Chapter 1: Cell
" You green piece of shit - wake up! " The harsh voice of a man echoed through my room, pulling me from the depths of slumber.
" Dad, give me another 5 minutes of sleep " I mumbled sleepily, barely comprehending the words.
Wait, wait, no one should be home right now. I rubbed my eyes, trying to clear the haze of sleep, and turned toward the source of the voice.
My vision slowly focused on a figure standing menacingly in the doorway - a huge, muscular man with a shaved head and a stern, threatening expression.
"Who are you? What are you doing in my house? Take one step closer, and I'll call the police!" I shouted, my voice quivering with fear.
Despite my bold words, the sound that emerged from my mouth was foreign, more like the growl of some monstrous creature from a video game than my own voice.
After a moment, the realization hit me like a cold wave. I wasn’t in my room. I was surrounded by thick, cold stone walls that seemed to absorb every sound.
This is definitely not my room. I thought, panic starting to set in.
The man began to walk toward me, his heavy footsteps reverberating through the stone chamber.
In a split second, thousands of thoughts flooded my mind:
Where the hell am I? Have I been kidnapped? What’s going to happen to me? Or maybe this is just a dream? ... yes, it must be a dream. I’ll wake up soon, and surely I’ll be in my room.
But something felt terribly off; everything was horrifyingly real.
As he approached, I felt his massive hand clamp around my neck. It was only then, as he loomed over me, that I realized he was twice my size.
" Listen, you bastard, if you don’t do your job, I'll throw you to the dogs " he snarled, his anger barely contained.
His grip tightened, and before I could react, he hurled me across the room like a ragdoll, tossing me toward the exit with casual brutality.
Suddenly, a message materialized before my eyes:
[ New Task ]
Task summary: Good luck!
Mission objective: Go to work.
Reward: 1x piece of bread.
In case of failure: Death.
This must be fucking joke. A mission like in some game? Failing equals death? What is this, some kind of fucked-up novel? Good luck? Kiss my ass!!!
Alright, I need to calm down. I don't know what's happening, but I'm convinced this isn't a dream. Everything is too realistic.
The last thing I remember is a conversation with my father. He was telling me he had to leave for a week for work.
The atmosphere between us was quite tense because I dropped out of college in my final year—a decision he didn't approve of.
He didn't understand the hell I was going through that made it impossible for me to function normally.
After that, I was lying in bed, dreaming about what my life would be like if it weren't for all of this. Then I woke up and found myself here.
After a moment of consideration, I left the room as that lunatic had ordered and walked in the only direction available.
To my surprise, there were many more cells like mine, and what's more, they didn’t hold people—they held monsters.
Orcs, goblins, kobolds, every conceivable creature you could think of. Of course, I recognized them all as a huge fan of tabletop RPGs.
I often met with friends to play, spending countless hours in D&D and similar games.
If they keep monsters here, and I am likely in a fantasy world or some alternate reality
— at least that’s the conclusion I came to after analyzing the situation —
then why did they lock me up too?
I glanced to my left, looking at a disgusting goblin who was my height.
Aren’t goblins supposed to be short, low-level, weak creatures in games?
"Wait a minute, since when am I this short?" I said quietly under my breath.
Once again, the same message appeared before my face:
[ New Discovery ]
