Chapter 10: Mechanical Soldier

Chapter 10: Mechanical Soldier

Ravok looked at his hands with a confused expression. "It can't be that simple, can it?" He asked out loud, yet her suggestion made sense. The red and blue energy flowed through different hands. The energy occasionally switched but more often than not, the red energy appeared in his left while the blue formed in his right.

"Try it for f*ck sake. It hasn't been working before. It can't hurt to try," Red yells through his head. Ravok immediately grabbed his head as the stinging pain coursed through his mind. As Red quickly followed, it was apparent enough for both Red and Blue to notice. "Sorry..sorry"

He couldn't help but sigh in frustration. He held his hands to the right and left and visualized the two weapons Red and Blue used. Two large axes were wielded with two hands that could crush a skull with a single blow. The energy started to gather around his palm, connecting itself with the power that naturally existed in the world as it slowly formed more and more. There was no explosion, no breaking as the two weapons finally developed in his hand, leaving floating wisps of red and blue throughout the entire room. As Ravok opened his eyes, he noticed the two large weapons in his hands. One felt fierce with a hunger for battle, a desire for nothing but the clash of blades. While the other felt empty, like any other standard weapon as the tool that it was.

"F*ck yes!" Red yelled out from inside, seeing her weapon in its full glory. "Try swinging it!" It was like she was a little girl playing with her toys. Ravok could feel the same excitement bubble up within him. He held out the weapon that felt trembling in its hand. As he moved it left, and right the wisps of red color followed the weapon. At the same time, he noticed that the weapon felt light like a feather. Despite its large stature and metal-looking blade, it moved through the air without any weight, which felt strange to him as when the weapon connected to his arm, it certainly felt like there was weight behind it.

With each move, Ravok could feel the air splitting around the weapon. He could sense the energy around the weapon and the power that kept the blade together. The weapons containing condensed energy lit up the room with their color, and he could feel the almost boiling heat from the red ax. The blue ax was utterly different. It lit up the space in cold blue light, and inside, Ravok could only feel the stillness of an undisturbed puddle of water, yet at the same time, it felt like nothing could disturb this puddle. Nothing would penetrate the perfect mirror, it felt.

"Come on! Start swinging!" Ravok could hear in his mind. The excitement finally reached its peak, unable to contain it with the scene's serenity. He slowly opened the window, looking down to the street that was only one floor below, then looked up at the roof of the next building. In a single leap, he crossed the street and reached higher than the peak of the roofs all around him. A smile formed on his face as he felt the air soaring past his face.

Inside Ravok, Blue was looking at Red, who was moving and jumping along with Ravoks movements while she was sitting on the ground, simply observing how Red moved and jumped. The axes in their hands had long disappeared. In her mind, the worries and threats were still racing. They had to train, but doing so would only make them appear on the radar of the individuals that chased them around in this world. She didn't feel like mentioning anything now that both Red and Ravok finally started to get along, yet she couldn't help the feeling of being watched.

As Ravok landed on the flat roof of the building across the street, he looked around, over his street, some parts of the city, and against the skyline of tall skyscrapers in the distance. Something felt different, he had seen his city numerous times, but this time the colors felt so much more intense, the bright yellows of the lights lighting the streets, the deep dark blue of the sky above, and the shining white of the moon in the sky. All of them swirling together to paint a beautiful picture not all too different from the colors in his soul.

He held the red ax backward, ready to throw a swing. The large weapon felt slightly awkward to hold in one hand due to its size, yet he could swing the weapon like this with no problem due to the lack of weight. He turned the weapon forward with all his strength, pushing against the air surrounding him as the blade cut ahead. The swing felt powerful and directed, pressing and cutting through the energy that flowed through the sky.

Yet the swing itself was untrained. Nowhere in his memory could he find either Red or Blue learning how to swing a two-handed weapon with one hand, especially none that showed him how to dual wield these two weapons simultaneously. He moved his body in a way that one would with two weapons, trying out one of the many stances he remembers Blue taking, trying out each one for the next half hour, jumping around, swinging the weapons around. But each time, he realized the difficulty of having these two large, clunky weapons in his hand.

As Ravok was jumping around, Red couldn't contain her excitement, making the ax appear in her hand as she started to imitate what she could see, clumsily swinging the weapon around in one hand. Even if it was like this, she still got to fight, she knew that she wouldn't be satisfied like this for long, but it was at least something.

Ravok kept trying out new positions until the weapons felt comfortable in his hands, yet no way of fighting that he knew of used the weapons like this. He stopped for a moment, taking in the scenery around him once more, but as his eyes scoured the environment, they noticed a figure hovering in the air as Sonor did. Yet this figure was different. It was distinctly human, wearing some mechanical suit. Upon seeing this, Blue suddenly shouted out. "RUN!"

