“As you can see, we’re not exactly human either. The hunt is more like a second nature to people like us.” Lucian growled.
Fang was calm now. He was just startled because he didn’t expect to meet another werewolf in a guild dedicated to hunting monsters. His intuition skill didn’t even warn him, so he knew there wasn’t any danger.
“So, are all the hunters under you werewolves?”
“Mostly, but you will find some vampires too. As you can see, we keep good company here. The important question now is what to do with you.”
Slightly tensing his muscles in preparation, Fang replied, “What do you mean?”
“What I mean is, there is a difference between you and us. We’re human who can take another form. You’re a demon who can take the form of a human.”
Thinking back to when he created his character, the description did say Demon Wolf and not Werewolf. He sighed.
Lucian continued after drinking a sip of water, “I suppose Elios sent you here to train. You’re not learning anything new if I say that we usually act on the evil side of things, so there’s a little test of mine you have to pass.”
“What kind of test?”
Not answering, Lucian began humming. The light in the room faded again, forming a sphere of light between them while draining all the light in the room. Soon, they were plunged into total darkness. The only source of light was the sphere.
“Touch it. Don’t worry, it won’t bite.”
But before Lucian said anything, Fang already wanted to do just that. Something in him seemed to resonate with the sphere. He reached out into the darkness, his left hand touching the sphere. Suddenly, it flowed and took ahold of him. A cloud of darkness wrapped itself around Fang’s forearm and began burning into his skin. In just an instant, he blacked out from the pain.
He woke up seeing Lucian hovering over him.
“Glad to see you not die. Eat something. It’ll make you feel better.”
Fang sat up and checked his left arm. A tattoo appeared that hadn’t been there before. Lines of chains swirling and wiggling around like it was suppressing something within.
“The sphere leaves a mark on only those who are able to inherit the legacy of Draken, one of our two founders.”
“Two founders?”
“Yes. Their great names are Draken and Morlock. They were best friends born in Norley Village, each a prodigy at something. Draken excelled in all thing's weaponry while Morlock’s talents were in magic. They roamed the world, sharing adventure after adventure together. As in any tales, things always go wrong sooner or later. Nobody knows how, but Draken became a vampire. Rumors say he grew conceited and challenged the Vampire King Valentine who turned him into one of his kin as a lesson. To curve his new thirst, Morlock developed the Dark Sphere, creating the first skill of the Dark Slayer class. It’s said that after obtaining that class, all of his fights were won in a single strike.”

Do you accept this class?
A ten-fold increase? Of course I want it!
Suppressing his excitement, he calmly said in a controlled voice, “I do.”
ERROR: Class prohibited to Demons
Not being allowed to accept a class so perfect for his purposes drove him insane. Fang bursted out in anger, instantly losing control of his emotions. Transforming back into a wolf, he threw a punch at the wall which resulted in a large boom.
Hearing the noise, several hunters burst into the room. Without assessing the situation, two hunters attacked Fang.
The two hunters were named Cross and Rolan. They’re cousins in real life and joined the Hunter Guild together. Cross used a bow to support Rolan who fought with daggers. They were in the guild hall when they heard a loud boom and a beastly howl. Following the other hunters, they burst into Lucian’s room. Since they didn’t feel the howl affecting them, they knew they were higher level than the wolf, attacking Fang with their best skills.
Fang noticed the assailants almost too late. He only had a split second to react while not in the right state of mind to restrain himself. Rolan threw daggers at him, aiming for his heart. Fang sidestepped to the right only to see that it was a trap. Three arrows were fired straight at his head.
Rolan smirked when he saw the beast take the bait. He knew the instant it tried to dodge, Cross would slaughter him. The man loved aiming for the head with three consecutive arrows. As expected, Rolan saw the arrows going in for the kill when the wolf sporadically disappeared.
He looked around the room for the wolf. His eyes found that Fang was now somehow behind Cross. Watching helplessly, he saw Fang bury his claws into Cross’s sides and lifted him up. Fang’s teeth ripped apart Cross’s neck and instantly killed him.
The move was so sudden that nobody could react when they saw their fellow hunter die.
-> Level up
-> Level up
-> Level up
After killing Cross, Fang leveled up three times, but he ignored it, waiting for Rolan to make his move when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking back, he saw Lucian who soundlessly approached them.
Seeing him, Fang questioned Rolan, “Why did you attack me when I wasn’t even trying to kill anyone?”
Rolan spat back, “You’re a monster, why wouldn’t we attack you?”
Seeing anger flare again in Fang’s eyes, Lucian stepped in.
“Enough, both of you. Rolan. Next time be sure to think a little. It helps avoid trouble like this. And you, Fang, next time, don’t kill anyone here.” Turning to face the rest of the hunters, Lucian ordered, “Leave us now, you can seek him out later if you want, but right now, he’s my guest.”
After everyone slowly trickled out the room, Lucian sighed, “It’s too bad you can’t join us, but seeing you fight, I realize that just being a hunter won’t be enough for you.”
“I didn’t exactly help my case when I killed someone here I guess.”
“Never mind that, there’s a little thing I have to mention to you. Like I said, the sphere helps us restrain ourselves a bit. For vampires, it means they don’t need any more blood. For a shapeshifter, it lets us reach an intermediate state.”
Fang was intrigued, “What do you mean?”
“I think it’s better if I showed you.”
With that, subtle changes appeared on Lucian. His ears became only a bit pointier than normal. The claws were slightly shorter than in wolf form, letting him form a fist. His teeth were still sharp, and two fangs appeared. He could pass for a human except for his yellow eyes.
“You just have to want to take this form. It’s easy.”
Fang tried, but it didn’t change much for him. His ears already had a pointed shape, only now, it was more noticeable. His eyes were already red, but he felt slight stronger, surprising him.
“How many times have you fought as a human?” Lucian asked.
“Never.”
“Did you compare your stats between your forms? If not, you should now.”
Fang, curious, quickly checked his stats. It was so evident that he felt like a fool for not noticing it himself. In full wolf form, his strength and agility increased by five-fold compared to his human form. In partial wolf form, it was a three-fold increase. Seeing that, he grinned.
Lucian saw the grin and spoke, “The only thing I have left to show you is in that close behind you. Open it if you want.”
Fang walked over to the closet and pulled open the door. A mask with no eye holes sat on top of black neatly folded clothes.
“Both these items are special. The clothes can stretch to suit you even when you change. You can see through the mask which helps if you don’t want people to notice your eyes.”
Fang felt grateful towards Lucian, “Thanks for the gifts. By the way, do you have any backdoors out of this room?”
“Why a backdoor?”
“I don’t exactly like the odds of going through a hall full of hunters.”
He chuckled, “For a demon, you get afraid easily. I’ll escort you.”
