Prologue

“Good afternoon, class.”

A student heard his old teacher said while he stared sluggishly outside the room’s windows. The class moved on to their lesson not long after.

Another boring day, same as yesterday. He thought.

“Everybody, get out now!”

He was woken out of his daydream as some other student shouted from the corridor outside their room. It took him a while to understand what was going on as the deafening sound from the fire alarm finally registered to him. But that was less of a concern when compared to the tremors he felt a while ago. Dust and debris from the ceiling continued to fall as his classmates tries to recover from the shock caused by the large explosion they have heard and felt.

“Out the room now, guys!”

His teacher said evacuating us out of the building despite the fear evident in his face.

The class was quickly going down the staircase when one of his nearby classmates keeled over the floor. The people surrounding her was panicking as they looked at her frothing in the mouth and twitching unnaturally.

“What is happening he- “

Another teacher immediately passed through the wall of students surrounding the girl who fainted but stopped at his tracks as soon as he came. The nearby students simultaneously looked at the teacher wondering why he stopped, only for screams from all around to erupt as some sort of limb comparable to a tentacle was stabbing him, a puddle of red liquid forming just below his feet.

The kid reasonably followed what his fellow students did and ran as fast as he can away from the scene, others continued to go down the stairs and some returned upwards, but not before seeing the then-keeled over female student stood up and retrieved her tentacle limb from the corpse of the stabbed teacher.

“What the hell are you all doing and just staring at it?! Pick up your guns and shoot at it for Christ’s sake!”

A tall man in a suit shouted at his subordinates trying to gain a semblance of control back as he looked at whatever the thing in front of him and his guys was. The thing stood taller than three people stacked together but that was not its most unusual feature. He tried not to freeze in front of it and start to shoot at it as it seemingly stared at him using its head that composed a third of its height.

He felt a moment passed and it disappeared.

“What happened?”

“Where did it go?”

“What was that to begin with?”

He heard more than a dozen questions passed around his people as they tried to make sense of what they saw. They stopped talking when they heard some of sort crunching sound along with a muffled scream coming from behind their group.

Screams started to be heard as they all saw the monster standing nonchalantly with the body of one of their syndicate executives hanging lifelessly from its giant mouth. He continued to shout at his people to shoot at it. But despite all the bullets the monster was taking, he felt it was showing a satisfied smile after it slurped the corpse.

What is even happening? We’re just partying after a successful attack on a rival gang.

He asked himself before blinking only to find the monster gone once more and a shadow suddenly coming from behind him. Large amounts of sweat started to come out of his whole body as his senses started to warn him that whatever liquid it was dripping on his head, it was not just rain.
