Imperial Confusion

Imperial Confusion

The Custodian Guard Captain received the firmly written email. The Captain read the email. The Captain read all of the attached documentation and watched all of the attached videos. The Captain presented an attached video to his fellow Custodian Guard. There was thunderous laughter and the email was forwarded to the High Lords of Terra for review and co-discussion. A reply email was sent and the synopsis of the contents of the email was presented to the Emperor.

Captain Carlos and Trader Karfafeneu were going through all of the major setbacks from the unexpected interruption. It was going to take somewhere between six months and two years to get everything unstuck, cleared, repaired, recalibrated, and back on task. Karfafeneu was unhappy, but had a feeling that shutting down advanced machinery in the middle of a task would be costly and time consuming.

He asked Carlos if it was possible to deliver his cargo while they waited. Carlos was momentarily distracted by a return email, but replied affirmatively. Then Karfafeneu asked if it the Astropathic sanctum had been disturbed. It hadn't because it was occupied and Carlos had just began the strip and refit when he was so rudely disembodied and told as much.

Rogue Trader Karfafeneu asked to be allowed to restock the sanctum and send a message through the astropath. He received a positive response. "Rogue Trader Karfafeneu for delivery to Krenkov Seven, order is in bound. Change ship, ship bound ship bound within XBCS799465 VWB Gregory Two of the Terran Federation and Captained by Carlos Montgomery Kreig. Cargo onboard ship, onboard ship. Do not fire. Ship is massive and repairing my ship."

The message was received, but caused panic among some while instilling resolve in others. The hive world would never be the same. The Lords and Planetary Governor were expecting those supplies to be delivered within the next month and Karfafeneu never let them down. They could easily overlook everything outside of the fact that he delivers.

The tech priests were in a tizzy. They couldn't overcome that the ship designation was from the Dark Age of Technology. They could not resolve to wanting one thing. Some wanted to examine the vessel, some wanted to take it, some to destroy it, some merely wanted to give it a good once over with the old mark twelve optical unit that replaced their mark one eyeballs. It was resolved to kick it up the ladder, and a lot of ladder kicking ensued. The problem was the at the discretion of the Ordos Juris.

Rogue Trader Karfafeneu got his reply and a few words of caution. He went back to the suite that he was assigned. It wasn't the Captain's quarters, but it was snazzy. Anything he could ever want from ancient Terra was at his beck and call. He'd never had chicken or beef before, but he surely wasn't about to let that succulent, decadent, delightful meat escape his meals for as long as it was available.

Carlos could have popped them right then and there to exactly where Karfafeneu wanted to go, but he had to mill the clock a bit. He knew that Rogue Trader Karfafeneu wouldn't settle for a Warp Drive if a ZIP or FLDR was available, but those weren't officially invented yet. He had to make it believable and still had a few hundred thousand tons of work to resolve.

He had a month, but called it twenty standard Terran days to help convince people to upgrade to the better Warp Drive. This was assuming that people will believe that it was just a really good Warp Drive that he used instead of the BLIP and realtime hollow effects. It was a low risk maneuver, the enhanced and upgraded Warp Drives were actually faster than what his performance would portray. He was even going to fake an entire Warp voyage to fool Karfafeneu and his crew.

The reply email was concerning. It had a warning about mistreatment of Imperial citizens and a request to be contacted again within a few months and to be informed about the effectiveness of the "reform". Carlos thought it was a jest from the current governance, which was well known for not giving two seconds of consideration for the betterment of it's citizens.

Carlos was doing his fake Warp thing and trying to figure out how to get his equipment back up and running sooner. Then he sent a new email proposing an alternate punishment for the former Custodian and the underlings of the Junior Inquisitor, but not the belligerent herself. He also offered to bump up the pay, lodgings, and offerings for anyone willing to help and follow his rules to the T, on a temporary work contract of course.

The reply came quickly enough. Rogue Trader Karfafeneu had no objections, his guys making more credits and having access to buy better things was a firm bonus to the delays being shortened. The reply email had a sarcastic tone, as if being written from the words of some posh noble that had never seen what a fusion lance or phosphexant nanite swarm does.

The reply came from someone claiming to be the "High Lord Treasurer" of the however the hells you're supposed to say "Syphexhoriadsgongurngrshles" House. The first few times trying to sound it out resulted in something spawning and being given the full exhibition of the Core Containment Vault's lethal defense measures. He quickly shoved every single warpy atom into an artificial black hole and teleported it to the Warp.

Then he sent an email to the Captain of the Custodian Guard about the issue of an intentionally weaponized name, possibly a pseudonym. They had another laugh at his expense, but told the Inquisitorial Representative who immediately started inquisiting and inquiring. Then murdering the cultists who had managed to infest Holy Terra and even managed to get an agent among the High Lords. The other High Lords didn't even bat an eye at the execution at the High Lords Council Table.

The Regent had words for the Lord Inquisitor. "Lord Inquisitor, I understand that you have reason to execute the High Lord Treasurer. What is the reason?" The tone alone could destroy the resolve of any lesser man.

The Inquisitorial Representative apologized for the interruption before going on to the explanation. "I received word from the Custodian Guard Captain that the very name of the now dead High Lord Treasurer's house was warp tainted. I investigated and found that the supposed noble house was actually a cult of the Ruines Powers, specifically Tzeench. They have been purged, Regent Guilliman. Saying that name aloud could summon Warp entities."
