Chapter 1: Back to town

“Hah…” An exasperated sigh escaped from the only female in the group for the umpteenth time.

“…”

“…”

“…”

“…”

The four boys meekly followed behind her at a slightly larger distance than usual.

After that, they got chased around by Lily for a while. The caught ones (Elvis and Raphael) were forced to listen to her hysterical words that had no real meanings while their clothes were being pulled back and forth.

Finally, after a long struggle, Rey and Guts were enabled to calm her down from a safe distance and rescued the two victims. And so, they all began traveling back to Onyx with an awkward atmosphere.

The four felt really apologetic to Lily.

Just because of the slip of their tongues when hearing the question of which word best described their leader, Lily was stuck with a class whose name could not be anything but lame.

If they were in her shoes, they would be very upset and angry too.

And so, the five continued walking towards Onyx, their main base of operation, in this way with a dispirited Lily in front who was letting out a periodical sigh.

“Hey, Lily- W-Whoa, what happened? Why are you in such a low spirit?” Miss Amita, the adventurer guild’s receptionist, a close friend of Lily, asked upon seeing the zombified Lily walking towards her.

“…Oh… Amita… It is nothing much… May I ask to report in a private room?” The spiritless Lily slumped her shoulders as she absentmindedly replied.

“A-A private room?!” Amita shouted, surprised.

To explain: the guild had two private rooms in each of their branches. However, it was rarely used.

It was the idea of the wise guild’s leader of the past that, should the adventurers associated with them wanted to report confidential matters or keep the contents of their report a secret, the existence of such rooms would be convenient.

After that, it became a rule of the guild that each building of the guild must have two private rooms for such purposes.

That said, it was rarely used. The adventurers would be penalized if the contents of their report were deemed as not significant enough for the utilization of such a room.

Therefore, Amita was surprised that Lily requested the use of a private room during one of her obligatory reports to the guild that should be done each time a party was back to town.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

The adventurers around them also reacted to Amita’s shout. An uproar began to be stirred.

It could not be helped if they were curious as it was not daily that a party requested the use of a private room. Especially, since the one who requested it was ‘Lily and co’, one of the top adventurer parties in town.

…This was a bit outside of the topic, but the party’s name was more well-known than normal, partially because people thought the name was lame. And so, rumors were going around easier.

Well, it could be said that there was not only one conventional way of advertising themselves as an adventurer party to their prospective employers…

When seeing the reactions created by her shout, Amita quickly covered her mouth with her hand. But it was already too late.

After a brief moment, she recovered and furtively whispered into Lily’s ear, “Oi, Lily, what happened exactly?!”

“…Let’s talk in a private room… It is too embarrassing,” Lily, with her dead eyes, quietly replied.

“O-Oh, I got it!” Saying so, Amita guided Lily and her party to a private room.

“Hahahahaha… What the heck was that?! Ah, m-my side!” Amita laughed loudly with her hands holding her stomach in the private room after hearing the entire story.

“H-Hey, it is no laughing matter, you know! Stop laughing!” Lily said. Her face was as red as a tomato.

“Ah, sorry, sorry,” Amita apologized, wiping away tears in the corner of her eye.

To be perfectly honest, embarrassing story aside, the story was important. It was the birth of another unique class holder. Lily’s influence would be several times higher If the fact were known.

“I assume you want to keep it a secret from the public, right?” Amita asked.

It was imperative that such important change was reported to the guild. But there was no reason it could not be kept to only the guild’s important personnel and important people outside of the guild.

Normally, if such a glorious matter such as obtaining a unique class were to happen, the person would want to brag about it, but…

“You were embarrassed with the name, right?”

…That could not be the case with how lame the name of the unique class Lily received was.

Imagine if people said, “Oh, that is the holder of a unique class, Saint Mom Lily!”

Lily could very well imagine herself digging the ground as deep as possible and forever hiding there, not minding never see the sunlight again.

With tears of humiliation in her eyes, Lily nodded. Her face was quite pitiful.

Putting her right fist next to her mouth in a thinking posture, Amita contemplated the matter. After a while, she said, “Hmm… While I agree that is the best for you, but I do not think such an important matter can really be kept a secret even if we try. It is just too big. So, you should prepare yourself, Lily.”

“T-That is… I know,” At first, Lily was trying to deny it, but eventually gave up and accepted Amita’s point with slumped shoulders. The sight of a girl in an inner struggle was a bit cute and may awaken the sadistic streak inside of people.

The four guys who still remained quiet behind their party leader each had an ugly expression on their face when they heard Amita’s judgment-like fact words.

After all, it was their fault.

“B-But I need time to come to terms with it.”

“Okay, but you should know that the time is not much, eh?” Amita leaned forward with her hands put together in front in a confident gesture.

“I know…” Lily said weakly.

After Scanning around the four boys, the cause of this situation, with disapproving eyes, Amita said, “You guys should reflect a bit on how much trouble you have caused Lily. But if there is nothing else, you all can leave as you have finished the report.”

Getting shooed away, the five left. All with a crestfallen expression on their faces.

“Hah…” Lily sighed again after they went out of the guild.

“O-Oi, Lily…” Guts tried to clear the awkward air around them, but the words got stuck in his throat when Lily looked back at him with her dead eyes.

“How about we visit the orphanage to relax?” Rey suddenly suggested after seeing Guts’ failed attempt in his usual emotionless voice.

“Ah, the orphanage! I missed seeing Cecil, Lex, and the others there! Let’s go!” Lily exclaimed in a much better mood and started walking towards the orphanage.

The four gave each other a knowing look and followed behind Lily. Their expressions became slightly better.

Nothing cheered her up better than going to the orphanage and seeing the children there. They all knew it.
