After I had sat there next to my throw up surrounded by blood and guts I finally got my shit together. I stood up, looked at the ceiling, and took a deep breath. Letting it out I turned around and headed to the door. I weaved through the desks quickly, wanting this whole experience to be behind me. I'm hoping I don’t see anything like this again. Or at least not anytime soon. Once outside I turn around and look at the name on the side of the door.
Bernard Wilson
Mr.Wilson, I’m assuming he went by. I looked back at the back corner of the classroom his body was in a place that couldn’t be seen unless you looked closely. I can’t help but say a quick prayer to whatever or whoever is listening. Then I head out, I do a quick look in the hallway to make sure no creature has wandered down the hallway. I had cleared it before and wasn’t being too cautious. Somewhere in me, I was wrestling with the paranoia that things were about to go terribly wrong. But I mean the world as we know it has ended.
Deadass
And I don’t think that a little paranoia at the end of the world is a bad thing. I’ve seen some assholes in regular everyday society, imagine what would happen if they were unleashed onto the world with no fear of prison. At that thought I peek out the side of the hallway to find there are about five or six creatures that are wandering the hall. I quickly grab my knife. Trying to figure out a way to wheedle them down slowly.
“OWW” I immediately cover my mouth and look down at my leg. Only to see a guinea pig standing on my boot and wiping the little bit of blood on its mouth off. Of course, while I’m worried about asshole humans. I’m getting attacked by this fucking asshole guinea pig. I want to kick it halfway across the room, but...
“Ahhgggg!!!” I can hear them rushing down the hallway, following the sound. I immediately start running to the stairs. My breathing is already heavy and a cold sweat breaks out all over my skin. Bursting through the doors of the stairway I quickly head down the stairs to try and lose them at the door to the 3rd floor. Though that idea was fuzzy. I just knew I had to lose them. But when I got to the third-floor door I couldn’t open it. In a panic, I bang on the door loudly. Trying desperately to get in. I only have time to pull on the doors once before I hear creatures coming from both the top and bottom floors.
The only thing I can think to do is get to the corner and pray. I’m praying to Allah, God, Zeus, Anyanwu. Anyone who will listen. I’m feeling my vision go blurry and start to panic. Only to feel a few drops of water come down my face. The creatures are only ten steps away from me right now. Apparently, they’re not good with corners. It gives me just enough time to wipe my eyes and try to steady my shaking hand that's holding the knife. I can’t help but feel my heart start to beat out of my chest when I also finally see about 8 coming from the floors below.
The first one is about 3 feet away from me, I then kick with a little bit more force than I probably should have to kick that one down the stairs. I skid forward to stop from following that creature down the stairs. It worked great for me because they ended up crashing into the wall. They are making low moaning sounds, but are slowly starting to get back up to lunge at me. Before they can all fully get up I take one large step up to the mess of a pile they made. I bring my knife up and swing down hard two times. Killing two of them immediately causing green blood to splatter onto my hands.

I quickly go to kick the rest of the creatures still on the ground to keep them there. If I could quickly kill this group of creatures then I would be able to get rid of that other group. As I am getting rid of the remaining few of them I hear a Ding happening in the background. I stop to look around only to see the door opening. I’m excited at first, then I see who it is. The excitement is still there. Seeing another human being again, but the fact that it’s her does dim it a little.
She smiles at me only for a look of horror to appear not even a second layer. Before I can even look behind me she is running at me while holding a very sharp-looking axe. I quickly move out of the way, my back hitting the wall as I fall back and land right next to the piles of dead creatures. Only for a downward slash of her axe to cause green blood to make a messy line down my shirt. I look back down the stairs and scramble up quickly to help her out with the group of creatures that have finally made their way back up the stairs. We make quick work of them, the high ground making it easier for us.
Once we were done, I had to catch my breath and make sure my heart wasn’t going to beat out of my chest. After a few minutes, I looked at her and then passed her when I saw a teacher looking through the now-closed door. Which I could have sworn was open. The confusion had to have been written all over my face, because not a second later I heard her say.
“It was, but I told them to close and block the door after I rushed in to save you”
I look at her and nod in understanding. She gives me a nod back with the slightest of smiles. Then she starts walking towards the door, looking back she gestures for me to follow her. I do so without much anxiety. Once we get to the door the teacher takes a minute actually to open the door for us. I don’t know if it's from fear of what could be on the side we’re on or if they just have that much stuff blocking the door. Either way, I patiently wait for the door to open taking the time to look her over. I can see that most of her clothes are covered in the green blood from the creatures. This makes me a little worried about what’s happening in the rest of the school.
I don’t know if I was just hoping or trying not to think that the rest of the school was infected with those things. That maybe it was just a freak break in our dimension or something. But nope those fuckers came from the second floor. They’re probably crawling the first floor. That’s where everyone usually is before school starts. How are we supposed to get out of here? I need to get back to Talia. The second I go to turn around I notice that I’m no longer in the stairwell, but in a classroom with about 20 to 30 teenagers and a couple of teachers.
“You look like you're about to go off. I dragged you in here when you weren’t following me into the third floor. You must get trapped in your head a lot.” she says as she giggles and then leads me to where the teachers are. They were looking at me with concern. Once I was close enough, one of the teachers reached out and put a hand on my shoulder. Squeezing it and letting go. One of the two women nodded to me and the other women there pulled me into a hug. I was so out of it by all of it that I just stood there not hugging her back.
“It must have been so hard on you. I can’t even imagine going through all this alone. How are you doing? Do you need anything?” she said as she pulled out of the hug, but kept her hands on my arms. I feel a shiver go up my spine and my mouth goes into a tight grimace. The teacher assumes that my symptoms are from my encounter out in the stairwell. Jameson notices, gentilly she removes the teacher's hands from my arms and nods at me.
I give her the barest of smiles and take a deep breath. Centering myself at the moment and getting ready to face whatever it was that they brought me over here for.
“Hey so, I know this is a rough situation but we need to know. Which floor did you come from?” The touchy woman was about to add on, but the one who spoke, the more stoic man stopped her.
“I came from the fourth floor,” I say with a bit of my vision getting blurry.
“Yeah, that makes sense you would have been swarmed if you came from the first floor. Probably, would not even have made it here.” some student says snarkily. Or was it a student? Why is everything getting so blurry?
“Oh shut up. You don’t even have a class yet. What do you know about what it’s like out there?” Jameson asks the snarky student who has a zebra for a head. That’s weird I don’t remember people having zebra heads.
“Heeyyy, you.. Don’t lllloooookk soooo hot..” I hear them all say at the same time. Like everyone. How weird. I think it’s time for me to gooooo night niighht.
