Kyagie was only fifteen years old.He held his younger sister close to him to keep her warm.Sheri was only nine years old.All they had to keep them warm was their old wooden barm and bundles of hay. They were sitting in the corner of an empty horse tall. The only light they had was an oil lamp.It only lit up a very small portion of area.Their parents never let them stay in the house unless it was to eat,or bath.
Kyagie was barely five feet tall and was extremely malnourished. The only bright side to his small weight i it helped him run away quicker and sneak around better. He had long black hair that flowered down to his lower back and golden eyes. His parents and people in general always treated him like he wasn't human because of his eye color. His pale skin was covered in bruises that were all in various stages of healing.
His little sister wasnt much better off.She was also malnourished. She didn't have as much bruises thanks to her older brother protecting her the best that he possibly could. She had brown eyes and medium length brown hair. Her kimono was torn, frayed, and was starting to become to small for her to wear. She let out a long spell of hacking as she had a coughing fit.Her cough seemed to be getting worse this year. The frigid cold weather at night irritated her lungs more.
"It will be alright. In a few more days you will feel better."Kyagie smiled at her under the light of the flames. He took off his outer blue robe and covered both her and himself. She didnt say anything, because she didn't understand words and didn't talk. She had severe brain damage due to an accident when she was three years old.She had been trampled by a spooked horse that saw a mouse. She happened to be in front of the horse when it reared it's feet up and rained hooves among her frail body.It was a true miracle she survived. Her own mother didn't even try to save her.Instead their mother dug a hole and buried her alive in it.Kyagie went behind his mother's back and dug her out of the grave. Her managed to revive her and return her breathing to her.He hid Sheri in the barn, but it didn't take his parents long to find out.

They had been furious and beat him within' an inch of his life. However, they realized after beating him that they could use Kyagie's weakness for his sister against him. They decided to let him nurse his sister back to life.Instead of responding she just smiled and nodded her head. She hugged him tightly and snuggled into his shoulder. It was still too cold.He grabbed a hunk of bedding and laid it on top of the both of them.Eventually, they both fell asleep in the early am hours. The next afternoon Kyagie and his sister were woke up by a cold bucket of water.Luckily,it was alot more warmer now,so they didn't have to worry about freezing to death,or getting sick.He cowered in the corner of the stall and pushed his little sister behind his back to shield her from harm. His father stood in front of him at 6'7 and with cold black eyes. His father looked alot like himself. The eye color and height was the only noticable difference.
"I expect you to bring back 5,000 today.Ifyou don't,then you little shits dn't get to eat tonight. You got it?"He glared satisfied when he didn't get a response and accepted that as consent. He stopped away angrily.Kyagie made sure Sheri had dry clothes before leaving to do his daily chores. His sister always stayed in the barm and waited faithfully for him to return. They lived on a two acre farm,so Kyagie had to ride to town every day on his horse. His horse was a white and brown paint named Brownie.Kyagie had a more unique talent as he could ride his horse bare back.Despite all that he was forced to endure he could still appreciate the beauty of mother nature. His favorite season was cherry blossom season. His eyes always sparkled while he watched the blossoms fall from the trees.
After some time he arrived at the town of Hokkaido. He hopped off his horse and wasn't worried about Brownie abandoning him.His horse was whistle trained to come to him when summoned. He spent all day and evening pick pocketing people and sneaking in to homes. He would only still small valuables as they were easy to hide and transport. It was starting to get dark and he felt his heart beating nervously. He was consumed with a very unsettling feeling. He couldn't explain it."Sheri...Please,oh please..Tell me you're alright."He whistled for Brownie and clumbed on top of his back.He wasted no time as he rode the poor horse fast and hard all the way back home.As sooon as he made it near the barn he jumped off before the horse even came to a stop.He ran in the barn and let out a sigh of relief. His sister was just fine.He didn't know why he overreacted. All he knew is he'd be lost without his little sister. She was the only reason he had to live.
