Chapter 18 – vs Full Moon Dryad (2)

~~ 3rd Person Point of View ~~

After Cecil disappeared the whole corp entered formation. As the formation was complete and the blessings were cast we could hear the sound of the battle from the top of the waterfall.

As that sound was the starting signal, the moon plant monsters started moving towards them.

“Mages, you have my permission. You don’t need to economize anything, use your maximum power!”

As Windser roar sounded, the mages started chanting, seconds later, from the tip of the mage staffs a red circle surged. As if becoming a volcano in eruption, flames flew in all the sides of formation, but in the direction towards the mountains of the waterfall.

Following the upstream, Windser rushed in, acting as vanguard, while the elite patterned warriors followed his stride.

His silver sword shined golden, like Lucca, but the color was much purer and brighter.

Captain advanced his sword clashed against the moon plant monsters, although he couldn’t use fire, the natural enemy of the plants. He was using holy element into his sword, the natural enemy of dark mana that imbued those mutations.

With each swing of his sword, the monsters grunted as it leaved burn marks in their corrupted bodies.

Windser attracted the hostility of the majority of the monsters, leaving the other elite soldier with easy battles as they could outnumber the enemies.

The mages can’t keep going for much longer, thought Windser as he saw that the firepower from the flames was decreasing.

Hitting his shield with the sword he produced loud sounds which resonated through the night.

“Come get me you damned monster!”

The moon plant monsters were much stronger than their normal counterparts and lived through the influence of the mysterious human, therefore they acquired some intelligence. They were aware that the biggest threat wasn’t the mages, who kept their companions at bay to avoid the flames, but this reckless man who led the charge.

Judging they had to take him down to break their spirits, all the monsters of the surroundings of the captain aimed for him.

The eyes of Windser flashed as he saw the vines coming from everywhere.

“[Guard]!”

His shield shined brightly as it formed a wall of light protecting his head and vitals, but he was mercilessly assaulted everywhere, making him puke blood.

As the monster vines where retreating a smile flashed in his bloody face and he started chanting fast.

“بالنسبة لأولئك الذين يقمعون الضعفاء، وأنا هنا لتحقيق الحكم لذنوبك [Holy Chains]”

From his other hand, countless chains emerged and tied all those monsters that attacked him in that instant, those golden chains were pulled by the sheer strength of Windser who bought all of them together while slowly burning their bodies.

“Suna do it!”

Suna was the strongest mage of this corp, she was the only one who didn’t attack before, preserving her strength, as Windser commanded.

Yet she couldn’t obey his captain order.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

“We don’t have any other option, do it!”

Seeing the resolute eye of Windser, she couldn’t just disobey and started chanting, from the tip of her staff a red circle surged that Lucca already saw before.

“[Fire Pillar]”

The fire magic flew towards Windser, which had his shield up to intercept the attack.

When the fire ball touched his shield, it expanded forming a pillar of fire that burned everything in a way similar to what Cecil did before.

That was Suna’s strongest magic, she was clearly tired after the attack, despite this attack being a scale weaker than the one Cecil used, which made Lucca once more wonder how much strength she had.

Nevertheless, it was such a great pillar of flames that covered the whole area, that wouldn’t be strange to see everything dying away by the terrorist flames.

Yet, after a few seconds, Windser emerged from the flames, the bleeding from before was covered in black marks all over his body with smoke surging from his body.

“Move on!”

Despite the raging flames burning his flesh, he endured.

“Follow the captain!”

Voices like that surged everywhere in the corps and the whole formation rushed towards their leader.

After a few minutes they reached the mountain walls and the captain voice once more roared.

“Keep your back to the mountain wall. With the river at our side we won’t be encircled. STAND YOUR GROUND!”

Despite his tattered appearance, his magnificent aura infected his subordinates. He received some heal from the soldiers and once more moved on to the vanguard. The soldier seeing their brave captain, quickly obeyed his words, and entered formation with their morale soaring.

“Don’t spare any resource mages, use everything!”

Windser told them while seeing the monsters coming. The mages took some blue potions and drunk them with bitter faces.

Those were potions that could quickly replenish their mana, although they tasted badly, they had great effect and were expensive.

“Men, hold their attacks until the mage regenerate their mana!”

The monster finally closed to them.

The floras maintained their distance attacking with their vine whips, churning the soldier gradually while being safe. The huge carnivorous plants, although not as tall as the ones from before, came close to try to bite them, since each would be at least two times greater than a normal human.

Within few minutes since the battle started, there were already dozens of soldiers fallen (eaten) by those plants.

Since they didn’t had the support from the mages, they could only dodge or block, as those type of monster were the natural enemy of close combat warriors.

Windser being the exception, as he already killed numerous of those. His golden sword causes great damage to the moon plant monsters and each stroke could chop a whip off from the floras or cut the whole stem of the huge carnivorous plants.

Yet he couldn’t defend all the sides by himself and his troops numbers were decreasing with time.

“Patterned squad take the vanguard! Other squads keep support from behind!”

Although the patterned squad were elites, they were tired from the assault earlier and each of those were several times stronger than the normal soldiers, so losing them would be a huge loss.

Windser couldn’t just watch all his man being slaughtered.
