally, after all these years, I had found my kin. And it was such a young girl, too.

That's why I can't help feeling excited.

Soon, she started explaining her circumstances.

I was sure that she was lying.

I may not know her purpose, but there was no way that she would sacrifice herself for the nation.

A person like her, would never care about something like that. I'd rather believe that pigs fly, than that she was a patriot.

Such a person, would only care about themselves. They are all egoistic traitors. That's the only way to survive after all.

Still, her logic was flawless. I was sure, that even if I rebutted, she would have several excuses already lined up. With just a few sentences, that girl had perfectly set up an escape route for herself.

No matter what happens from now on, she would not have to take the blame for it. A clean sweep.

I wonder, If we had a debate on even grounds, who would win?

I though to myself that such a talent had to be brought to my side at all cost. Before I knew it, I had already conferred her the title of an Archduke. It may have been a bit whimsical from me, but I was moved from her display today.

However, I know, that even though anyone else would be happy for the title, that girl would not be.

A title, after all, is useless for someone like her. She probably might have found a better use if I gave her something that allowed her to move independently.

Well, that's the punishment for lying to me.

Afterwards, I promptly left the palace. There was still a lot of work to do.

On my way back, I couldn't help but think about her.

When she gets home, I'm sure she will have a lot of enemies.

There will be many who underestimate her and in the end get swallowed whole. I already pity them.

More importantly though, there will also be some, who can compete against her. I'm sure if such an encounter would ever happen, a storm will lay waste to the whole world.

No, maybe the clouds had already assembled.

I wonder what little schemes she has planned. Thinking about it, I can't help looking forward to the future.

Maybe I should have let her marry the third prince after all.