The yell echoed through his mind, his eyes widening, and as they did, the figure came at him at a rapid speed. Out of instinct, Ravok leaped backward into the sky, back towards his house. Only for him to realize that the moment he entered his house, this person would know where he lived, and as such, he landed directly on his roof. Before he could fully land, he noticed a blade reach for his face, the glowing cyan of its edge seemingly vibrating at an immense speed. His hand automatically slammed up, the large red ax head swinging at full force against the blade. The impact of his weapon knocked the person off balance as they flew upwards uncontrollably.

This moment gave Ravok a better look at the figure in front of him, which seemed to be a man in his thirties or so wearing some form of cybernetic armor. The blade that almost struck him was located on the man's wrist, just about his hand, acting like an extension of his arm. The suit looks like a set of futuristic knight armor, complete with jet-like things coming out of its back and feet. Yet some parts of the suit were not armored and exposed some of the user's actual body, elements like the head, and some other aspects like their hands and feet, all of which had no sign of armor whatsoever.

"Run!" Blue yelled at Ravok from within, his eyes glued on the figure trying to stabilize itself mid-air.

Red's voice bounced back, however. "No, we can finally fight back! There is only one!" She yelled after Blue finished her plea. The two of them looked at each other. They usually always agreed on these things. Red squinted, questioning Blue's call, yet Blue shook her head.

"If we fight, we should be ready to kill… I don't think he would kill another human being." Blue spoke in the same neutral tone she would use when making a point. Even more tone-deaf than her usual way of speaking.

Red looked frustrated, yet at the same time, it was clear that she was convinced of Blue's words. "Fine! Just f*cking run, Ravok," She yelled back as she lowered her stance from one excited to imitate another battle to one that was simply an observer.

During this time, Ravok was making small steps backward, keeping the man in his sight as he finally stabilized when both voices in his mind told him to run. In one swift turn, he moved backward and started running. Trails of red and blue lines of energy flowed behind him as he ran, and the veins in the area around his eyes began to glow with red and blue color. His legs moved faster than ever before, jumping between rooftops, moving through streets and around as many corners as he could find, making sure that he avoided any highly populated areas in case someone would spot him.

As Ravok ran Red and Blue, their eyes widened. They could hardly keep up with the movements flying across the two large screens representing Ravoks sight. He moved at a pace neither of them had seen before, a rate neither of them could keep up with by themselves. They exchanged a look before looking back at the screen, following his every move.

Finally, Ravok made his way through an alleyway. His pursuer was starting to lag by a large margin. It would not be long until he would lose him completely. There was a crossing in this alleyway. It would be a perfect opportunity for an ambush if one were set up. He prepared his axes, ready to block a blow from either side as he passed through, yet as he burst past, there was nothing, no attack by an unseen attacker, no blade ready to cut his throat. Finally, he exited the alleyway. He looked left and right as he panted. "I think we are good now…."

"I think we are…." Blue said, the wonder still slightly there in her voice as she tried to continue the sentence yet had no words left. She knew why Ravok displayed such a speed feat, yet it was hard for her to believe. Nowhere in her fragmented memories had she heard of such a feat this early in someone's training cycle.

"Holy sh*t…." Red said, clearly stating the amazement she felt. There was the same excitement in her voice as before. She sees a way to become more powerful through this soul link. Something in her changed. If they could do this for Ravok, maybe somewhere down the line, they could do something similar for herself or Blue.

Ravok nodded as he felt his body become heavy again, like a sack of bricks falling back on his shoulders, the color retreating from his eyes, face, and clothing. The adrenaline is still pumping through his body from the fight. His exhaustion was only interrupted by the grumbling of his stomach. He only realized that it had been thirty minutes since he started training. He was late for dinner… again.

Back in the alleyway, right around the corner that Ravok flew past, stood another person in a suit. The blade on her hand was trembling as she stood there. The man slowly lowered himself into the alleyway. "Corporal! What happened down here?!? I perfectly led him down this path, and I see no sign of battle!" His voice was loud, angry, and carried a hint of sympathy with it.

The voice that responded was still young. The blade returned to the suit as she hesitated for a couple of moments before speaking up. "Yes, sir! I... I just missed my mark!" Her hand steadied again, grabbing onto her other arm as confusion dotted her face.

"Don't worry… we were just scouting… we will get them next time in a proper mission," He said as he put a hand on her shoulder, nodding in understanding.
