Chapter Thirty-Seven
Ambrose appeared on the summit of a large mountain that overlooked the rest of Avalon. A large crystal was set into the ground with runes inlaid and extending into the stone around it.
The crystal was dull, flickering with dark gray light. The mighty wind blew around the summit in a fierce gale that would have blown Ambrose clear off the mountain without his D-Grade Strength. As it was, Noelle billowed around him like his own personal sail.
Ambrose used [Insight] on the crystal.
[Avalon Elemental Ward Crystal]: One of the four ward crystals of Avalon. This one protects the island from elements and powers the island’s elemental defenses. It’s weakening and will soon run out of mana.]
Ambrose’s brow furrowed. He should have known about the crystals, and yet he didn’t. Typically, the knowledge was just there when he considered anything about the island. He knew about this summit, the mountain as a whole, the lake of lava, the cavern with the yeti, and the graveyard and catacombs that ran beneath it. All of that he knew, and more besides.
The crystal? Nothing. He knew about the mana crystal mine that Reaver had taken him and the others to and, of course, the crystals deep beneath the depths of the island that held
Avalon’s prisoners captive, but that was it. It sounded important, which was why he should have known about it. He made a mental note to ask Vivienne about it as he scanned the area for threats. He could always back out with the key if needed, but he didn’t want to do that unless he had to.
What is that sound? Ambrose wondered. He couldn't see anything on the mountain's summit except the crystal and him. A tingle went down his spine as he flicked his one eye to the sky.
A dragon soared towards Ambrose. A large lizard like beast with wide wings and dark grey scales that almost blended it into the clouds it roared out of. It's eyes were an ugly purple, red light swirling within them.
It was as if someone had actually managed to bruise the eyes of the beast. It's snout was wide, and it opened its mouth to reveal a maw of razor-sharp teeth. Red and green motes of light lit up the back of its throat, coalescing, and building.
Ambrose wasted no time waiting for the creature to attack him with whatever that attack was. He activated [Infernal Aegis] , blanketing the area in fear and doubt before summoning his axe, and diving out of the way of the beam of pure destruction the dragon released at him.
Stone burst apart, chunks spewing through the air where Ambrose had been previously. He came out of his roll and ducked behind a large rock nearby.

Alice would think this is so cool if it wasn't for the fact that it was trying to kill me. Ambrose peaked his head up to use [Insight] on the creature.
[Wind Wyvern-Modred’s Avatar Level 100]
Not a dragon, then. Ambrose felt his lips tug downward in disappointment. This was the final avatar. He didn't get much more information than that. Likely due to the fact that this thing was level one hundred.
Wind buffeted the area with each flap of the wyverns' mighty wings. He could feel that beam of destruction building up again. Perhaps that was his wisdom stat at work. The fear and doubt effect of his skill was doing nothing. Which meant his [Infernal Sanctuary] skill would likely be useless
Noelle urged him to manifest her, but he didn't think it was the best idea. The winds would probably knock her clear off the mountain.
He was confident his [Infernal Aegis] would hold up to the beam attack, and he couldn't sit behind this rock forever. Gripping his axe tighter, Ambrose moved. Just as the wyvern let loose its deadly beam, maw and head vibrating from the power it unleashed.
Ambrose ran toward it, hefted his axe, infused it, and cut through the beam, splitting the destructive force down the middle. The crackle of its power filled the air as the beam split around the axe and crashed into the ground behind him.
Ambrose kept pushing against the beam, gritting his teeth before jerking to the side, the beam snapping back together and cutting across him like a deadly sword. His shield of abyssal fire pulsed, absorbing some of the damage and adding power to his core.
Ambrose ran forward and leaped, grabbing onto one of the wyverns scales and pulling himself on top of the creature. Then, he activated Avalons Key and teleported them to the lava beneath the island.
The wyvern roared, and a pulse of red, purple, and violet energy washed out from it in a wave, turning the slowly sloshing lava into a massive floor of shining black obsidian.
They fell onto it with a mighty crash, the sound echoing throughout the cavern
Guess it was too much to hope for the same trick working twice. Ambrose tightened his legs and kept hold as the wyvern thrashed.
Ambrose brought his axe up, intending on hacking the lizard to pieces, but a mighty gust of sudden wind collided into him, flinging him off the wyverns back and crashing into the obsidian below.
His armor clanged and scraped, and he dropped his axe, but he rolled up just in time to be hit by the wyvern’s destructive beam. Luckily, his shield held, but it felt like a near thing. The beam washed over him in an attempt to disintegrate him into dust. The abyssal fire of his shield repelled it.
Ambrose moved out of the beam's path, rushing towards the wyvern. It cut off its beam and snapped its head towards him in an attempt to eat him. Ambrose leaped, crashing into its neck and pulling himself up again.
The creature roared and flapped its wings, sending out gusts strong enough to flip cars. It launched itself into the air, and Ambrose let himself be flung up. He used [Recall], and his axe blazed with power as it flew towards him. It slapped into his palm as Ambrose began to fall.
He tapped [Infernal Smite] as he came down like a falling comet and sliced through the wyverns flapping wing. Blood fountained, raining onto the black obsidian below.
The wyvern roared its anguish, a beam lashing from its maw as it fell to the ground.
Ambrose allowed himself to crash into the black stone, his shield absorbing most of the impact and preventing any serious damage.
The wyvern turned, and wing or not, it was fast. It struck out with a claw that Ambrose ducked under. At the same time, he manifested Noelle, who ran forward as soon as she was formed, blasting out a claw of lighting that cut into the creatures scales. Mordred’s final avatar howled in anguish as Ambrose flung his infused axe after tapping his smite skill.
The blazing axe lodged itself into the wyvern's jaw, blood gushing from it. Ambrose had run forward as soon as he had thrown the axe. Noelle raked her claws at the wyverns other wing as Ambrose recalled his axe and slammed it down on the wyverns neck.
Its scales simply could not stop him. Ambrose decapitated the creature in that single swipe, a torrent of blood gushing from its neck stump.

That's the last one. Now I can finish this, Mordred.
